Please, folks, don't get complacent about Obama's reelection prospects. There is still plenty of time, and poll numbers may not truly reflect what people will do on November 6. What I meant to express by the phrases "hospital staff" and "orderlies and whatnot" were the vast numbers of people around me, which I'm sure included all manner of x-ray technicians, radiologists, certified nursing assistants, LPNs and RNs. Even people like me who haven't had kids get these moments. I had my appendix out last month, and 95% of the hospital staff looked like kids to me... It started to freak me out a little that none of them looked older than I do, and I look about 35-36 at most. Even the surgeon looked young (he was 43 or so, it turns out.) I'm guessing most of the orderlies and whatnot were about 28. Damn...

What did people think of Michelle's speech last night? I have honestly never been as huge a fan of her as most of the country seems to be, but I thought she knocked it out of the park. It seemed truly heartfelt. The line that impressed me the most, personally, was this: A great rebuttal to the "We did build it" crap...and also a reminder, for me at least, that I did not recall hearing the words gratitude or humility once during the time I tuned in to the RNC. Just sayin' ....
