  1. Thanks. It's a very special album to me based on how miserable I was when I discovered it and how it made me happy!
  2. John Hiatt Slow Turning Perfectly Good Guitar Everybody Went Low Damn This Town Memphis in the Meantime
  3. Man this was hard Warren Zevon-Warren Zevon The Who-Who's Next Van Morrison-Moondance Ian Dury-New Boots and Panties The Clash-London Calling If someone were to argue with me that these are not the five greatest albums of all time I would concede that they were correct. But they are my favorites.

  12. Wow, some great musical taste on display here. Some great stuff to search out too. Let me try a couple Lyle Lovett Give Back My Heart She's Already Made Up Her Mind Since the Last Time God Will If I Had a Boat Elvis Costello Riot Act Beyond Belief My Mood Swings Radio Radio Alison
  13. I opined on another thread somewhere that musicians, much like baseball players, peak in their mid to late 20s. It's not universal, of course, but it's a solid rule of thumb. I don't have any to add to the list, but I think some artists, particularly those whose careers get a late start or who don't have a lot of success early (and don't get rich and complacent), tend to continue to produce good music longer than those who have a lot of early success. John Hiatt versus Paul McCartney, for instance.
  14. My wife asked me why I was so impressed by Russ Kunkel. I told her he played on "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" and she understood! It was the best, most relaxed performance from Lyle that I have seen. Highly recommended.
  15. Saw Lyle Lovett last night, a thoroughly entertaining show. It was my third time to see him, second time with the Large Band. This was a pretty long show, almost 2 1/2 hours and he squeezed in almost every song you would expect, plus a few surprises. I had never seen him do God Will, Church or North Dakota before. Church was epic. My Baby Don't Tolerate and I've Been to Memphis were also highlights. Francine Reed was in the band this time and she is a show-stealer (you ugly too!). It was a strange crowd. The venue was the Lutcher Theater in Orange, Texas and the crowd was mostly old,
  16. First show in a long time for me tomorrow. Lyle Lovett & His Large Band. Will report afterward.
  17. Pete clubbed Abbie Hoffman over the head with his guitar, so it was a great performance!
  18. It's a decent enough list. I don't understand why it has to be limited to bands and not just all artists. Bold pick to take Van Halen in '78. Why is it that the US produces solo artists and England and Australia produce great bands?
  19. The Zevon book was great. You wonder how anybody could still have the slightest ounce of friendship, respect or affection for him but they all still do. The stories of him hoarding grey Calvin Klein T-shirts explains him pretty well. Zoot Horn Rollo's book was great too.
  20. Thanks for all the suggestions. I've got some listening to do. I love English Oceans, although Grand Canyon is not one of my favorites.
  21. Yes, that is a great read. Thanks for the link. There are several great acts mentioned along the thread who are deserving of the hall. Warren Zevon is my personal favorite. He'll never make it and I suspect one of the reasons why is just what Chris Frantz was talking about. He never had a great team. Actually, he probably had numerous great teams behind him but he was so impossible to work with he couldn't keep them.
  22. Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress by the Hollies. I went for years thinking it was Creedence Clearwater Revival.
  23. I actually went out and bought the cd at a store yesterday, something I can't remember doing since maybe Warren Zevon's The Wind more than a decade ago. Enjoying the crap out of it. It doesn't seem like it's full of classics, but it is consistently good. All 13 songs are worth listening to.
  24. Good read, thanks for posting that. I streamed the record on Rhapsody Sunday and loved it. Couldn't find it at the local store, but I am actually going to buy a hard copy cd of this one.
