Hood selects his most influential "Americana" songs, with a nice write up of each tune, and a Spotify playlist. Good reading and listening. Includes Son Volt, Lucinda, Isbell and Wilco. Also, really nice call on R.E.M. and Don't Go Back to Rockville. http://www.thebluegrasssituation.com/read/mixtape-patterson-hoods-americana-101

American Band is far and away my best album of the year. Such a strong statement album, very powerful and moving tunes. I think it's great from start to finish. Also on my list, only: Schmilco Let Me Get By-deluxe box-Tedeschi Trucks Band Not a great year for me in terms of new releases, I didn't listen to much. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
If anyone's interested in something less than the full LA bundle, I bought the last night of LA as soon as they were available. Really great show. Chose that one of the 3 based on reading the reports for each show in the After the Show section. I haven't heard the others (were reports of "weird" audiences the first 2 nights), but you won't go wrong with this one. Also got the 9-2 Seattle show. Another good one. Haven't heard the 9-3 show.

Awesome, I was there. Thanks for the heads up.

For me, nothing compares to any of the first five I.R.S. releases. Not to say I don't like Out of Time, but..

Can't have too much '73 Dead. My single favorite GD year. This is an excellent show. I'm probably not going to do the subscription again this year, but I will be hot to get this one when it gets announced for sale.

Mr. Tinnitus Photography didn't make it, but Rich Gastwirt did, and he has a nice photo album from the show up on FB.

Thanks for the write up. Definitely looking forward to their return to Boston this winter. Interesting about the sound. Last time I saw them, at Columbia Theater in Providence, we were down pretty close just behind the open pit area and my buddy and I noticed the sound was pretty bad. I chalked it up to being too close, but perhaps not. I don't remember that being an issue at previous shows. Hey, not every band can have a Stan at the controls!

Really good show. Glad I forced myself to go on a weeknight. I couldn't tell you a single song he did. I hardly ever listen to MMJ or him on my own, but always go see them live and am always blown away by MMJ. Definitely not the intensity of a Jacket show, but that would be obvious from the new album. Didn't really care for the opening band from my listening to them earlier in the day, but they were great backing him. Would definitely encourage you to go.

I would like to. I still have a DVD player, no Blu-Ray, so I have to figure out how much of this won't be useable for me.
-
He played last night, I didn't go. Just tonight for me. You?
-
I read about it earlier in the week and got it set up on the DVR. Episode 2 ran last night. Haven't seen either yet. Betty Cantor-Jackson is episode 8.

That should be great, let us know. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

According to the venue, Twin Limb at 9:00 and Jim James at 10:15. Maybe I misunderstood your post, are you saying that Twin Limb is backing James as well as playing their own set?
-
I see Twin Limb on the bill, I assumed they were the opener. I didn't know they were the band with him. Thanks.
-
Seeing him tomorrow night. No idea what to expect. Does anyone know what this tour is? I assume he's got a band? I searched but couldn't find any info.
-
There are no codes is my understanding. I'm pretty sure Wilco posted that on FB or tweeted that.

Bands you saw early on who became big?
worldrecordplayer replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
Which reminds me, we saw R.E.M. at the Harvard gym. Must have been soon after Murmur came out, maybe Reckoning. The thing about that show is Husker Du opened, at that point I didn't know them and we hung outside and got ready for R.E.M. Just a few months later I was listening to Husker Du and was kicking myself. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
3 shows announced. Does anyone think additional shows will be added? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Glad I got to see him a couple of times over the last several years: with Hot Tuna in Boston, and as part of that fantastic TTB Mad Dogs and Englishmen set at Lockn'. Pulled out my Concert for Bangladesh dvd yesterday and watched the Leon segment. Great as it always was.
