Might I politely request that kidsmoke lock this thread too?

Anybody have a boot of 12/28/79 or 12/30/79? I'm wondering if it's worth dropping the dime to get the extra disc from 12/30. Edit: Actually, it's still up on archive.org, and the Sugaree sounds mighty fine!

The best band in the 1990s

What about Royal Trux? I'd imagine they have some fans on this board... -
Someone at Best Buy must've messed up on the pricing
Mr. Heartbreak replied to jff's topic in Someone Else's Song
When I bought Fearless Leader and Interplay, I played each of them straight through. Took a couple days apiece, I'd say, but it was enjoyable. Then I think I switched to something totally different for a few days! -
Awesome!

My brother was at that show, but I missed it... was in VA at the time, and saw them the week before. I think I have this one on CD somewhere, though...

Someone at Best Buy must've messed up on the pricing
Mr. Heartbreak replied to jff's topic in Someone Else's Song
As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I have both the Fearless Leader and Interplay box sets, and they were reasonably priced and loaded with good material. Definitely worth the price. -
Performance of She from their glory days. Check out how the audience erupts into applause, thinking the song is over, two different times. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfagvcwjLyE

Mine too, though in '78. I was just a wee lad, and really should have had earplugs, but who knew? A lot of their appeal was visual, and went right to the heart of a teen or pre-teen boy: Gene breathed fire! Gene spat blood! Ace's smokin' guitar! Paul broke a guitar! But for someone just getting into the hard rock world, their songs were a lot of fun. I'm glad I got to see them back then, too ... twice, actually.

I am totally on board with every one of these statements. Those of you who were disappointed with Wilco the Album, and who feel it's nowhere near as good as what came before ... well, that's exactly how I feel about Sky Blue Sky. I wanted to like it, but actively disliked most of it. The beginning of Side With the Seeds is one of the worst JT vocal performances ever; Shake It Off, Hate It Here and Walken are absolutely terrible to my ears; and I could also live without ever hearing Impossible Germany again. The only things I liked okay on it were Either Way and the title track/reprise of Far

I'm a poet myself, but I still took the refrain a bit more literally: http://shups.wordpress.com/2007/10/03/parasite-advertising-brand-logos-painted-on-insects/

Someone at Best Buy must've messed up on the pricing
Mr. Heartbreak replied to jff's topic in Someone Else's Song
I'm pretty sure that pricing is accurate and you guys are good to go. That's the third box set of Coltrane-related Prestige tunes I have seen. I have two of them, though not this one: Interplay (available on Amazon for 14.99) and Fearless Leader (available on Amazon for 15.58). Not quite as cheap as Best Buy, but close. Louie is right, these are not the amazing, classic Coltrane of My Favorite Things or Sun Ship, but it's good stuff: solid 50s jazz, well recorded, with great players. -
What the hell, I'll take a hit for KISS, too. After all, I've also taken shots on here for people like Elton John on the pop end of things, so why not KISS on the kitsch end? I'd say only about 30% of their material during their heyday was worthwhile, but that 30% contained some pretty great stuff: Black Diamond, Deuce, Cold Gin, Parasite, Rock & Roll All Night, Shout It Out Loud, Hard Luck Woman, Detroit Rock City, Shock Me ... I was always a big fan of Ace Frehley's sloppy, wild guitar playing, and I can literally remember the days when Creem magazine nominated him as guitar player of

Wilco - A Prairie Home Companion 10/3/09
Mr. Heartbreak replied to H.Stone's topic in After The Show
Damn, that sounds great. I always liked that show, and I would love to have seen Wilco in that setting. Thanks for the report! -

I am enough of a bleeding heart liberal that I still get a surge when I hear If I Had A Hammer. Also, it's not a stretch to say that most of us might never have heard of a certain Mr. Zimmerman if it weren't for the Peter, Paul & Mary cover of Blowin' In The Wind. So I was always grateful to them for that.

I must say, I love Goat's Head Soup: Dancing With Mr. D, Heartbreaker, Angie, Silver Train, Star Star ... great album. Speaking of others who owned the 70s (with very little notable output in the 60s), how about this guy: 1970 Elton John 1970 Tumbleweed Connection 1971 Madman Across the Water 1972 Honky Château 1973 Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player 1973 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 1974 Caribou 1975 Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy 1975 Rock of the Westies 1976 Blue Moves Even if you discounted the first album as inferior to what was to come, and stopped at 1974, that's s
