I obtained Future Games and the lesser-known Heroes Are Hard to Find earlier this year, and really liked them both. The guy was very talented.

This is shocking and saddening. I just listened to Sentimental Lady yesterday. Always liked his contributions to Fleetwood Mac records. http://content.usato.../1#.T9EgCI64K-I

Bill Maher and Rush Limbaugh may both be strident voices of different ends of the political spectrum, but otherwise, comparing them is really like comparing apples and oranges. Bill is a professional standup comic. Rush, as far as I know, has never been in the comedy biz (although much of what he says is unintentionally hilarious). Rush is on radio, which is basically free to all listeners. Bill is on HBO, which means you have to PAY to watch his show. Rush is truly public in his performances...I could easily walk into the local auto shop and be subjected to one of his tirades just because t

You're right, it doesn't matter that a person who is making $40K a year pays 25% while Mitt Romney pays 14% because, after all, it's investment income. Since Mitt's 14% is so much more money. Wow, I really feel sorry for him and all his buddies now. It must really suck to have so much money that your tax bill is bigger than my annual salary. Yes, I should read it again, so I understand your viewpoint. Maybe I'll read it ten more times. While I'm doing that, you might want to google "oligarchy."

Jules, I read every word of that article. Did this part somehow escape you? So what that is saying is that there are four million tax filers who make up the top 3 percent, and you should realize that most of them get plenty of tax breaks. For example, look at the nice low level at which Mitt Romney is taxed. And furthermore, there are 21,000 high-income earners who manage to weasel out of paying federal income taxes at all. Percentage-wise, that is not a large amount, but 21,000 people is a hell of a lot of people. I have been in a few places where 21,000 people were at the same time, and

http://www.spinner.com/2012/05/31/pete-cosey-dead-dies/?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl3%7Csec3_lnk1%26pLid%3D166220 Was not really that familiar with his name, but it turns out he's on a lot of recordings I own ... not only with Miles but also with Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf.

For whoever it was that wrote that BS about how rich people pay all the taxes in this country, while poor people pay nothing, here is a little reality check right out of today's headlines: http://news.yahoo.com/big-paychecks-tiny-tax-burdens-21-000-wealthy-100029578--abc-news-politics.html

Wow. Speechless.

Wow, first time I have heard this arrangement with Jeff singing it in a higher register. Sounds pretty f-ing good!

Love the running commentary in Spanish: "ahora Nels empieza a pasarlo bien"

Yep. Who are these other guys? Whoa, I just refreshed my screen, and Poor Places is already underway...

Love Mazzy Star, this is a nice surprise! Thanks for posting.

Unfortunately, there was a period of time there when it seemed the majority of Americans thought it was fine for us to be the cops of the world (see Operation Desert Storm). I guess they all forgot how most people really feel about cops, because they were rather surprised to find out how many people around the world hate us for that very reason...not, as some on the right have suggested, because they "hate freedom." (An absurd trope if ever there was one.) For better or worse, most Americans have finally come around to the position that maybe we should not be constantly at war with someone o

Well, it sure wasn't all about creating jobs, as he now so guilelessly claims.

Calling people sheeple is uncool, no matter which side of the fence you're on. I almost miss Sparky coming on here and getting me all fired up. I guess it's a dark day in Ron-Paul-land, what with the Mittster officially sewing up the nomination.

Me too. I'm going to campaign for him. Oh wait, that's not what you meant, is it?
-
Yes, it is a snarky nickname for Romney, kind of like Nobama, which I see on the internet in the comments section of every political post. Wow, I was just trying to get a dying thread going again and I ignited a firestorm with that? Oh, and it is based on Willard's fabulous experience gutting companies and making a shit-ton of money...sort of like stealing from the poor and giving to the rich, but not exactly...

Seriously?

You're right, but the electoral math shows what an uphill battle Rob-Me faces. Obama could win only the following states and still win 270-268. Washington Oregon California Nevada New Mexico Minnesota Wisconsin Illinois Michigan Hawaii Virginia D.C. Delaware New Jersey Conn. Rhode Island Mass. Pennsylvania New York Vermont New Hampshire Maine In other words, he could actually lose a bunch of states he won in '08, including Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and Indiana, and still win. The biggest challenge for Obama is getting his base fired up and getting a few new voters to carry the "safe" O

Nah, they don't really believe that he's gay. "Ghey," maybe, but not gay.

Anyone else play with the electoral college map on realclearpolitics.com? Obama could lose NH, FL, OH, IN and CO, and still pull out a squeaker if he holds on to VA & NC. Or if he holds onto FL and loses VA & NC. Very hard to see how Romney wins enough electoral votes, unless something drastic breaks his way, even with unemployment still high. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/obama_vs_romney_create_your_own_electoral_college_map.html

They are opening for Wilco later on this year.

The Capitol Theatre doesn't have much history online, at least not in a lazy Google search. Fortunately, some enterprising individual has already posted several Youtube videos from the show, enabling those of us who were there to enjoy again seeing Al - who is looking a lot like Eric Idle these days - running casually through Year of the Cat, Time Passages and On The Border. I was hoping for Nostradamus, Roads to Moscow and/or Valentina Way, but alas...no luck. After the recent run of great shows I have seen, like Wilco, Elton John, The Beach Boys, and Buddy Guy, my expectations were pretty l
