  1. Yeah, but by most accounts his live performances are less than stellar at best, so where does that leave us? Paying for a name. No thanks, I'd rather just listen to the records. Don't get me wrong - I understand why some people would want to catch this tour. It looks great on paper. I also hate the thought of missing Wilco, but I'll just have to enjoy Solid Sound even more to compensate.
  2. Oh, I totally agree with you there. Everyone has a right to privacy, and I'm sure being so recognizable must be a drag sometimes.
  3. I didn't say he owed anyone anything other than basic human decency. Avoiding his fans is one thing (I guess all that love & adoration could get old?), but treating the people he works/travels with with such arrogance is another. I don't care if you're a famous billionaire or a janitor, it's not hard to treat people decently. I've seen it done.
  4. I almost understand that, but surely if the sight and smells of people offend him to that degree he should just stay home? Maybe travelling the world with a large crew of people isn't the best choice for him. I mean honestly, he hasn't put out anything decent in decades (at least in my opinion) and his voice is apparently shot. People are pretty much going to see him because of what he once was. As to his Streisand diva bullshit, is it really necessary for him to treat the people he's on tour with like that? Are the guys in Wilco going to have to avoid his gaze? I would hope they wouldn't put
  5. I believe it. I was local crew at the one Dylan show I've seen (I only did it with the hope of seeing a personal hero up close). Every where he went backstage he was surrounded by a few heavies who shooed people out of the way. He wore a black hoodie with the hood up and dark sunglasses. He seemed kinda lost and confused. Seeing all this (and the trainwreck show) was a huge let down, and it honestly took me a long time before I could listen to him again.
  6. Ha! That was my plan too. I'd like to think Jeff didn't really say that about MMJ - it sounds really catty. I like them a lot. Damn. Oh well.
  7. Yup. Unless I get VERY good seats in the per-sale, I'm out. That's just too much money to see short sets from the two bands I actually want to see.
  8. I agree, the Dylan I saw 23 years ago would have needed a small ladder to rise to the level of "good". I hope he redeems himself this time.
  9. Thanks for the info, Bosco (and sorry to have maligned your home town ) I'm leaning toward Mansfield, partly because I think there may be less likelihood of an early curfew. Could be wrong, though.
  10. I'm torn between Bridgeport, CT and Mansfield, MA. About equidistant for us. I've never been to the venue in Bridgeprt, but the town itself is awful. Really awful. The venue in Mansfield is nice, but the parking lot is a nightmare. It can take over an hour to get out after a show. Again , hopefully the ticket prices will be reasonable.
  11. Me too. It's one of only a few Wilco tunes I've never liked.
  12. I have mixed feelings about this one. As great as this lineup sounds, I'd hate to see Wilco or MMJ have to play an abbreviated festival set. Also, I saw Dylan back around '90 and it was the single worst show I've ever attended. Rambling, incoherent mess. As a huge fan, it was a major dissapointment. Maybe that show was an anomaly, but it scared me off paying to see him again. Having said all that, I'd really hate to miss Wilco or MMJ. A short set is better than nothing. The ticket price will decide for me.
  13. Religion/church shouldn't enter the equation. No one is demanding the right to be married in a church. They just want the same basic rights as everyone else: that their marriage be recognized as legal and valid. People need to remember that religion does not own marriage. Or morality. As I stated in a previous post, every single anti-gay marriage excuse i've heard is based on religion. The people using this defense are ignorant bigots, pure and simple.
  14. Pretty much everything. The man's an idiot. Thinks the effing tide coming in/out proves the existence of god. As to gay marriage, what kind of miserable, joyless prick could oppose it? Why are rednecks so threatened by it? I've yet to hear a reason that doesn't start with: "...But...the bible!" Due to the favored status religion receives, too many people in this country think that their belief in superstitious nonsense should take precedence over the basic human rights of others. Possibly the most annoying people? Fat old politicians and radio talk hosts on their second or third wives talki
  15. Cool! Glad it worked out for you. See you there!
  16. For me, it's the fact that for decades he cultivated a sort of man of the people vibe. If artists are greedy from the get-go, I just avoid them. Petty completely betrayed his own ethos. Neil Young is guilty of the same thing. Prices for his acoustic shows (with minimal production/crew costs) are just ridiculous. So as much as I love the music, they'll never get another penny from me. Integrity is a huge factor in my love for Wilco. They do lots of benefit/charity work, long and varied shows, and other than S. Sound I don't think i've ever paid more than $40 for a ticket. Hell, 3 days at Solid
  17. I totally agree, and I'm sure no one wants to hear more than a couple covers. I think people are just throwing out ideas hoping the band picks one or two from the hat.
  18. I love the music, but I've lost a lot of respect for Petty over the past few years. In the "Conversations" book and The Last DJ album he made a big deal about ticket prices, VIP sections, etc, even calling bands like the Eagles (who I loathe) "greed heads". A few years later his ticket prices skyrocket and his shows feature expensive VIP circles. When Money Becomes King indeed...
  19. Surprised no one has mentioned Trevor Bolder. Listen to Bowie's Live: Santa Monica '72. Also, "Random" John Poole. Worked with The Cardiacs, and now with The Wildhearts. Unbelievably gifted.
  20. This could go in the guitar thread too, but I think the bass wins out in this clip:
  21. Emitt Rhodes - Take You Far Away James Gang - Take A Look Around The Velvet Underground - Head Held High or Foggy Notion Tom Petty - Even The Losers I'd love to hear their take on any of these.
  22. Technically proficient he may be, but I've always considered Clapton overrated, too sterile and, worse, boring. His songs, other than a couple of Cream tunes, have always been uninspired generic faux blues. To be honest though, I've always loathed the whole white boy blues hero thing. It's all just so...similar. Not that the originals (R. Johnson, Son House, C. Patton, etc) deviated much from the form, but at least it was authentic. I'll take that any day. This is all just my opinion, btw. Not trying to piss anyone off. To each their own, y'know?
  23. The new album's getting better with each listen. As for my favorite, it'd be a tough choice between Hunky Dory and The Man Who Sold The World (can't believe no one else has mentioned that one!). Ziggy's up there too. And yes, anthonyc007, I also love the stuff on The Life Aquatic.
