Presidential Race (Respector Edition)
Mr. Heartbreak replied to lost highway's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I guess it just appealed to his base so much. He hit Romney on so many things he didn't mention in the first debate, from the 47% comment to outsourcing jobs to China to trying to score points over the deaths of Americans in Libya to defunding Planned Parenthood. I thought it was a masterful performance, in stark contrast to debate #1, and really seemed to throw Romney off his game. This time it was Romney who was grimacing, looking like someone peed on his leg. I will sleep like a baby tonight for the first time in weeks. -

So after Obama got beaten in the first debate, some of us on the left actually admitted it. I am dying to see how man of the folks planning to vote for Romney will openly admit he got his ass kicked tonight. That was sweet! -
Everyone tells me that.

Well played, sir, well played. -
I totally forget this one...have to cut something from my list to make room for it!

That is awesome, a very cool pic! How was the show?

I had an even more disturbing visual: all the guys from Wilco sitting around the table with this one random person. Awkward! After going through some major Wilco marathons over the past ten years, I reached something of a saturation point myself. Now I listen to them when I am in the mood, like most of my ever-expanding music collection, but when I do, it's usually just for a couple of hours. I may never hit the intensity of my 2001-2003 phase, but there are some great memories there. The advice from i'm only sleeping is spot on. And by the way, I still consider them to be the best American b

What portion of your musical collection features rap?
Mr. Heartbreak replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
I guess I did misunderstand the intent of the original sentence. I am not sure how to answer your question. If you ask why I don't like cucumbers, I will have to tell you I just don't like the way they taste. Doesn't really answer it, but what else can I say? I don't like anything about it. I prefer singing. Some of the music itself is okay - not great, just okay - but as soon as the rapping begins, it's like ice cold water in my ears. Actually, more like poison. But really, this thread should not be about me and my lack of love for the genre. I just chimed in, since other non-rap fans did too -

Not really. If you don't think you like jazz, are you going to listen to a ton of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny G, Chuck Mangione, Eberhard Weber and John Abercrombie just to be sure? I have heard more than I care to of just about all the major rap stars, and then when people tried to "open my mind" to the "greats" of the genre, I also tried listening to Public Enemy, The Roots, Lil Wayne and The Beastie Boys. I hated every single second of it. Why should I torture myself just to make sure I really, really dislike something? I have already proven to myself beyond a shadow -

I can live with that. I forgot Dumb All Over by Frank Zappa, which should fit in the same category as the others. I got called a racist on here a few years ago in a rap discussion, so I think I should bow out before I say anything else about how much I dislike this genre. Only thing I dislike almost as much is opera. -
Going to Costa Rica! Anyone ever been? Need some help!

Bring Imodium. Just kidding, have a really good time. Never been but I have traveled to Thailand, the Philippines, Italy and France, and it's always great to travel abroad. Wish I could do it more often. -

Exactly correct, Kevin. First there was the "Birthers," then we had the "Skewers," and now we have the "Jobbers." It really is incredible. Next, if Israel attacks Iran, somehow Obama will get blamed because he has soooooo much influence with Netanyahu...it will just magically happen that way overnight, dontcha know. -
Sam Shepard. Any fans? New doco, too.
Mr. Heartbreak replied to Fritz's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Was a huge fan in college and read just about all his plays. Very interesting guy. I am one of the few Dylan fans who likes Brownsville Girl, mainly because he co-wrote it with Shepard. -

I thought Romney did better in the debate, too. But interestingly, not everyone sees it the way most of us did. Among the 20-30% who somehow thought Obama won were some undecided women voters. Presumably, they didn't like seeing the guy get attacked so much, and after the debate they were leaning more towards Obama. In the focus group segment I watched, which took place right after the debate, they said he seemed more relatable and mentioned that he spoke to the camera directly multiple times, which made him look like he was addressing all Americans, not just his opponent. Makes me think that, -
I downloaded them all, but I am fanatical like that.

Most everyone will think I am nuts for even saying this, but I highly recommend looking for the Satanic Sessions, which are outtakes and multiple takes of songs from when they were recording Their Satanic Majesties Request. It has a lot of repetition, as with any sessions (with "Take One," "Take Two," etc.), but there is some really interesting stuff in there, some of which is work on tracks that never got finished. And, love it or hate it, you have to admit there is no other Stones period anything like it! It's at least 10 or 12 discs worth of material, if you find all of it.

An article to make Obama supporters feel better after the debate. God knows we need it. http://prospect.org/...-it-wont-matter -
Aha, I need to look for that, then. Never heard anything from July that year, as far as I can recall.

Ah yes, Lake Acid. Some great stuff there. Electric To Lay Me Down! The Wheel on that show is my favorite version.

I would pay for cleaned up versions of 10/9/82 & 10/10/82. Some of my favorite versions of a bunch of songs, including Touch of Grey and Throwing Stones...flubbed lyrics and all.
