Mr. Heartbreak replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
Pretty nice write-up of the two-night stand on the Rolling Stone website. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/wilco-trace-their-evolution-in-two-night-brooklyn-stand-20120725?utm_source=dailynewsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter -

Let's see...I bought the album on vinyl in the 80s...bought the CD in the 90s...then got the reissue. Nope, I will not be springing for this either. -
I copped this setlist from a professional review of another show on the tour, and made adjustments to tailor it to tonight's show. It might not be 100%, but if not, it's pretty close. Very fun show, great to see the Donald enjoying himself so much. 1. People Get Up and Drive Your Funky Soul (James Brown) – lead: female vocalists 2. That Lady (Isley Brothers) – lead: all three frontmen 3. Sweet Soul Music (Arthur Conley) – lead: all three frontmen 4. I Keep Forgetting (Doobie Brothers) – lead: McDonald 5. Trouble Man (Marvin Gaye) – lead: Fagen 6. Kid Charlemagne (Steely Dan)

Aw, this is a bummer. He was so hilarious as George Jefferson back in the day. I guess he is really movin' on up for real this time. RIP, Sherman. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/24/sherman-hemsley-dead-dies-the-jeffersons_n_1699590.html?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl2%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D183575

Wow, seriously? I would be so bummed if they didn't give it much love...unless maybe they were playing more ST or BT songs in their place. I think YHF was near the top of multiple "Best of the Decade" for a reason. If anything, I'd be more psyched to hear YHF songs that don't get played as often anymore: Reservations, Kamera, and Pot Kettle Black in particular. When they broke out PKB in St. Augustine, I was like "Yesssssss!!!"

Got tickets today for the Orlando show for me and a couple other guys...three seats, in the middle section, on the floor. Pretty sweet. I didn't have the "fan club" password, but Ticketbastard lets you automatically join for $50 if you want to purchase tickets today. I figure we can split that three ways and it's worth it. No sign of the password on the web.

Might that be a reference to Airline to Heaven? I'm not aware of any Wilco song called Airliner. -
The problem with voter disenfranchisement is not that people have to "show ID." It's that new laws have been implemented requiring voters to show a form of ID that they have never been required to show in the past. For example: say a 92-year-old woman in one of the offending states has never had a photo ID because she has always been poor, does not know how to drive a car, and always got a ride from her late husband until he died last year. Under the old system, she only had to present her birth certificate or Social Security card to vote; under the new law, she has to get someone to take he

Boy, these threads get derailed easily. Did I forget to say IMHO?

That's a good call. I would rate Greg probably right behind Pigpen.
-
This is really sad news for...just kidding, nobody really gives a fuck, do they? Kudos to the AOL writer who came up with Band Splits Up After 30 Years Together. I clicked on it.
-
Easy Wind popped up on my iTunes shuffle just now. Man, Pigpen was a great blues singer...not exactly on the level of Muddy or Howlin' Wolf, but better than any other white guy I can think of. The dude had a lot of feeling and soul in his vocals....sadly, I think he lived the blues to a fair extent.

Man, there's a reason this forum was named after that song. What a masterwork.

Sounds good for sure. If the guys want to know a good way to ensure a crowd stays on its feet, this setlist is looking like a good template.
-
Heh. I agree, but I have many similar opinions with which many on here would disagree. I was just having fun.
-
I feel kind of guilty because when I heard this news, my first thought was, Wow, I didn't realize he was still living! My second thought was, Well, hell, 86 is a pretty darn long life...
-
But of course, that opinion would be just plain wrong.
-
Exactly what I like about them. I forget what the genre label is on the stuff of theirs I uploaded to iTunes, but it definitely does not say Progressive Rock...something like Krautrock/Psychedelic Rock. I think I edited them all to say Psychedelic Rock, just because I am so OCD with my iTunes.

Yeah, no one should be complaining that they aren't mixing up the setlists a bit at this point. Opening with Dawned on Me seems pretty left field (first time they have done that?) and putting Art of Almost into the encores is also kind of radical based on past sets. Come to think of it, Poor Places > Art Of Almost might have made that encore sound like they were starting a whole new show!

There is a Can show from May 1973 at the Olympia in Paris floating around out there. Pretty easy to find if you google it, although it may only be available in mp3. I listened to it on my way to Thailand and thought it was pretty f-ing cool. The guitar work is really good, from what I recall.

This week, when I'm not listening to Ornette Coleman, I've been checking out the early Van der Graaf Generator material, basically going in chronological order. To me, it is similar-sounding to late 60s era Bowie, not just the sound but even the vocals. Interesting.

There are some paranoid people out there. I just read a poster on a blog who wrote that this decision was meant to energize the Republican base, get Romney elected and thereby get the health care law overturned. Um, wouldn't it have just been a lot easier to strike it down?

By the way, here's a rather simplified explanation of how the ACA will work. And it's from dailyfinance.com, not exactly a far left medium. Sounds pretty good overall. Not the "sky-is-falling" nonsense we have been hearing the last couple years. http://www.dailyfina...ect-your-wallet
