  1. ^^^ I agree about the editing -- it's spectacular and causes you to watch each show closely. Succession is on my list. Haven't started it yet -- thanks for the recommendation..
  2. The last time I saw The Mountain Goats, John Darnielle came out wearing a suit and was bare-footed -- first time I recall him not wearing shoes on stage. It was weird. On the other hand, Byrne and his whole damn huge marching band were barefoot and it was sublime.
  3. Not to hijack this thread, but what burns me more than the "lazy setlist," is the artist/band with an extensive catalogue that only plays a 75 minute set. For example, I saw Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks in June and was disappointed at how short the show was. 1:45 should be the minimum and two hours doesn't seem like it's asking too much. Reduce the time between the opener and the headliner.
  4. Sharp Objects on HBO. I like it. Has a True Detective vibe to it.
  5. ^^^ Love it! Sonically really different from Crazy Rhythms -- obviously Peter Buck's production accounts for some of that. I can't believe I missed this band back in the 80's. Thanks for the recommendation. What Feelies album should I get next?
  6. ^^ Both. I can't stand Mumford and his sons, but the way NFF went about the big reveal -- no announcement until they actually took the stage that they were the Saturday headliner -- was annoying. I was standing three rows from the stage for Courtney Barnett (who proceeded the Saturday night headliner at the Fort Stage) and stuck around/held my ground hoping that it was going to be Neil or anyone besides Mumford. By the time I started seeing a banjo and upright bass set up (meaning it was going to be Mumford), it was 30 seconds before show time and pretty hard to get the hell out of dodge. I
  7. Yep. Nels sang What Light -- some of it in key. I had a great time. The only disappointments were (1) missing the Autumn Defense's set and (2) the way the "unannounced" headliner on Saturday night was handled. It turned out to be Mumford and Sons -- whom I can't stad (especially the sons). Otherwise, it was a great weekend.
  8. ^^ Warren sat in with Nels and sang a couple of songs. Nels gave a nice little shout out to his "friend and chief enabler, Jeff Tweedy" and sang "What Light." to close his set. As a singer, Nels is an amazing guitar player !
  9. Just got back from NFF and had a blast. Among the highlights were Amanda Shires, JD McPherson, Margo Price (joined by John Prine), Rachel & Vilray, Sturgill Simpson , Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit (joined by David Crosby), Low Cut Connie (amazing), Hiss Golden Messenger, Shakey Graves, Courtney Barnett, Preservation Hall, Jen Cloher (joined by Courtney Barnett), Nels Cline (joined by Warren Haynes), Toots and the Maytalls, Gary Clark, Jr. and Brandi Carlile.
  10. ^^^ Just picked up "The Good Earth." Haven't had an opportunity to listen to it -- plus I can't get the download card to work.
  11. I'm halfway through "Wild, Wild West." I remember the Bhagwan and his community in rural Oregon. A guy I knew who lived down the block from me ditched college and joined him. Never heard from him again.
