Yeah, I also have a ticket for that Milwaukee show. We'll see how things shake out. I missed the announcement this morning but do we think these are "regular" Wilco shows or might they do something special like that residency several years ago where they played every song from every album sequentially over several nights? Trying to figure out if I should see as many of these as possible or pick a couple and aim for those.- 216 replies

I love this. It reminds me of some of Punch Brothers' covers. Such as:

Wilco sighting! Pat Sansone sat in on a couple of songs with the Jayhawks at House of Blues. I took a couple of terrible photos over tall people's heads, but it would take an industrial strength Instagram filter to make them respectable. Weirdly, the HOB Chicago is located in the Marina City complex (site of the towers on the YHF cover), making it somewhat of a Wilcopalooza. Gary was also reminiscing about a Chicago gig at Lounge Ax where they wore pajamas, and dedicated a song "to Sue" right after mentioning it. What a great show it was. The band was clearly having a ball playing togeth

Yeah, I agree, a clear, pitch-perfect, unadorned, melisma- and vibrato-free voice that's great for bluegrass tunes. He's been doing harmonies for a long time with Punch Brothers, so it's nice to hear him step out and take the lead on vocals. And they are not too shabby with the guitars either.

Yeah! I just listened to their new album today for the first time. Sounds lovely.

I didn't know much about him going into the show, but dude is hilarious. Equal parts profound and profane. He did 2 sets with a 15 minute break, and wrapped up around 11:30PM. Some of his songwriting is so witty and weird. Funny banter too. Todd was wearing an Elizabeth Cook t-shirt and said she "called in homesick" and needed to spend some time off the road. The opener was Jesse Aycock. Very high voice, a little strange, but he's a terrific guitar player, and they did a couple of songs together for an encore, which were excellent. It's weird that he's booked at OTSoF tomorrow also.

Thanks for the report, ablair, and glad your first Tweedy show met your expectations. Welcome to many future mind-blowing performances!

Was out at lunch when the ticket sales opened for Milwaukee and the floor seats weren't too great when I got back. So, I took first row balcony. Still hoping for shows in Chicago in December!!!

You know, I totally missed it in my reportage from the Burlington show, but we had "Pigeons" too (also a favorite of mine from the new release). That is a really nice solo setlist right there (Reservations! New Madrid! Misunderstood!) -
Got in at about 7 min after 10 and shut out of presale. Will have to try again friday and/or hope for Chicago show announcements.

That show they did at Shelburne Museum is my favorite show of all time - by anyone, anywhere, ever! Still have the setlist somewhere. I still listen to the recording of that show too. -

I didn't take notes, so we'll wait for the official setlist posting on this one, but the only really big surprise last night was "Secret of the Sea" during the solo portion and a surprisingly rocking encore that included "Please Don't Let Me Be So Understood" (first time I've heard that live and it sounded awesome) and "Only the Lord Knows" (saw at Newport, but with Mavis on vocals). We were right up front and center, though there were a couple rows of folding chairs in front of us. The crowd was pretty sparse and somewhat awkwardly quiet, especially through the Tweedy band set. I believe Hospitality is the opener tonight. -
Oh, man, I may be road tripping up to Wisconsin again for this. Seriously though, Wilco has not played a full show in Chicago since 2011(!) when they played 5 nights at different venues ranging from the Civic Opera House to Lincoln Hall (I was at the Vic show). They did play the ballpark in Geneva, IL in July, 2012 and then a shortish set at the Americanarama show last summer. Just saying, it is TOO LONG not to play the home town for a proper gig. And the Tweedy band has only played at that Sound Opinions show for a small audience, since Taste of Chicago was cancelled. Thank god Jeff does
