Ryan Adams interview in BlackBook Magazine
Mr. Heartbreak replied to Wendy's topic in Someone Else's Song
I've never cared for Ryan Adams, but I'm glad he finally got sober and wish him all the best. What really blew my mind about that interview, though, was the name Neal Casal. If it's the same Neal Casal I know -- with great albums like Basement Dreams and Fade Away Diamond Time -- I'm saddened to learn he's playing backup in a band like that. I'd rather see Ryan Adams open for HIM! Does anybody know his solo stuff, or even whether it's the same person? -

I just discovered Astral Weeks last year, and I really like it ... especially the first few tracks.

Why Doesn't Anyone Listen to the Kinks?
Mr. Heartbreak replied to Big Perm's topic in Someone Else's Song
Nah. I've always said pretty much the exact same thing about Bruce Cockburn, Brian Eno & Frank Zappa. -
Why Doesn't Anyone Listen to the Kinks?

The version of Lola on there is pretty kickass, too. That, and Celluloid Heroes, were staples of FM rock formatting in CT back in the 70s & 80s. -
I voted for John. For me, the material on Shaved Fish alone far surpasses anything the others did ... especially Imagine, Instant Karma!, Cold Turkey, Whatever Gets You Thru The Night, Mind Games, and, my personal favorite, #9 Dream. "So long ago ...."

Simon & Garfunkel. When my wife and I saw them in 2003, we both spontaneously leapt to our feet at the climax of Bridge Over Troubled Water (along with about 20,000 other people). Nobody's ever made me do that before. And Art Garfunkel is pushing 60! Those guys created magic together.

I don't believe any of them are dead. The phobia about killing off characters on this show is one of its most annoying aspects. I can think of at least 5 characters who appeared to be killed, only to pop up again later, including Sylar, Nathan, Claire ... hell, most of them.

Most interesting places you've traveled to!
Mr. Heartbreak replied to remphish1's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Of all the places I've traveled, I would have to say the most exotic and interesting was Mindanao. -
Happy birthday to Mr. "PM on the Way!"

I guess I just have no sympathy for her, given the way she was misbehaving. And I've seen the video. "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life."

Nope, they do not have One True Vine, but the studio versions of LNGCA and ITTTIG are both available on iTunes. I spend 2 bucks on those plus another 23 on the SBS w/DVD combo, so I'm not spending any money on One True Vine. I'm sure I'll get a copy of it someday.

Again, sounds like a good candidate for tasering. If you're running away from the cops and swearing at them -- as was this girl, just like the guy I'm now referring to exclusively as "Taser Boy" -- you can expect trouble. Watch a few episodes of Cops and you can see why these guys are so quick to use it. They face an ongoing parade of idiots who are drunk, high, belligerent, disrespectful, dishonest, dangerous ... cops almost ALWAYS become deeply cynical, subjected day after day as they are to the worst sides of human nature. Anybody dealing with them on any level should do it strictly from

Hence the phrase "I don't believe."

The way this thread has devolved is pretty absurd. The Band were a decent backing band for Dylan, and they cranked out a few classics of their own, but I don't believe they even belong in the same universe as The Beatles. They are not better, or as good, or even a distant second. I can think of a whole slew of bands -- from the Stones to the Dead to Floyd -- who I would rank way ahead of The Band. Hell, they wouldn't even make my top 100 list.

I was watching this VH1 Classic special on the history of rock this weekend, and it had a funny quote that was attributed to Dylan. Apparently, he literally told the Beatles, "You guys don't have anything to say," and then, after that, John Lennon started writing more "artistic" song lyrics. (And here I thought all this time it was just the killer weed influence.) So, Beatles + Dylan = all the good music that came after.

I'll second that.

Yeah, but even with a couple of noogies and a purple nurple, I think he still would have screamed like a little bitch.
