  1. Yeah, but Rubio acts like he's both aware and proud of it. Many of them just seem oblivious to their own shitheadedness (i.e., Romney).
  2. If Romney picks as big a douche as Rubio or Ryan, I will feel obligated to actively campaign for Obama again. Not really into it, but I will do it. I live in Florida, and know more about Rubio in particular than the average citizen. He is a world class shithead.
  3. Seconded. Big time. I was born in '64, but songs from that era are still stuck in my consciousness from having gotten radio play even into the early 70s. I am thinking of everything from Baby Love by The Supremes to Light My Fire by The Doors. As if The Beatles, Stones, FZ, Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, and the Grateful Dead weren't enough, the early to mid-60s was an absolutely incredible time for jazz, especially on Blue Note and Impulse! Every time I listen to another "new" (to me) record from that era of jazz, I almost inevitably love it. The 70s could factor in for me if I bent the rules and said
  4. Not the Dick Cheney Heart Transplant post I was expecting...but then, that's my own fault.
  5. Those are some weird pictures. In the summer of '74, Phil had a big ol' beard, and Jerry had no facial hair whatsoever? WTF? I had no idea. Did anyone see this? http://music.yahoo.com/programs/bob-weir-the-national-cover-grateful-dead
  6. The first thing I thought of when I read these two sentences was "Is there gas in the car? Yes, there's gas in car." I, too, have gone through long spells of listening to virtually no Wilco...unless they pop up on my iTunes at work. Then again, I plan on going to see them again in May, so I'm sure I will be hooked all over again at that point.
  7. Far, Far Away used to always be played right after Misunderstood, just like on the album, and it was a great spot for it. I always felt like Sky Blue Sky killed Far, Far Away, as they sound so similar.
  8. We can only hope the circular firing squad on the right keeps on and Obama is reelected, but I wouldn't be complacent about it. It will still take a lot of work, unless unemployment magically drops to six percent and gas prices fall to 2.50 a gallon.
  9. I have no idea. There were so many guests in this thing, and most were unknown to me. I can tell you it wasn't Billy Cox, Robbie Krieger, Dweezil Zappa or Brad Whitford.
  10. This was kind of a blast. The tour features everyone from geezers to youngsters delivering songs Hendrix once played, which means it's not all original Jimi material...that is, they included several covers that Jimi either popularized or bastardized, depending on your POV, including All Along the Watchtower, Like A Rolling Stone, and Killing Floor. Surprisingly, parts of the night turned into what they used to call "cutting" contests, where a young guitar slinger tried to match riffs with an elder. I thought this was hilarious, as the youngsters got schooled again and again. Of particular no
  11. Oddly enough, I'd heard him play that one a few years ago, so I didn't mind. What thrilled me beyond all reason was that he played both Someone Saved My Life Tonight and Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word...both hits that I hadn't ever heard him play before.
  12. Yep, just under three hours, with no break except right before the one-song encore. Similar in length and ambition to the Paul McCartney show I saw in 2010. Both were expensive shows, but in both cases I also felt I got my money's worth.
  13. I saw my first Newt 2012 bumper sticker last week. I would have thought it would say Gingrich. I mean, Newt? Really? First thing I thought of: http://youtu.be/xzYO0joolR0 I will admit I chuckled out loud just a little...
  14. Really? I would not have thought that. Of course, like any double album, it was a little ambitious, so there was bound to be some filler. Heck, the same could be said of most double albums, from The White Album to Being There. But with so many great songs to choose from, I was glad he dug deeper into that album...especially for All The Young Girls, Harmony, and, one of my favorites, Grey Seal. Different strokes, I guess.

  16. My brother does that to me with cryptic Grateful Dead lyrics. He was just heading through Texas and his message was "If I had a gun for every ace I've drawn, I could arm a town the size of Abilene."
  17. Amazon shows that it will be released on March 27th, but my confirmation email from blowitouttahere says April 21st...pretty big discrepancy. I wonder if anyone knows when it will actually come out...
  18. Here is an interesting read. Sorry, Sparky, you will not like this one: http://news.yahoo.co...presidency.html Ron Paul's Pointless Internet Presidency Four years ago, the shrewdest presidential candidates used YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and a dash of Twitter. They also tried to gain a strange new psychic edge called—in the contrived conceit of the day—"mindshare in the blogosphere." Apps were nowhere in campaign strategies. The iPhone was new. The iPad didn't exist. So who e-campaigned best last time? During Super Tuesday week in 2008, Garlik, a British firm that monitors digital reputa
  19. I have to admit, I love the Gaucho album. I think Babylon Sisters is one of their greatest tracks, and I especially love the hilarious title track (although it's pretty dated now...back then it probably sounded progressive, but now it would sound homophobic to people). Their earlier stuff rocked more, but as they got slicker, the level of musicianship became just amazing. It really peaks on Aja, I suppose...

  21. If Rush truly did not say those things with malice, and he's paying a heavy price now, that's what I would call poetic justice. I have always considered him one of the nastiest, most malicious, repulsive human beings walking the earth today. He deserves what he gets. It's karma.
  22. Wow, this thread hasn't been bumped in almost two years. I was thinking about creating a Steely Dan Appreciation thread, and then I remembered the "Search" function.... I have always loved this band, and like pretty much everything they did up through and including Gaucho. Speaking of Everything You Did, that's what just popped up on my iTunes and prompted me to think about them... Where did the bastard run? Is he still around? Now you gotta tell me everything you did baby... Got to love a song with the lines Turn up the Eagles, The neighbors are listening What a way to drown out an a
