  1. I agree about Scythian, but that intro on Dark Matter is too damn good, those plucks. And I miss the xylophone, or whatever it is Dosh is playing.
  2. Never could get into Blur either, maybe I'm not cut out for Brit rock. Deleted it but kept History Song, 80's Life, and Herculean, enjoyed those songs. NP: Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha On second listen and it's sounding great I was obsessed with the Fingerlings 3 version of 'Dark Matter' and I'm a little disappointed that the main riff looped throughout that version is more understated in the studio version where it doesn't kick in til the end. Still a good song but I think I prefer the Fingerlings one, maybe repeated listens will prove me wrong.
  3. Found that really boring, especially considering the members.
  4. I can't stop listening to this. It is soooooo good.
  5. I think all this discussion over what was their best album proves one thing: Pavement rocks!
  6. Sorry, I hate to derail a thread - you might not like Thom Yorke, but I find it hard to believe he is overrated by any means.
  7. I just wish this had been written about Ryan Adams. Forget girlfriends emailing, Ryan would have stabbed that boy in the face.
  8. It's an enjoyable listen, but I have to choose to listen to it rather than having the music keep drawing me back. The songs may have gotten stuck in my head briefly but for some reason just not sticking. This from a guy who registered as "JamesMercer" two and a half years ago, haha the Shins just aren't high up on my musical radar these days and I listen to their Flake Music album the most.
  9. I haven't heard that particular song on this bootleg but there is a version of Wish You Were Here played by Mark Linkous from Sparklehorse, and Thom sang the vocals by phone from his hotel room, so that might be why it doesn't sound like him. Then again, might be a different version.
  10. Chutes was SOOOOO immediate, and I think it still stands up. I dunno, Wincing just doesn't grab me.
  11. The playing of these guys has always stirred the most emotion out of me: J Mascis Isaac Brock Doug Martsch Neil Young Stephen Malkmus
  12. Wincing definitely not as immediate as Chutes but I'll need more listens to really grasp it I think and let lyrics set in. For now, Flake Music still my favorite Shins album
  13. I don't think that's necessarily true, the tracks he mentioned (Crane Wife 3, O Valencia, and Sons and Daughters) are all the tracks that strike me as the most old-school Decemberists songs. Now if he had said he really liked Island/Come and See/The Landlord's Daughter/You'll Not Feel the Drowning, When the War Came, and The Perfect Crime 2, then I think it would be a valid point that he won't enjoy the likes of Castaways or Her Majesty.
  14. Source Tags and Codes has some great songs. It Was There That I Saw You, Another Morning Stoner, How Near How Far, and Relative Ways are such amazing songs. I deleted Worlds Apart from itunes save for 3 songs. I hear bad things about the new one but I haven't listened to it yet.
  15. Well I really had no idea who Mike Patton was before the concert, and the rapping over the power chords and stuff just didn't do it for me. I thought Razhel was really cool tho.
  16. I find it fun, mindless pop. I agree with whoever said it gets the foot tappin'. I think When You Were Young is the best song, but For Reasons Unknown is pretty cool too.
  17. I saw them open for Gnarls...I felt like I was at a Limp Bizkit concert.
  18. Really, really sad. He was a stand up guy, really horrible for his wife and kids. RIP Steve
