I was feeling overwhelmed too, until I got an iPod. I really think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I put about 6000 songs on iTunes from CDs, then transferred them all to the iPod, and got a new car stereo which has a plug-in for the iPod. Now I hardly ever carry CDs around, and I love being surprised by stuff on the Shuffle feature, though I often play random songs by artists or even entire "albums." I LOVE not having to constantly change CDs.

Yeah, what's the deal with that? They were here in '05 & '06, but '07 ... nothing.

Thanks. I was actually tempted to post it to wikipedia, but I don't have an account with them. Anyone who wants to "steal" it, feel free.

You guys haven't even reached my top ten yet. How about My Humps? Or better yet, how about the tune for those Meow Mix cat food commercials (notoriously resurrected a couple years back)? You know: Meow meow meow meow Meow meow meow meow Meow meow meow meow Meow meow meow meow Meow meow meow meow Meow meow meow meow There, now you can hate me. -
How about this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSzf05OiENE

Unforgiven might not make my top 5 films, but it would definitely make my top 5 Clint films list. Excellent stuff.

Yeah, I know most people rate Here Come The Warm Jets as his finest, but I like Tiger Mountain just a little better, mainly because of Mother Whale Eyeless, Third Uncle (which 801 rocked live), and the title track, which is gorgeous. Warm Jets is a close second for me, though. Who doesn't love On Some Faraway Beach? Years ago, I got a cool "fan recording" tape called The Ambivalent Collection, which I believe has most of the vocal stuff that was supposed to be included on My Squelchy Life, but I don't think it ever got released. Eno did release one of the songs (Under) on Another Day on Earth,

1) Taking Tiger Mountain 2) Here Come The Warm Jets 3) Before & After Science 4) Another Green World 5) Wrong Way Up (Eno & Cale) 6) My Life in the Bush of Ghosts (Eno & Byrne) 7) Music for Airports 8) Music for Films 9) Another Day On Earth 10) No Pussyfooting (Fripp & Eno) Those would be my top 10, but I don't have much of the ambient stuff. I love the guy. Minor Wilco connection: I saw this band open for Wilco a couple years ago (I think it was Elf Power) who closed their set with "Needles in the Camel's Eye." That blew my friggin' mind.

Devices Enforce Silence Of Cellphones

I totally agree that we have become a nation of pussies. I'm 43, and when I was a kid, I rode my bike for many hours without ever having a helmet, knee pads or elbow pads. I rode standing up, no hands, the whole bit, and I had a blast. Today, if your kids go without "protective gear," you'll probably be arrested for child abuse. I climbed trees to the top and stayed up there for hours ... also without a helmet. My parents smoked in the car, and we never wore seat belts. There was no such thing as a "car seat" for children under a certain height. The back seat was our car seat. I -
Devices Enforce Silence Of Cellphones

These are such bizarre questions. People having normal conversations don't interfere with anything. People having loud conversations with someone who is not even in the same room are annoying as hell, and often detract greatly from what should be an enjoyable experience (movie, meal at a restaurant, etc.) Do you really need this explained to you? -

Nicely put, MattZ. If you confront a rude person about their rude behavior -- even in a diplomatic way -- they will almost always demonstrate how rude they can really be. -
Devices Enforce Silence Of Cellphones

Actually, what I said was that those places "once had the potential to be sanctuaries from the noise pollution of modern life." I guess they still do, but it's pretty hard to enjoy a nice walk in the woods when junior is just ahead of you going, "YEAH, I'M AT THE PARK RIGHT NOW. YEAH, IT'S REALLY BORING." I fucking hate cell phones, but I hate the obnoxious users much, much more. -

If I could buy one of these devices and use it surreptitiously, I would totally do it. I wouldn't care if it was legal or not. It's sad that banks and other institutions have found it necessary to post signs that say, "For the sake of our other customers, please finish your cell phone calls before conducting your transaction" (or whatever it is they say ... I'm paraphrasing). People should put them on silent mode when they are anywhere the phone might disturb others: the movies, concerts, restaurants, parks, beaches ... all these places, that once had the potential to be sanctuaries from the -
The Flying Burrito Brothers Live - Avalon Ballroom 1969

I finally got around to reading this thread, and it was a great help to me. I did not know there was such a thing as a "completist gene," so now I have a great excuse to give my wife for why I keep getting all this type of stuff. -

As a fellow creative writer who makes his living with words, I'm with TheMaker on this one. It's absurd how poorly writers are paid, even in Hollywood. If you don't have a script, you don't have a show. I could never understand how writers could be the low men on the totem pole.
