  1. My prediction: Obama gets the nomination, but whether he runs with or without Hil, he loses to McCain in November by a somewhat slim margin. Then in 2010, the Senate and House get a majority of Dems back in. Yes, I am a skeptic and a cynic.
  2. The funny part about Pat Benatar's version of Wuthering Heights is that I really do like it better than Kate Bush's. Of course, I heard Pat's version first, so that's probably why. Never been a big fan of the Bush. Wait, that didn't sound right ...
  3. Oh yeah, how about this? Pat Benatar's version of Wuthering Heights blows away the original.
  4. 5. Check out 10/9/82, too. Some great versions of Alabama, West LA, Throwin' Stones & Touch of Grey. One of my favorite shows.
  6. Not a big Neil fanatic. I have Harvest, After the Goldrush & Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, but none of them would ever make my top 20.
  7. I know, I like the 70s stuff better, from about '73 - '75 ... that's a whole other blasphemy thread, I guess.
  8. I just noticed this post. That's pretty funny, thanks a lot! Well, the last time we had a "Top 20 Albums of All Time Thread," here's what I posted, so now you can make a more informed decision. 1. Zappa/Mothers - One Size Fits All 2. Beatles - Sgt. Pepper 3. Bob Dylan - Bootleg Series: Live 1966 4. Grateful Dead - Europe '72 5. Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited 6. Bruce Cockburn - In The Falling Dark 7. Phil Ochs - There and Now: Live in Vancouver 8. Rolling Stones - Beggar's Banquet 9. Joni Mitchell - Court And Spark 10. Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home 11. Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold As
  9. Damn, and I just bought the whole remastered catalog. What about Peace Frog? Have you ever heard the transition into Blue Sunday, where - ah, just kidding.
  10. Damn, it's nice to see more actual fun on this thread. I really did have to bail out of here yesterday for work reasons, but I don't want anyone to feel left out, so: I really did have to bail out of here yesterday for work reasons, Cortez, but I couldn't seem to tear myself away. Your post was pretty damn funny, though, I'll give you that. Many people over the years have tried to sell me on the poetic merits of rap, and I was just responding to solace's point about poetry. I know a little bit about it from my studies (and from my own work over the last 30 years), and I don't like the
  11. I don't have any pent-up anger, you ninny. Here's the spirit of the whole darn thread, starting from page 1 So, when I do the exact same thing on p.17 or whatever, except that I mention rap, I'm suddenly called upon to deliver a critical exegesis? What the hell? Why do all the other people get a pass? Thanks for the clarification. Ever consider politics as a career? Your ability to finely parse meanings and intentions would serve well. By the way, I wish the Replacements did something for me, but they don't. Still, compared to rappers, they are geniuses. God, I've let this waste wa
  12. Yes, I think calling someone closed-minded and ignorant is a personal attack. I'm a very open-minded person, and far from ignorant. I stood, and stand, by all my statements, and didn't consider any of them to be douchebaggery or, as you so eloquently put it, "stupid shit." Therefore, yes, I also consider that a personal attack. Jesus, do I really have to list 50 freaking rap "artists" to make the point? Mainstream and otherwise, I've strongly disliked everything I've ever heard in this sorry genre. I do not like it. That doesn't make me closed-minded or ignorant. Yep, I was wait
  13. Right, you were just interested in it yesterday. Here's your original response to my post. And I'm looking for a fight? You may want to look up passive/aggressive behavior. By the way, defending oneself is not looking for a fight. I never come on here looking for a fight with anyone. I posted my opinions in a thread that was set up to be inflammatory to some, and was attacked by you and solass. Notice I never attacked anyone ... all the people who think that the bands I like suck got NO RESPONSE from me. Yet when I did the EXACT SAME THING as they did, assholes like you and solass are
  14. Is English your second language? What I said was and There's no accusation there. There's a discussion of "authority" and an invitation to have at it. Am I wrong? Is it literally impossible for admins to delete or alter posts? I don't know, and I don't even give a shit. I said what I said out of pure bitter sarcasm toward someone who should be moderating responsibly, not attacking others by calling them ignorant and closed-minded. I haven't accused anybody of doing anything other than name-calling. I don't know why I should feel obligated to you in the first place, since you can't
  15. I don't have any direct knowledge about how any of the admins on this board operate. That's my (very understandable) ignorance. There is a difference between ignorance about something and actual stupidity. The former is what I just demonstrated. The latter is what you just demonstrated. Thanks for the reminder. There are many great Miles Davis trumpet riffs that have been sampled into rap songs. They are great ... but the rap songs are not great just because they sampled them. Peace, yo!
  16. I stand by all my statements, and although I did not intend any of them to be personally offensive to anyone on this board, it's worth noting that I also did not directly attack any of the previous individuals who posted. Yet somehow my post apparently warrants a direct attack on me. Hmm, if stating my personal opinions in a thread called "Musical Blasphemy You Truly Believe" makes me a douchebag, then there must be a lot of us douchebags in here. A-man's points are well taken, especially this one: I guess the answer is No, eh? Just because someone calls something "poetry" doesn't mean I
  17. Musical blasphemy I truly believe: 1) Frank Zappa is the most important musical figure of the 20th century. 2) The entire punk movement was a joke: a bunch of no-talent douchebags who couldn't play their instruments worth a damn. That includes the Clash, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols ... all of them. Enthusiasm does not equal talent. 3) Elvis Costello sucks balls. 4) Early 70s Elton holds up better than early 70s Bowie. 5) The Replacements are boring as fuck. 6) Springsteen is a talented writer, but that's about it. Patti Smith's version of Because the Night and Manfred Mann's version of Blin
  18. I don't even go for the types with the large mammalian protuberances, but Scarlett is a knockout. I prefer brunettes, too, but damn, she is a knockout.
  19. I agree heartily on Conor Oberst, disagree on Frankie Valli. Heck, I just saw Jersey Boys, and it really gave me an appreciation for the Four Seasons that I never had before.
  20. This took about a 3-second Google search: http://heavymetal.about.com/od/heavymetal1...101_history.htm
  21. I actually like Izzy and the JuJu Hounds better than G & R. I hate Axl's voice.
  22. Source? I've seen them in FL a bunch of times, and there was always a good-sized crowd. Come on back, guys!
  23. "Always remember that wherever you go, there you are." - Buckaroo Bonzai "A man's got to know his limitations." - Harry Callahan "Listen, punk. To me you're nothin' but dogshit, you understand? And a lot of things can happen to dogshit. It can be scraped up with a shovel off the ground. It can dry up and blow away in the wind. Or it can be stepped on and squashed. So take my advice and be careful where the dog shits ya!" - Harry Callahan "When a naked man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross." - Harry C
