  1. He was the man for a long, long time. Well, at least he lived to a ripe old age! RIP, Mr. Cronkite ... "And that's the way it was."
  2. A couple more: Mystic Chords of Memory (self-titled) http://www.amazon.com/Mystic-Chords-Memory/dp/B000294SG6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1248142654&sr=1-3 Spirit Stereo Frequency by All Night Radio http://www.amazon.com/Spirit-Stereo-Frequency-Night-Radio/dp/B00019G43C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1248142713&sr=1-2
  3. I know I just posted about this a few days ago, but then I realized yesterday was the anniversary of this show: 7/18/72 This show has a rough beauty, that's the only way I can describe it. They have a few equipment problems, and the ensuing frustration (and a few bad notes) seems to make them kick it up a few big notches. The versions of Me & Me Uncle, Bird Song, Sugaree, Black-Throated Wind, Loser and Stella Blue are really stellar. Jerry forgets a verse in Loser and then sings it a couple times later just to make sure he got it right. Bobby's between song commentary is legendary ("tiny
  4. Took a chance on that one, and it's pretty good. Thanks for the recommendation ... the price was right! Here are few I found for a penny: Kerosene Hat by Cracker http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000000W4I/ref=ox_ya_oh_product Rattle & Hum by U2 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001FS6/ref=ox_ya_oh_product Odelay by Beck http:// http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000003TBP/ref=ox_ya_oh_product Voodoo Lounge by the Stones http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000000W6L/ref=ox_ya_oh_product
  5. Bob Dylan is not a proper band either, but he has still been included on this list. Unless, of course, you only take into account the work he did with The Band ... in which case, he's still in. Sorry, I just could not resist.
  6. Might have a point there. Wonder if that means Jon Gosselin has been hit in the head too many times, too? http://www.celebuzz.com/jon-gosselin-engaged-hailey-glassman-s119141/
  7. I thought it was excellent, better than the studio version. The point where Jeff's voice goes up an octave or three didn't sound strained, as it does on the disc (and, unfortunately, on all too many songs on the previous CD). He sounded better than he has on most of the performances I've seen on late night shows, including Conan. I thought Feist was understated but sounded great and looked like she was having fun. Overall, I'd give it an A.
  8. I second the motion. The John Coltrane Classic Quartet was unreal. You guys have covered it well!
  9. My wife and I just had that exact same experience last night. I was like, "That's Wilco! That song is like ten years old." And then she told me she heard "You Never Know" in Borders last week. lol
  10. Damn, first Alexis Arguello, then Gatti. What's up with these boxers dying all of a sudden? http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news?slug=ap-gatti-death&prov=ap&type=lgns
  11. If you don't already have 7/18/82, I highly recommend it. http://deadlistening.blogspot.com/2008/02/1972-july-18-roosevelt-stadium.html
  12. Boxing fans mourn ... appears to have been suicide according to the reports. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4299144 I always associated him with the Warren Zevon song Boom Boom Mancini: When Alexis Arguello gave Boom Boom a beating Seven weeks later he was back in the ring Some have the speed and the right combinations If you can't take the punches it don't mean a thing
  13. Wow, bunch of fellow Deadheads on this thread. Cool! My list includes Brokedown Palace too, and has for years. The rest of the list is as follows: Lord of the Starfields - Bruce Cockburn When I'm Gone - Phil Ochs Get Together - The Youngbloods ... and two poems: Crossing the Bar - Tennyson Song (Piping down the valleys wild...) - Blake
  14. My exact reaction. Although I never liked anything he did after the Jackson 5 years, I also never wished him dead. I wished him in prison on child molestation convictions for many, many years.
  15. Does it give you the option of downloading Dark Neon? I was going to order from iTunes so I can have the bonus track, but I'd really like to have the actual CD as well as a digital version of it.
  16. I would even consider some of Zappa's stuff to fall loosely into that prog-rock category: highly complex, and difficult enough to play that high caliber musicians were required. There's a little connection to King Crimson and Bowie, too, as Adrian Belew played with FZ and left for Bowie's band, then went (I think) to KC for a while.
  17. I only caught her in concert once, but she was quite a force. Very powerful performer. Would like to have seen her more.
  18. You guys must have been a little straighter than me, 'cause I don't remember any of that escalator or ramp stuff.
  19. 04/22/83 Veterans Memorial Coliseum - New Haven, CT Set 1: Finiculi Finicula, Feel Like A Stranger, Bird Song > CC Rider, Row Jimmy, Mama Tried > Mexicali Blues, Cold Rain & Snow, My Brother Esau > Deal Set 2: Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower > Samson & Delilah, Ship of Fools > Women Are Smarter > Drums > Truckin' > Spoonful > Stella Blue > Around and Around > Good Lovin', E: It's All Over Now Baby Blue I was driving down the road with my iPod on "shuffle," and all of a sudden this very upbeat Samson & Delilah comes on. I'm
  20. Jeff beat up Ripple pretty bad at a solo show in the 90s. Pretty funny, but kinda harsh too, if you're a real Deadhead!
  21. She's an interesting character. Saw her open for Warren Zevon the last time I had a chance to see him. Pretty good opening act, too.
  22. 1) Via Chicago 2) Misunderstood 3) I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
  23. I'm pretty sure that these are just the demos, and when the final version comes out we will be very, very surprised.
