I have Joni on mine as well. I consider her one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century. -
That's been known to happen. : lol

That part never made sense to me until after I was married to my ex-wife. That was when I learned that PMS stands for Pitiful Male Suffering. Good grief...

Just like my other conservative friends! I suspect that most conservative politicians are either 1) evolved enough to not be bothered by it, or 2) don't really give a shit one way or the other. Most of the posturing is probably just pandering to the hardcore anti-gay evangelical types within their constituencies. If I were a Republican politician, I would totally be like, "It's an abomination...if it's two dudes. If it's two chicks, that's cool."
-
So...not a fan?
-
I think the opposition to it is, as a general rule, religious based. "It is an abomination, the Bible says so, end of story. God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." It's pretty hard to make a logical argument against it, just as it is hard to argue effectively that one can prove (or disprove, for that matter) the existence of God.

My sentiments exactly (but substitute St. Pete for Orlando in my case). I'm not a fanatic to the point of knowing every song, like I am with Wilco, so I will be pleased to get a similar set.

Well, over time, I suppose that's true. But when he started out, Bob was Neil's hero (at least that's the story Joni Mitchell tells in one of her early live sets), and he sure sang in a high, whiny voice like Bob. No one else sounded anything like Dylan except for Neil in the 60s.

Neil Young is a poor man's Bob Dylan...and Tom Petty is a poor man's Neil Young. That ought to make a few heads explode.

All the Roosevelts are pinkoes.

For anyone who wants to know what it means to be progressive, this would be it. Now if only we could get more conservative folks interested in conservation...

Cool! I will have to seek him out. -
Wow, this thread is out of control: the Plaster Casters, uncle Jerry, a pic of the Hot Rats cover....it's like an MRI of my cerebellum. To chime in on the Dead discussion, I totally understand someone not getting them. My brother was a big Deadhead before me, and I just thought they were kind of boring. Not bad, but not exciting. I remember him turning me on to Europe '72, and just being apathetic about it. Now, it's a top ten pick for me. But I had multiple exposures to their music over a period of time, and one day, something clicked. If I hadn't been in the right frame of mind that day, I

Should this thread be moved to the Tongue-Tied Lightning section? Or does the reference to Moe Tucker make it a Someone Else's Song thread? Hmmmm -
Thanks for the recommendations. I also enjoy Veep, which I really hope doesn't get prematurely canceled. They just announced that they are canceling Enlightened after only two seasons. That does it for me with investing time in new HBO series. First I got burned with Hung, then Luck, now Enlightened. They seem to have a history of shutting down shows that have only one word as their name.

Big fan of Neal Casal's solo stuff, but not a fan of Ryan Adams at all. -
Might as well keep the trend going.... Criteria for this are that they are known for writing and singing most of the songs with which they are associated. Rock stars can be included, if they fit the criteria, of course. Art Garfunkel probably would not qualify (unless you just love all those Art Garfunkel lyrics), Elton John definitely would not. 1) Bob Dylan 2) Bruce Cockburn 3) Phil Ochs 4) Joni Mitchell 5) Warren Zevon 6) Jeff Tweedy 7) Frank Zappa 8) Willie Dixon 9) Paul Simon 10) Neal Casal Edit: also, Lennon/McCartney, Townes Van Zandt, Paul Weller

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Eddie Van Halen. He was top of the heap for a while back there in the 70s...guess he has really soiled his legacy over the years... -
