  1. KISS, Springfield Civic Center, Springfield, MA, January 27, 1978 I still have the stub. The price was $7.00.
  2. That is a heartwarming story. Unfortunately, today he would be called a thief for making an illegal copy of something.
  3. Son Volt Not so good? You are very, very generous! I would give Jeff props for being number one in that category. Other faves, living or dead: Bruce Cockburn, Phil Ochs, maybe Harry Chapin.
  4. I am a huge Clint fan, so it was particularly cringeworthy for me. If he had really schooled Obama, I'd be the first to admit it. I felt horrible after watching that. Apparently, though, I live in a parallel universe from some on the far right. Here are a few comments on internet message boards this morning: For the second time in a 24-hour period, I am speechless.
  5. "We're not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term." - Lindsey Graham http://gawker.com/59...-to-sustain-gop http://youtu.be/yoqKdWY692k
  6. Possible headlines for today's Clint story: "Go Ahead: Take Me Away" "G.O.P. Ahead: Take Me Away" I am sure I'll think of more later...
  7. Damn, I love Clint but that was just sad. I would never boycott his next movie because of his politics...but I may have to wait awhile to see the one that's coming out, because all I will be able to think about when I see the doddering old man in the movie is the doddering old man I just saw at the RNC.
  8. How the hell do you people remember stuff like this? You must not have smoked as much weed in high school as I did!
  9. Good answer, DougC, much more complete than mine would have been. I work in Temple Terrace, but would not think to mention it. Don't worry about insulting any of us residents by getting something wrong, guys. People who live in the area are always getting up in arms about some aspect of this. Sometimes people in Clearwater or St. Pete get ticked off at Tampa because they're always being included in the whole "Tampa Bay region" thing. To make it worse, the Tampa Bay Times Forum - where the convention is being held - used to be called the St. Pete Times Forum. I guess the paper changed its name
  10. I hope this isn't too disrespectful-sounding for the "Respector" edition, but as a Tampa resident, I will be glad when it's over and these folks are gone. Having the Republican convention here feels like there's a heavy negative vibe over the whole city.
  11. Kbraz, I think atticus was making a joke. Welcome to VC! Of course, I could be wrong...wouldn't be the first time...
  12. And now I'd like to say That crime sure doesn't pay But if you want to make some money on the sly Well, you can always rent The U.S. government It's the best one that money can buy.
  13. Even Fox news has someone who called out Ryan on his BS: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/08/30/paul-ryans-speech-in-three-words/?cmpid=prn_aol&icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl2%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D199269
  14. This show is just beyond great. The only thing that frustrates me is how there are some fans who go online and post comments that are mindlessly critical of episodes, or even whole seasons (i.e., they are bored by scenes with Skyler, etc.) I really feel like it's a case of pearls before swine. It reminds me of when people used to complain about The Sopranos being too slow. Aargh! Like winterland said, the writing is subtle but brilliant.
  15. The whole "birther" issue has gone on for far too long. It should have been a dead issue long ago. At best, Romney should have learned that he is not a comedian. He should not try to tell a joke. And, it shows how tone deaf and insensitive he is. Imagine any other president being asked to produce his birth certificate after his election. Exactly. Romney is probably correct, no one has ever asked for his birth certificate. He has also probably never been pulled over for driving while white. So he is either a terrible comedian who is incredibly unaware of what the experience is of an African-Ame
  16. Great article. And just to show that we are more civil here on Via Chicago than the people on TV, here is Chris Matthews totally ripping Rance Priebus about this issue. Pure awesomeness. http://news.yahoo.co...-145819601.html
  17. I loved that SP episode, but I am always hesitant now to bring it up. I think Romney's the douche, but I will be labeled a racist if I say Obama is ... well, never mind.
  18. I love these guys, but I am like A-man in that I rarely listen to much of anything post 70s. All the shows I attended were in the 80s (and one in '91), so every once in a while I break those out. But the precipitous decline in Jerry's voice after about '83 or '84 makes just about all of it hard for me to listen to. I can't even stand to hear him on the official releases most of the time with the exception of the In The Dark. It was just that pitiful.
  19. Wow, thanks for posting that. Any previously unseen footage of the mighty Syd is always a welcome treat.
  20. Wow, nice set. Any show that opens with Via Chicago would make my head explode. Awesome!
  21. Heresy, sir. However, I will admit that it should not be allowed anywhere as a karaoke tune. It's too long, and the ending cannot be handled by amateurs.
  22. Bernie Sanders is awesome...one of the few Independents in Congress. I would still be one myself if you didn't have to register as a D or an R to vote in the primaries here. He made the point I was trying to make, but much more succinctly: "The deficit is a serious issue, but we must not move toward deficit reduction on the backs of the elderly, the children, the sick and the poor."
  23. http://economicsonlinetutor.com/useconomichistory.html I don't vouch for the accuracy of this chart, but it sure is interesting. Ironically, the site has a note on it saying "No correlation exists between the tax rates of the highest income brackets and the performance of the economy." Yet if you look at the Top Marginal Tax Rate from 1932 to 1981 - during which time we saw the largest expansion of a prosperous middle class in US history - that tax rate was incredibly high. At the least, this is interesting to me.
  24. How's the Magazine Called Sunset from July 25 in NY? I'm seriously contemplating purchasing the whole show just for that track. I don't have a single quality live recording of it and am one of the people who has been known to request it.
