  1. Well, I would not guarantee IMDB is right...but there is one episode among the final four which lists some old familiar faces. Maybe it was a technical glitch on the site. Either way, I am curious about everything that happens on this show. I haven't been this "into" something since The Sopranos.
  2. Aw, come on, a scary, Dali-esque dream sequence in the desert would be awesome!
  3. Same was true in CT, where I grew up. Stable career, strong union, and good results: kids graduating from public school and going on to Ivy League schools. Contrast that with other states, especially as you head south and west. Politicians are all for vouchers, and want to avoid sending their kids to public schools, most of which are underfunded and, therefore, crappy.
  4. I said, "It's great that you were able to get the help your child needed by pushing for it." What else do ya want? But meanwhile, there are a shit ton of parents out there (not you) whose children are really being little jerks, and yet their parents defend the brats at every turn. Man, whatever happened to "Shut up and listen to your teacher?" It's no wonder kids today have little respect for authority. When I was a kid, I never won in any kind of conflict or disagreement with a teacher, because my parents would always take the teachers' side against me. I wish more parents were like mine; t
  5. Thanks! As a writer, I am sorely tempted, just to make the sale. Little wordy for a bumper sticker, but then I always was verbose.
  6. No, I meant , as in the Schutzstaffel. Not everything is about you, you know.
  7. Could be flashbacks, or something weird: like a dream sequence, a la The Sopranos. Hard to guess at this point. Every time I think I know what will happen next, my expectations are subverted. But I have resigned myself to pretty much giving up on trying to figure things out. It's more fun to just enjoy the ride at this point.
  8. Ever try to deal with 30 six-year-olds at the same time? I think when you say, "For every teacher dedicated to their profession and proficient in their teaching field, there were two who were skating by," that is the textbook definition of "anecdotal." Not really sure how you can know something like this. A big part of the decline for respect of the teaching profession is due to the sense of entitlement among students and their parents, not to mention the rise of parents being "advocates" when their precious Johnny or June is being a total asshole. It's great that you were able to get the
  9. I saw a bunch of condolences posts on the Facebook page, but not sure who really reads that. I have seen Jeff's wife Sue post here, so I guess there is a chance someone from the family will read these. In that case, I hope that Jeff and the family will take some measure of solace from knowing that some of us in the extended "Wilco family" are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers. Peace to all.
  10. What a great show. Found myself forgetting to breathe tonight while watching, just totally on-the-edge-of-your-seat television. By the way, if anyone wants to create a little spoiler for himself, check out the total cast and crew listings on imdb.com. If it's accurate, there will be some interesting characters making an appearance on one of the final four episodes. If you can resist the temptation, well, more power to you!
  11. Never been able to get into Neko Case at all, but I see where she covered a Nico track on her new one. That may be incentive enough right there for me to check her out again.
  12. My mother taught elementary for 38 years in the public school system, one of many reasons I am a proud progressive and staunchly pro-union. The way that works, by the way, is teachers could either 1) contribute to their future pensions via union dues, or 2) contribute to, and later get, Social Security. So my mom, who is now retired, has a pension but will never get SS. I don't often think about buying a gun, but when I hear someone talk about cutting teachers' pensions...well, that's one of the times I do. Teachers work hard and make a lot of sacrifices, and deserve every dime of their pens
  13. Do an image search for Rick Scott and you'll see why.
  14. Here's something for all you Clash fans out there: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/the-clashs-mick-jones-this-is-it-for-me-20130830?utm_source=dailynewsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter
  15. Not so much, at least not in my opinion. The really interesting thing to track down is the full version of Terrapin on the LP Jack O'Roses. Even that is not something you'll likely want to hear much, but it's fascinating to hear all the other verses that didn't make it onto the Dead's version. Bonus points to Hunter for the phrase "ivory wheels on a rosewood track."
  16. I'm saying it could be a bit contagious having a sleazeball dirtbag like Rick Scott for a family friend, and I certainly wouldn't brag about it. Hixter seems like a pretty straightforward guy, so I'm sure he understands I only have his best interests at heart. If the moderators want to delete it, it's certainly not going to make my blood pressure go up. Couldn't care less. I'd tell Rick Scott to his face that I think he's a total douche.
  17. Well, you know what they say: if you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. I always found it kind of funny that he claimed he knew nothing about the greatest Medicare fraud in American history as it happened under his nose while he was the CEO of that company. If you see him, please feel free to tell him that at least one of his constituents consider him the shittiest governor in Florida history. Cannot wait until he is gone.
  18. A family friend? Really? Did he ever mention that he ran biggest Medicare fraud case in U.S. history? I would not vote for that guy for city council, much less governor.
  19. Don't feel too bad: I live in Florida. Rick Scott. You ever see that guy? I'm convinced he's an alien invader.
  20. I think you can download all the Isle of Wight tracks from Amazon for $1.29 each.
  21. No big surprise to anyone on here, but I am sickened and disgusted by this. Sadly, not really surprised either. Our right to assemble has been greatly eroded over time...really, it started with the Chicago Democratic National Convention in '68, where cops were bashing people's heads in. I live in a relatively comfortable suburban area, and typically manage to avoid both crime-ridden areas and those that are being heavily policed for this or that reason....consequently, I often forget that the U.S. is a police state, and has been for quite some time.
  22. The thing with guns is that they are (presumably) often sold between two law-abiding citizens with no need for a paper trail, registration, etc. That is the problem, I think, that KevinG is trying to address. Whereas, if I sell you my car, I have to provide the title, and you have to register it...if we are both law-abiding citizens. A gun and a car can both be lethal weapons if used improperly. So why is a gun no more regulated in private one-to-one sales than, say, a comic book or a piece of Tupperware?
  23. First time I ever heard Hunter, I thought, Okay, now I understand why he needs the Dead to play his songs. Kudos to him for still having the balls to perform. At his best, he sounds like Oscar Brand.
