I think some of the negativity about the new record has to do with how mellow it is. I like it but it might be my least favorite of their four releases. I was around a few people from the band earlier this year and ELO was referenced as an influence on the record. Not exactly a band that ripped through their songs like the NP can. The comment made sense when I heard some of the new songs. As far as Neko's voice goes, it is amazing. Go see her live and just sit back and listen. Her voice is simply awe inspiring.

I would start with Sister and Daydream Nation. These were the two records where the band really honed their sound. They were able to incorporate the noisier elements of their earlier records into more structured songs. If you like those two, move forward to Goo and Dirty and buy everything else. EDIT: I would throw EVOL in with Sister and DN as well for the reasons stated above.

I guess they have a mutual appreciation society. I saw AB in New York on Monday and they were saying that they spent all of Sunday in their hotel watching Harry Potter.

I've been monitoring Brooklyn Vegan in hopes someone in the comments knows what's going on. Spoon Thread It's amazing that the River to River website has no phone number to contact in case of something like this. I am hoping they have the good sense to postpone the show and maybe the band can play tomorrow night. They are on Letterman tonight. It won't be the same but it's better than nothing.

I've been looking forward to this show since it was announced. However, we are getting nasty thunderstorms and it is pouring in NYC right now. I don't think it's going to happen tonight.

I'd say it's more in the vein of Feels in that it's more structured and conventional than some of their other records like Danse Manatee or Here Comes The Indian. I'm really liking the new one a lot. One of the things that I love about the band is the fact that they are so multi-faceted. There's so much different material to enjoy as they move from record to record that it keeps their stuff very fresh for me. There's something to fit whatever mood I happen to be in.

I don't know. Different strokes for different folks as Arnold and Willis would have said. JCN just works very well as a record for me. It reminds me of Whiskeytown and the playing is great. Cold Roses has some great songs on it but I find myself not liking all the songs.

As well it should have because, IMHO, it's the best thing he has released since Heartbreaker. I like RA's work and I have been a fan since the Whiskeytown days. I haven't heard the new record but I will check it out. Glad to hear that he is clean and sober since the article in the NY Times made it sound like he was on his way out if he hadn't cleaned up.

If we want to go in the negative direction, Slim Dunlap for Bob Stinson would be one. The Mats were still good but they weren't the same band. This would be another negative one for me. I love Rollins but, with the exception of Damaged (which had pre-Henry songs recorded with him), they were never as good after he joined the band.

I'll take Anodyne over both and Trace over AM. One last thing: It's D. Boon. I LOVE Minutemen and I just wanted to point that out. Jeff writing a song in tribute to the man is just another reason I have so much respect for him.

Anyone know what the set times for tonight are? EDIT: Just spoke to someone at the club and he said Wilco will be going on at 9 PM.

A couple of people have mentioned it but I want to throw another recommendation for Panda Bear's Person Pitch record. It is certainly the 2007 record that I have played the most and I keep finding new things in those songs. Everyone should check it out.

"Heroin" isn't the second track on the record. "I'm Waiting For The Man" is the second song on The Velvet Underground and Nico. That song is a perfect example of a great and important second song on a record. It just comes thundering along after Sunday Morning starts things in a quiet mood.

A question about getting Hammerstein tix the day of

Keep checking Ticketmaster's site in the days leading up to the show. They usually release more tickets for sold out events close to the day of the show. If you stay at it, you might get lucky and not have to pay a ridiculous amount of money for the ticket. -
SBS Preorders: Put your MusicToday bitching here!
Jimbo Jones replied to lost highway's topic in Just A Fan
What a bunch of garbage. What was the point of offering a preorder if the company can't get them out to people in time for release? There's certainly not a concern about the record leaking before the release date. Next time I won't bother with any of this. I will wait for the vinyl to come out and just buy it at my local record shop. -
What is going on here? I got an email over the weekend that my vinyl had shipped but it hasn't arrived yet. I have to go out of town for the weekend so I am hoping to give it at least one spin tonight. Did you guys order yours from Music Today?

I think it is an essential Neil Young record. The Ditch Trilogy is my favorite period of his career. Like others have said, it can be pretty easily found on vinyl and has never been given an official release on CD. I bought my copy 3 or 4 years ago and only paid 5 or 10 dollars for a clean copy.

10/26/95 at Irving Plaza in NYC. They played a bunch of songs that ended up on Being There. We got a couple of UT songs, Can't Keep from Talking, and even John got to sing It's Just That Simple. I remember them closing with Misunderstood and they switched up instruments. Jeff was playing drums and the version was very, very intense. Here's the setlist: 1. I Got You (At The End Of The Century) 2. I Must Be High 3. Box Full Of Letters 4. Shouldn't Be Ashamed 5. Say You Miss Me 6. That's Not The Issue 7. Forget The Flowers 8. Pick Up The Change 9. New Madrid 10. It's Ju

He will be playing What Sin Replaces Love? on the episode that airs tonight at 11 on IFC. I have only met Ryan Adams once and it was nine years ago. He was very nice and humble. I have heard that he is a nightmare from a guy I know who does sound for bands and has worked with him. I am sure the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

If you thought Hammerstein sold out fast, try to imagine how fast Warsaw tickets would go. Prospect Park makes a lot of sense. Hopefully, it will happen.
-
I really hope so because I got shut out on tickets to this show. The demand must have been insane because of the fact that they haven't played here in 2 1/2 years.

Side With The Seeds is amazing.

When you open it, switch to classic view. There will be a tab for Quicktime in that. Follow the instructions from there and you should be set.

Just started. Either Way sounded amazing. I can't wait to hear the rest of the record.

Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Evan Sank

Here I come with hat in hand. Can someone help me out so I can give this a listen?
