  1. Hey UC2P, was that show a double bill with The Ramones? Because I was supposed to go to that one but for some reason didn't make it. It may have been in 1988 though... I saw Soundgarden play Chicago their first time. It was with Mudhoney and Bullet Lavolta(?), at Cabaret Metro. I talked my buddies into going to see these bands we had never heard of. Outside of Mudhoney being good, we were not impressed. In fact, the word soundgarden became an inside joke among us when discussing something unappealing or not good. I saw them again a few years later opening for Neil Young and remained unimpres
  2. 1989 was a big live music year for me. I was running around with the Grateful Dead and when I wasn't doing that, I was going to see punk and grunge shows at Cabaret Metro and Lounge Ax. In between all that, I was working on my undergrad degree and working. Looking at all the ticket stubs from that year, I'm not sure how I afforded it or found the time/energy. Ah, to be young again! 1989 was a very good year...
  3. The story of Danny Kirwin's rise and fall is something else.
  4. So, Ive always hated Fleetwood Mac because of their mid 70s stuff. So imagine my surprise when I hear an interesting tune on the oldies radio station and it turns out to be "Bare Trees" from the album of the same name, circa 1972. After having listened to the album now multiple times, I've changed my tune a bit on FM. If you haven't heard this album, you should, soon.
  5. Finally got around to watching "Long Strange Trip". Some of that footage was freaking amazing! I have the second half lined up for tonight.
  6. "Little Boy" by L. Ferlinghetti. It's his autobiography. Good stuff, I love his writing style.

    ^^Way too late, they've been digested^^
  8. That missed call was a whole buncha horse hockey. And yeah, me and heights don't really get along so well sometimes so the Arch wasn't my favorite.
  9. I've only been to St Louie once. Enjoyed the City Museum a lot. Did the Arch too but I think its not worthy of a repeat. I'm hoping the Blues take the Cup but Boston is looking pretty damn good.
  10. I was at 7-15-89 as well. I'm sure I mentioned this before but we slept in a corn field the night before the show and was woken up in the early morning by a local cop who told us to scram before an angry farmer arrived with his shotgun. Cops and security were searching cars at the gate making sure only people with tickets were allowed on the lot. IIRC a beautiful tapestry backdrop across and behind the stage. I do recall Smokestack Lightening seeming to come out of nowhere but its been 30 years since I heard the show. Deer Creek reminded me a lot of Poplar Creek which I sorely miss...

Yesterday, we had a nice migration of Northern Orioles and Ruby breasted Grosbeaks come thru. Needless to say, we were thrilled!

Today, I'm amazed by the local streams and rivers completely overrunning their banks. We got ourselves an ol' fashioned flood goin' on. Water's RISIN'!
  15. Ian Gillan surely is a contender
  16. ^You caaaant have it!^ Because I spent it on delicious beeeer!
  17. Van Morrison was, unsurprisingly, very impressive. Really tight band of great musicians, Van's voice was in top form (he can still belt it out) and a wide variety of his tunes from throughout his career. The highlight for me was "Ballerina" from Astral Weeks. It was great to share time and space in a beautiful room like the Chicago Theatre with a master of his craft, really glad I went. Oh yeah, after we walked in, I got in line for a beer and found $40 bucks.
  18. ^^We did a tour of that campus two yrs ago, beautiful place^^
  19. Four episodes in to Sharp Objects.
  20. Picked up Bob Dylan's two disc set "Live 1964" at the library the other day for a buck. Its fun to hear Bob so damn young, giggling and cocksure and having himself a great ol' time up there on stage. Pretty sure I've heard boots of this show before but not in the pristine condition this recording is in.
  21. Yeah, the book is now covering the 1980s, when I saw HT a bunch of times, and I'm considering putting it down. Jorma, not surprisingly, is quite the fiend when it comes to various awful substances. Frankly, he kinda comes off like a real loser. Constantly abused by his wife, etc.
  22. "Been So Long: My Life and Music" by Jorma Koukonen. It's ok, not a real deep dive into the heyday of Jefferson Airplane which was my primary interest...
