  1. Oh, and this year I missed Kings of Leon, because they canceled the rest of the tour. It sucks mainly because I missed Band Of Horses, the opening act.
  2. Well, of course I would like to see them hit a higher number. I believe both YHF and AGIB charted up to around 3 or 4, but memory is fallible, and I'm too lazy to research it.
  3. Wow, so it entered the charts at #5, and fell to #11 a week later.
  4. I think there are plenty of better Wilco songs than The Lonely 1, including some of the songs on Being There...but it's still pretty great. I could not make it through more than about 20 minutes of Chelsea Walls so, thankfully, it did not get the chance to ruin the song for me.
  5. I'm thinking it was not delivered via cigarette. The missing cigarette was just a diversion. The flowers, fruit, and leaves of the lily of the valley plant are all poisonous, but the delivery method remains a mystery.
  6. The Beatles. I was only five when they broke up, but theoretically, I could have seen the rooftop show if only someone could have teleported me to the U.K. You see, the Beatles were the greatest band of all time, and anyone who doesn't like them...ah, forget it.
  7. Phil Ochs has also been cited as a possible inspiration..not only because of the gold lamé reference, but also because Phil committed suicide by hanging (see the next song, Dreamer In My Dreams). Might be a stretch, but it's not impossible.
  8. All excellent questions...but I think that the question of whether Walt poisoned Brock was answered in the "Behind the Scenes" video on AMC's website. Walt did it...which also explains his extreme reaction when Jesse tells him that Brock will survive ("Thank God!"). I don't think he actually wanted the kid dead, just wanted Jesse to think Gus was responsible. They have 16 episodes to go, so there are many different directions they can go..including Hank and company pursuing the Gus/Hector lead, Mike returning from Mexico...all kinds of stuff. One great thing: they never satisfy the viewer's
  9. I don't think that's correct. Once Keith and Donna joined in '72, they were with the band for the next six years. In fact, I have several shows where Bob Weir mentioned Pigpen being sick, anticipating him coming back to the band at a later date, but of course that never happened.
  10. I went to the Thursday show as well. My buddy Don and I headed all the way up there from Tampa. We planned it a couple months ago, and he was going further north to visit another friend, so the idea originally was to take separate cars. Then I broke my ankle running a 5K over Labor Day weekend, so Don suggested he drive both of us and I fly back. It was a good idea, and not much more expensive than driving. Still, spending a hundred bucks on transportation alone for a Wilco show made me ask the inevitable question: will it be worth it? I have to say, it was. C'mon, it's Wilco. And Nick Lowe
  11. I am totally hooked on this show, although I actually like the slower episodes just as much as the recent fast-paced ones. I have felt the writing all season long has been taut, filled with tension. It's just excellent.
  12. Sometimes It Happens might be the best non-album track on the deluxe version. The rest, not so much (although the cover of I Love My Label is pretty cool).
  13. Sweet version of Jesus, etc. I hope they have decided to dispense with the singalong version for a while. Jeff and John sound great harmonizing on this.
  14. Man, this just reinforces for me how much I love YHF. The new stuff sounds pretty great live, but it still kind of reminds me of Loose Fur. Nothing will ever top YHF for me.
  15. On the other hand, there are now apparently all those photos of Michael Stipe's sausage that people can enjoy. http://www.spinner.c...1/rem-break-up/
  16. Muddy Waters - Unk In Funk A 1974 session with classic Muddy lineup (Pinetop Perkins, Bob Margolin, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, etc). Somehow, I'd never heard of this one until recently, and after downloading, I realized it had some tunes that were unfamiliar to me. Not the best Muddy record of all time, but a worthwhile entry in the catalog, and definitely gave me a few songs to add to my iPod.
  17. Hilarious. I'm thinking maybe that reviewer writes/speaks English as a second language...?
  18. Yeah, I didn't remember your nickname. Sorry. lol I also have a special prejudice for those albums for a couple other reasons: 1) I'm a writer myself & 2) I discovered Wilco by way of a 1998 Jeff Tweedy solo show, so the lyrics of some of those songs were already kicking my ass before I even heard the official releases.
  19. Chuck Berry - You Can't Catch Me I bought a brand new airmobile It was custom made It was a Flight DeVille With a powerful motor And some hideaway wings Push in on the button and you will hear her sing Now you can't catch me Baby, you can't catch me 'Cause if you get too close You know I'm gone like a cool breeze New Jersey Turnpike in the wee wee hours I was rolling slowly 'cause of drizzlin' showers Here come a flattop, he was movin' up with me Then come wavin' goodbye In a little, old suped-up mini I put my foot in my tank and I begin to roll Moanin' sirens, 'twas the state patrol So I
  20. Not to derail this thread, but the person who mentioned their befuddlement at some fans' dislike of SBS should read these. There were no lyrics of this caliber on that album. These great quotes are mainly from ST, BT, AGIB & YHF, the four greatest albums in the Wilco discography.
  21. Via Chicago and She's A Jar have some of the best Wilco lyrics of all time. I printed my name on the back of a leaf And I watched it float away The hope I had in a notebook full of white dry pages Was all I tried to save But the wind blew me back via Chicago In the middle of the night And not without fight At the crush of veils and starlight and... Are there really ones like these? The ones I dream Float like leaves And freeze to spread skeleton wings I passed through before I knew you and let's not forget I Am Trying To Break Your Heart: I want to glide through those brown eyes dr
  22. This is exactly how I feel. Not only was SBS a huge letdown after the great run of BT>AGIB, it was also quite boring and insipid to many of us fans. I felt particularly distressed by this, because I have been through a lengthy recovery process myself. I wanted to like the songs that related to that, but they just weren't very good. In fact, What Light and Leave Me Like You Found Me and Please Be Patient With Me regularly get hated on as among the least worthy songs in the entire Wilco catalog. For me, even the "fan favorites" on SBS are incredibly weak. Impossible Germany has some of the
  23. Here's my revised list, including the new one: 1. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 2. Summerteeth 3. Being There 4. A Ghost Is Born 5. A.M. 6. The Whole Love 7. Wilco (The Album) 8. Sky Blue Sky
  24. I prefer Times New Roman, but I have to use Geneva a lot at my job.
  25. Well, see, my list has AGIB at number four because the other albums are all better. Actually, some of the songs on AGIB are better than some of the songs on some of the other records (e.g., Spiders is better than We're Just Friends), but only in the live setting. Not too crazy about the studio versions on AGIB.
