  1. Thank you kindly. I know you are right, but I would have the same response for anyone...simple sentence, starts with Go and ends with yourself.
  2. Well, Sparky, you may think all this discussion is esoteric and theoretical, but it actually involves real people. My brother has been homeless for years, and his idea of a "home" these days is living in a tent in the woods. Thank GOD he has been able to get a free cell phone from the government, which he is able to use periodically. If not for that, our mother would never hear from him unless he panhandles enough cash for food AND a phone card, and neither would I. As it is, he usually gets one meal a day. He can also dial 911 on it in case of emergency, like, you know, having a heart attack
  3. Pink Floyd has a few offenders: Bike (horn) Atom Heart Mother (motorcycle) Another Brick in Wall Part II Seamus (dog howling)
  4. Eventually, there will probably have to be some kind of weird trade agreement whereby we agree to buy all kinds of cheap shit from China in exchange for them forgiving XXXX-trillion dollars of debt. Too many countries around the world rely on the good old US of A being the world's biggest consumer for them to let us go bankrupt. As they say (ironically) in the world of psychology, "A dysfunctional relationship is better than no relationship at all." There really is no point in going through life worrying about things so far out of our control.
  5. Also, since we have some love for Cheap Trick at Budokan, how about some love for the band they were opening for? Kiss Alive! Come on, that version of Parasite is awesome...
  6. Oh, hell yeah. Some of the later releases are pretty stellar too, like Imaginary Diseases (instrumental) and Philly '76, which I believe is the only album featuring Bianca Odin on vocals. The version of Ancient Armaments on Halloween is pretty top shelf too.
  7. Actually, a lot of us are interested. I don't often comment, but I read just about every one of these review threads, and they are always appreciated.
  8. Supposedly, that is a non-story, because Mike Love already had these dates booked before they did the 50th reunion tour. Either way, it makes him look like a douche. I have even read a conspiracy theory that this was done to get more press, but I can't imagine Brian would sign on to the "Sure, I'll look like a confused senior citizen to get more press" agenda.
  9. Looks like the memoir is out tomorrow. Sounds like it would be interesting.
  10. Wow, this thread is brutal: Stones, Beatles, Who, Aerosmith? I don't listen to these groups constantly or anything, but I cannot fathom putting them in the "Used to like but cannot listen for long now" category. Damn. For me, it would be lesser known acts that were somewhat stuck in their time, like Missing Persons, or Kansas, or The Yardbirds. But those arena acts? No, I can't imagine that just yet.
  11. Paul Weller. I know I have told this story before, but I just saw his name in a random thread on here, and knew nothing about him or his music. Forgot all about seeing the name, but my subconscious mind apparently remembered it, because I had a dream weeks (or months) later in which I was buying some music by Paul Weller. Woke up and was intrigued enough by that weird experience to go on Amazon and look for him. Ordered a used copy of Wildwood, and once I got that I eventually ended up buying just about everything he has released, including the Style Council box set!

  13. And then, from the very same website, there's this: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/09/21/ryan_booed_at_aarp_after_calling_for_repeal_of_obamacare.html
  14. Those first few years of Alabama Getaway were pretty f-ing sweet too. You would never have guessed from the studio version that so many shows would start out with that tune, just crackling with energy.
  15. This exactly the point I was trying to make. Hell, even with an average income - making 1/4 of what some folks on here have discussed - I am relatively wealthy compared to 90% of the rest of the world. If I can acknowledge that, it's hard to understand why someone with much, much more than me cannot...and a little sad, frankly.
  16. It is all so relative. To think that poor old Mitt could have had so much more.... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/20/mitt-romney-not-a-billionaire-rich_n_1900949.html?1348172656&icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D208700
  17. I am truly sorry that the relatively well-off people on this thread do not feel that they are rich. That must really suck. But if you're trying to make any of us feel sorry for you, you are doing a terrible job. Actually, being able to afford to live in a nice neighborhood in a relatively affluent county would likely be considered rich by the standards of most Americans today. If anything, I thought you would feel better knowing how well-off you are. I was wrong. Not the first time, not likely to be the last. Thanks, indy81, for trying to add more perspective, but it just won't work. You ar
  18. You're right, I should have qualified it. If you are making 200k per year, you are relatively rich...compared to almost everybody else in the world. Better, no? Here is some more perspective: Average (Median) Household Income by Community These numbers are per the 2010 U.S. Census. Coto de Caza: $160,655 Villa Park: $146,776 Laguna Beach: $141,916 Ladera Ranch: $123,089 Yorba Linda: $115,279 North Tustin: $111,355 Rossmoor: $109,662 Newport Beach: $107,007 Rancho Santa Margarita: $99,722 Laguna Niguel: $97,018 Mission Viejo: $95,878 Aliso Viejo: $95,498 Lake Forest: $91,0
  19. I think we just wrecked this thread. Someone else will have to get it back on track.
  20. But you guys know who Joe Blow really is, right? http://deadspin.com/5944189/some-jackass-made-blowjob-pantomimes-behind-home-plate-at-wrigley-for-nearly-an-inning-before-getting-ejected
  21. And, to add perspective...comparing U.S. citizens to the world at large...try this on for size: http://www.givingwha...ich-you-are.php Compared to almost everyone else on planet earth, we are very rich indeed. Another reality check: http://www.dailymail...t-live-U-S.html And another: http://www.financial...s-make-percent/ According to that last one, the average income for the Top 10% is $113,799. So there you go. WHAT THE TOP 1%, 5%, 10%, 25% and 50% MAKE IN AMERICA Based on the Internal Revenue Service’s 2010 database below, here’s how much the top Americans make: Top 1%: $3
  22. http://www.usatoday....sing/53033322/1 Inflation-adjusted median household income - not individual, but household - is about 50K. If you make FOUR TIMES THAT MUCH, you are fucking rich by American standards. Don't even get me started on how rich that is compared to the overwhelming majority of people on this planet. And by the way, probably part of the reason you are rich is because you aren't buying new cars all the time. Even Warren Buffet doesn't buy a new car every year. The exceptions to this would be if you make $200K and live in Manhattan. Even then, you're not exactly poor. Like lost
