I wasn't that thrilled with No Line On The Horizon (weak songwriting? uninspired-sounding to my ears?) and was kinda intrigued with the potential of Songs Of Ascent or at least the possibility of hearing the sessions they did with Rick Rubin. I don't know if the Rick Rubin stuff was going to make it to Songs Of Ascent or not. I haven't searched for bootlegs of the Rubin sessions, anybody know if they are out there? Just found this from Paste mag in 2010. Sounds like the rock album he mentions is probably the Rubin sessions that I want to hear. Bono told Fricke the following when asked ab

Yeah, I have posted over there a few times since the tour started. I'd never checked it out before, though. Hope I didn't say anything that pissed you off...

...18 years old in 1967. Oh, the shows I would've seen...

Lots of hiking to be done around the venue (its in a park). Don't get wasted on acid and try to climb on the rocks, though! (Sadly, someone actually died doing that at a Dead show some years back, apparently). Its lots of stairs to get up to the venue from the main parking lots, people get winded at that altitude. Its a beautiful spot, almost everyone loves it there. I've been four times and the worst weather I've encountered was a windy night for Wilco in 2012 and it made the "ghost" lights sway in the breeze in a really cool way. But you can get crazy rain and lightning and it can change

Elaborate tailgating before the show in the parking lot is the norm. Although for Steely Dan, it might be a lot of chardonnay and brie instead of Sierra Nevada and kind veggie burritos.

I read that this morning and started pounding the desk with my fist in frustration (that I missed it) AND excitement (that they did it at last). And they did it one show after the show I saw! Aaarrrgggghhhh!!!! My two favorite Mick Taylor songs in addition to Rambler. They should have been doing this all along, goddammit! vids embedded in this thread http://www.iorr.org/talk/read.php?1,1841531,page=19 Looks like I'll be going to see them again if they do another US leg in the fall....

I was at the Anaheim show last night. I'm no fan of Dave Grohl's own bands, but I love his energy and attitude, especially when he's playing with Tom Petty or Rush or The Stones or Page and Plant. He's become a torchbearer for classic rock and I love that. He was on fire last night and Bitch was a definite highlight of the night. But the Stones by themselves are on fire, too. The pay per view from Brooklyn and the show last night showed me a band that is playing better than they have at the shows I was at all through the 90s and one that is still living up to their reputation as one of t

One of the reasons I love hearing talented bands play covers is that it gives me a chance to experience some great songs from the past that I would never get to hear played well live otherwise. Like if they did a Badfinger song. How many people still around ever got to hear Badfinger play live? It'd be a treat to hear a band as good as Wilco pull that off. It keeps the good music from the past alive and it also gives a glimpse into a band's influences. I wish I were going to Solid Sound to see this request show, it should be awesome. I also understand those who'd prefer Wilco originals/rari

Went to see Rock Show last night in the theater. It was great to see and sounded pretty good. The most striking thing to me (not having listened to Wings Over America in many years nor ever having seen the film) was how great a singer McCartney was at that stage of his career. I especially loved the gravelly, soulful roughness in his voice that he could seemingly pull out at will and then immediately slide back into sweet smoothness. Maybe it was the effects of being on tour or maybe not, because it wasn't like his voice was hoarse the whole time. It was the perfect amount of what he worked so

I had a sealed, grey vinyl copy of the Touch of Grey single for years. I was keeping it sealed so it'd be worth more as a collector's item. That is, until my curious step son at age 8 tore off the plastic wrap! Its still never been played and at least I finally got to see the fold out poster inside!

I don't think I'm gonna bite on this one. How much May '77 do I really need in addition to all the shows that I already have on tape? Its not 5-8, or 5-9 and they've already put out 5-19 and 5-22 on Dicks's Picks 29 and 3, respectively. I just get a weird disturbing feeling from Lemeiux's videos. I hate that part when he says "speaking as a Deadhead and your friend, I encourage you to pick this up because it will sell out". He just seems to be the corporate voice of Rhino, trying to create a sense of urgency to get people to buy. I subscribed to Dave's Picks this year and I'm not really that

Yeah! This would be my pick, too. If they played this kinda rock all night long, I'd be in heaven. Contender for the Stonsiest Wilco recording. Glad and Sorry - The Faces (played by Golden Smog, of course) would be another wishlist song of mine.

I'm usually pretty tolerant of the Dead's vocals, but there are some brutal moments (Mason's Children, ouch!) on the St. Louis show, which is all I got to check out so far. I agree the guitar on Black Peter is fantastic.

I'm going to see the 1976 concert film Rock Show in a theater on May 16, I'm really looking forward to it. I haven't seen it in years and that was on VHS tape, I do believe! http://www.rockshowonscreen.com/

Its scheduled to arrive tomorrow according to tracking info. In the meantime, I revisited this collection of music http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/steel-cut-oats-10-back-to-the-cap-port-chester-70/ and was pretty impressed. I usually avoid AUD recordings altogether, I just don't like hearing the room and the audience and the distance between mics and stage, for me it really gets in the way of the music. But for these shows, because there are not SBDs apparently, I'l make an exception. Check out the Not Fade Away>Easy Wind from late show June 24, 1970. That is one smoking NFA

Mine hasn't even arrived yet and I subscribed for the year

Looks like I'm gonna have to get Tempest. Visons and Willie McTell look like the setlist highlights to me. I also did Things Have Changed and Lovesick. Glad to hear about the band and his singing voice, thanks for the report!! -

Rich is always that way. He just doesn't smile. It doesn't mean he's bummed out or angry, its just his introverted personality. I've met him and he's a real even-tempered calm guy, but friendly enough, if kinda shy. I'd like it if he rocked out a little bit on stage and was more expressive, but it just ain't gonna happen. Chris' personality, obviously, is suited for the frontman role and Rich is the reserved riff-meister, the musical genius behind most of their songs. Them being so different is probably part of why they have had such a volatile history. Glad you enjoyed the show. They are f -
Fleetwood Mac-Mick Fleetwood does not play alone
Shug replied to worldrecordplayer's topic in Someone Else's Song
U2 does the same shit, they have the guitar tech Dallas Schoo playing lots of rhythm parts underneath the stage in his little guitar tech cave. I don't like it, but I'd prefer not to look behind the curtain, as shallow as that may seem. -
The Mother Hips/Wilco connection goes back to the HORDE festival in 1995 when the Hips were touring as a side stage band. They also opened a New Year's Eve Wilco show at the Fillmore in SF. A couple years ago, Tim started playing this song for Jay Bennet and its been in the Hips' encores consistently since then and it always makes for a poignant reflective end to the show. Thought some of you might like to hear it if you didn't know about it.

...and 100 Years From Now, Wilco made their version waaayyyyy Stones-y

http://youtu.be/2sF0KQ4CiW8 I didn't know about this cover until a friend shared it with me last week. I need to do more research on old Wilco outtakes and stuff. Nice little gem!
