  2. I must admit, I'm my favorite Michael. I never liked that creepy fake-nosed pedophile.
  3. 1. Shake It Off 2. Woodgrain 3. On And On And On And On And On (sorry...) 4. Hell Is Chrome 5. We're Just Friends
  4. You might get a Corrina or Estimated, Black-Throated looks like a long shot indeed. Here's last night's setlist; he's doing a lot of Dead these days. I: Jam > The Golden Road to Unlimited Devotion > Jack Straw > Easy to Slip > Supplication > Easy to Slip > Lazy River Road > Big Railroad Blues II: K.C. Moan, Friend of the Devil, Victim or the Crime > Even So > October Queen > The Deep End > West L.A. Fadeaway > Jam > Wharf Rat > GDTRFB

Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather Whiplash girlchild in the dark Clubs and bells, your servant, don't forsake him Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart Downy sins of streetlight fancies Chase the costumes she shall wear Ermine furs adorn the imperious Severin, severin awaits you there I am tired, I am weary I could sleep for a thousand years A thousand dreams that would awake me Different colors made of tears Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather Shiny leather in the dark Tongue of thongs, the belt that does await you Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart Severin, severin, s
  6. I love archive.org. I'm listening to 8/28/82, the first West L.A. Fadeaway, and wow .... just, wow.
  7. Piper At The Gates of Dawn should cure that. Especially Astronomy Domine, Lucifer Sam, and Interstellar Overdrive. I haven't touched the stuff in almost 20 years, but my memory is still surprisingly good!
  8. I'll second that. I could talk about this stuff all day (if only I had the time).
  9. Not me. I've never been to a solo Tweedy show. Have to agree with pneyu, though, Lounge Ax shows were great ones. Oh, to elaborate on my picks a little: 3/26/98 - 1st One By One, 1st A Fool Such As I, 1st I Wish My Baby Was Born, 1st I'm Into Something Good, 1st Ingrid Bergman, 2nd Shot In The Arm 10/19/99 - 1st Ashes of American Flags, 1st Heavy Metal Drummer, Last A Fool Such As I
  10. I have to go Old School on this one: 3/26/98 10/19/99
  11. I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.
  12. I think the Betty boards are probably better in general than Bear's tapes, but then, maybe Betty wasn't quite as crispy as old Owsley. Just read that same RS issue, and am sure that's why I had Owsley on the brain (no pun intended). I have to say that, as a strict vegetarian, I think the guy is a complete nut job, but still wish him the best.
  13. Cool! One great thing about the Dead: there was always a tape rolling, and old Owsley in particular made some fantastic recordings. If only the same could be said of the 67-68 psychedelic version of Pink Floyd.
  14. I have not heard a version of Mountains of the Moon with choir girls. Sounds pretty bizarro. I love the version from 3/1/69 best out of the ones I've heard. Nice list, mountain bed (see what happens when you ask an expert!). I'll add a few favorite shows of mine: 5/16/72; 7/18/72 (I really need a copy of this one if any traders out there have it); 5/8/77; 9/23/82 (my first show); 10/9/82 (great early/sloppy Throwin Stones > Touch of Grey). By the way, a great many of these shows can be streamed from archive.org, and you don't have to be a bittorrent expert to do it.
  15. "Mountains of the Moon" is one of my all-time favorite Dead tunes. Here's a nice writeup on it: Annotated Mountains of the Moon
  16. Another vote for Europe '72. It's my favorite live effort of theirs by far, of all the official releases I've heard.
  17. I've said this on the board before, I think, but I am a definite fan of the early '80s incarnation of the Dead. I saw almost all my Dead shows between '82 and '84, and they just smoked. There were ups and downs in most all the shows, but there were a lot of moments when "the music played the band" too. That being said, it's hard to beat the '72 to '74 run. They played some clunkers then, too, but boy did they ever hit a lot of home runs. I think the Chinacat>Rider from Europe '72 is a high point in the history of recorded music in general, not just the Dead's history.
  18. You are correct, sir. Does that invalidate the first part of my answer, though? I seriously do not know.
  19. I think that's probably the short answer right there. Certain CD players just are very "forgiving," and others are not. My wife's car's CD player, for example, will play anything you throw in there, but mine will only play burned CDs if they're FujiFilms made in Japan ... and those sometimes won't start track 1 until I let them spin in silence for about 5 minutes. Even then, once I turn the engine off in the middle of the disc, when I start the car back up, it won't play. Sucks, but until there's a way to put 100 gigs of music on an iPod and load it into my car stereo, I am SOL.
  20. Or you could just buy it from iTunes for a buck, like I did.
  21. I must be one lucky schuck, because I've seen Wilco do Passenger Side at something like 5 out of 8 shows. It's a really fun singalong type song (even if you've never heard it, you could sing along with the refrain). I think it's become a rarity because so many boneheads don't respond to it, since they haven't bought the back catalog. Same with classics like Was I In Your Dreams, OuttaSite and even Via Chicago. Sad. Buy the back catalog, people!
  22. I think this is the first time I have ever had a thread on Via Chicago get resurrected. Nice job, guys. The Zappa Plays Zappa tour has gotten some pretty good reviews from the hardcore fans on zappa.com. If you've got disposable income and they're going to be in your area, it's apparently a nice presentation.
  23. I totally fell for her when I saw them perform Shayla on a TV show. This is a pretty good video of it, too.
