Not to derail the thread too much discussing wages, but minimum wage only applies to certain conditions. There are many people getting paid cash under the table. If you don't put illegal aliens on your payroll, it's easier to get away with employing them. If they are on your payroll, and you get caught, you got a problem. Food service workers such as waitresses and waiters are NOT entitled to minimum wage under the law, and many restaurants pay workers as little as two dollars an hour. When waitresses say they live on their tips, they're not exaggerating.

He has made similar statements at other shows too. He has a real sense of humor about it. He has also revealed that he doesn't understand the popularity of Magazine Called Sunset. (Dude, it's a cool song...just didn't fit anywhere on the records). At a show in 2010, he added that Magazine was one of the most popular requests online but then no one seems to know it at the shows. He said one of the crew goes on their website and requests it for every city.

McCartney's soundchecks can be, apparently, performances in themselves. I found a copy of one of the shows I went to in May, and included in the download was the soundcheck. The setlist included Hi Ho Silver, Blue Suede Shoes, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On, Sun Is Shining, Every Night, Midnight Special and Bluebird...none of which were played during the show. I would love to have been there early to catch it!

I'm pretty impressed with the vast amount of material Jeff seems to be able to carry around in his head. I suspect they rehearse relative rarities (try that three times fast) before a show, but man! I can remember Bruce Cockburn, who is an incredible guitarist and songwriter, saying he could only remember about 20 of his own songs at any given time. Jeff seems to be able to carry twice that much without batting an eye.

I agree that it's a precious right, which is why I don't want to see legal voters disenfranchised. I have not had experiences like yours, and maybe there are illegal aliens voting. I have no idea. They are undocumented, so if they somehow get registered to vote (not sure how that would happen), there is no way to know how many or how few they are. I suspect that this alone would keep the number very low. Personally, I have lived in my area for about 18 years, but have never had to show photo ID...just a voter registration card. Then again, I don't look like my name could possibly be Carlos Danger, or anything like that, so...

Being in the pit for Wilco, if possible, was the key for me. They are sufficiently popular now that, for the last 7-8 years, I have not been able to get that close to the stage for any of the shows I've seen. It was very cool being on the rail in Tampa. Last time I'd had a similar experience for a Wilco show was 2002!

Many, many people in America today are completely unaware of how serious it is to disenfranchise voters by requiring them to get a photo ID to do something they may have been doing for 40, 50, or even 70 years. In some rural areas, it is a major ordeal to have to drive to the DMV.
