  1. Ditto to all that. I've never made it to Chicago for a Wilco show or one of the Tweedy solo benefit shows, which I very much want to do, but being in MA and able to easily drive to all three SS's has not been a bad tradeoff.
  2. A stream of the Elvis Costello and Roots show from Brooklyn Bowl the other night, here: http://www.wfuv.org/audio/archives/fuv-live/elvis-costello-and-roots-live-brooklyn-bowl-2013
  3. Is this what you're referring to, the Radiolab tour coming to Boston? I didn't see On Fillmore at SS, don't know much about this, but Glenn being my favorite drummer I'll show up. http://www.radiolab.org/live/ Our new live tour is coming to a city near you this fall!Cataclysmic destruction. Surprising survival. In this new live stage performance, Radiolab turns its gaze to the topic of endings, both blazingly fast and agonizingly slow. With their signature blend of storytelling, science, and music, hosts Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich romp through hundreds of millions of years of history
  4. The Dwork essay in the Taper's Compendium was derived from his very long piece in Dupree's Diamond News, they had previously published a big article on this show, the "best GD show ever" or something like that. I still have it in my collection. My SSDD is due to arrive today. My wife going away to her h.s. reunion this weekend, I know what I'll be doing Saturday night.
  5. I've seen some outstanding Furthur shows. I missed them this summer in Boston as I was on vacation (I think the same for last summer too). Would prefer to see them than not, so hope it's only a hiatus and not the end. I love Joe Russo's drumming (would love to see him take Joe Russo's Almost Dead on the road, as a double bill with Bustle!), and John's playing too. I also don't get the "fake Jerry" pejorative, Other than Box, there's nothing I would rather hear Phil sing than John. Also seen many amazing Phil and Friends shows, so hope he takes that on the road and doesn't just do residenc
  6. Nice! All the best with all that. Staying in theme, this past spring I had to have a cardiac catheterization procedure. I was more than a little uptight (turns out to be a very easy procedure) as I entered the procedure room. Between patients one of the techs was playing opera on Pandora on his phone. I *hate*opera, but said something nondescript about having music on. The nurse asked if I wanted to listen to anything in particular, I said Wilco so she set up Wilco station on Pandora and I rocked to Wilco while they noodled around inside my chest. Really helped me get through that!
  7. Listened to the 2-13-70 Dark Star on my drive to work this morning, for like the umpteenth million time in my life. Still blows me away, what a beautiful piece of music.
  8. I have this, it's a great collection in my book. Haven't had it on in a while, but looking at the track list I remember that the Greatest Story simply *rages*! Got my notice that Sunshine Daydream has shipped. Now hammering the UPS tracking site like every 30 minutes
  9. Loved that Tweedy Sunday afternoon set, what a sweet way to wrap up a fantastic weekend. I couldn't say it was my highlight of all SS though, tough for anything to top the all request show, or any of the Wilco sets, even the Friday night in the pouring rain show. I'll just say it was my favorite non-Wilco SS set.
  10. Yes, Jeff Garlin's entire podcast series was recorded in front of a live audience at Largo.
  11. She's much taller and broad across the shoulders than I expected. And she did her entire set barefoot. Then when she came out during theAllmans set for The Weight she was wearing very high heels, she was towering on the stage. She had no problem dancing in those heels.
  12. These words bum me out (in reference to the ACL show): "Note that these will be the last Wilco shows for many months."
  13. The Allmans and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. I've never heard a note of Grace Potter's music (but I've seen a lot of photos of her ).
  14. Oh man, what I wouldn't give for a Tweedy show in *Boston*
  15. I saw that and watched those clips last night. Love watching the Bonds footage, I was there for 2 or 3 of those shows. Wild times in Times Square! I was outside the night the fire department shut the show down for overcrowding, or not having a permit or something like that. What a band they were before Combat Rock era. Don't know if I will shell out the $$ for this box. Haven't seen a price.
  16. From Wilco's Facebook page: "Condolences to the entire Tweedy family on the loss of Jeff's older brother last night. Greg Tweedy 1957-2013, R.I.P."
  17. Jerry's singing was about the emotion in his voice, to me irregardless of the particular condition of the voice. The man could bring me to tears with his ballads. Warren's singing has a similar emotive impact.
  18. Keith was fantastic, the best keys in the Dead, those years he was on the baby grand. '72-74 particularly. I think the band stopped using a real piano and he switched to the electric piano in the late '70's, and combined with his personal life issues, his sound and playing went downhill.
  19. I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority on this, but I always liked Donna's singing. I liked it at the time, I was always willing to admit that part of the appeal was watching her on stage swaying that long hair and imagining what I could do with that ! But I still like her singing listening to the recordings. People complain about her being out of tune and wailing, etc, but I don't see that. And it took me a very long time to get used to Brent's singing (and playing) after Keith and Donna were gone.
  20. It was easy. I had been listening/seeing the Dead since '73, by '81 I was simply bored with what they were doing (I couldn't stand to listen to another mid-tempo NFA), perhaps in contrast to all the other music that was happening in my life from '77 on. I started listening to the Heads and Elvis and Clash and Ramones and Television (the list is endless) around '77-'78, moved to Boston in '79, and the music scene was so happening in Boston those years, until the mid to late '80's. I distinctly remember that I could not believe that my friends were still going to Dead shows! Then I went to P
