Americana refers to artifacts, or a collection of artifacts, related to the history, geography, folklore, and cultural heritage of the United States. [from Wikipedia] Are we including Latin and South America here? By the way, Rush would be a great band for Wilco to cover. Imagine them rocking on Tom Sawyer?

That's pretty cool, but I wouldn't expect them to do it at every show. There have been many unique events on this tour (Dark Star, Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Waterloo Sunset, etc.), and there have also been plenty of nights where Dylan didn't bring anyone on stage. He hasn't established a pattern and stuck with it. Does anyone else think it's kind of funny that on the AmericanaramA tour, many of the covers have been of artists who were not strictly American? Cinnamon Girl (Neil Young, Canada), Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (Gordon Lightfoot, also Canada), The Band (also partly from Can

Pretty sure they are one and the same. Amazon tends to segregate by category (CD, DVD, mp3), so that doesn't allow for a combo listing. Of course, it's only in the pre-order phase, but if you wait a few weeks they will probably show more info. It obviously not going to be a "Limited Edition" deal like the Dead.net offerings of late.

I'd be interested in picking this up. The Dave's Picks releases, you typically get a 3-disc set for about $30, whereas this is apparently 3 discs plus the DVD for $35? I'll take that deal. Not sure I'd watch the DVD more than once, what with all the full frontal male nudity. That doesn't do much for me.

Looks like Veneta is finally getting the release it deserves: http://www.amazon.com/Sunshine-Daydream-Veneta-27-72/dp/B00E34A9FU/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1374686553&sr=1-2&keywords=sunshine+daydream http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8997011&style=music

Good to know the place filled up a bit. This is a somewhat legendary venue, I think, thanks to maybe the Dead and Animal Collective (?). As for banter, I think they are all keeping it tight to cram in as many songs as possible, which is good. I love Jeff's comments, but not at the expense of another song. Anyway, on Dylan: he has pretty much avoided talking at all during his shows in the past decade or longer. He might say "Thank you" at the end, but that's about it. Of course, when he was joined by Jeff Tweedy and Jim James, he introduced them by name. -

Hmm, looks like they have reverted to their standard sets (no collaborations), with the exception of MMJ playing Don't Do It with Ryan Bingham. Thanks for the list, bbop, always appreciate your reports. -
Section 102 should be great. At least your legs won't be aching like mine were! JAK2112 is right, the sales have been really uneven. Different markets, different results, I guess. I was glad to see Tampa - a "tertiary" market, by some accounts - make such a good showing, with about 8,000 people, from what I read.

Wow. That is shockingly bad. Hope it doesn't get cancelled late in the game. The shows I attended were not sold out, but got good attendance. Tampa was quite full, and although Atlanta wasn't full, I don't think there were empty seats except in the 200s. If I were you, I'd get a spot in the pit. Having a general admission feel for these shows beats every other option, unless you simply cannot stand. I may be pushing 50, but my 5+ hours on the rail were very well spent. Also, when you're right up front like that, you don't really care how many people are there/not there. It's a great rock show.

On Wednesday, July 24th, Wilco covers Get Lucky again, with special guest Pharrell Williams. Mayhem ensues. Emboldened by the crowd reaction, the band release it as a single, thereby scoring their first Top Ten hit. Thousands of dance music fans flock to subsequent Wilco stadium shows, but are shocked and dismayed by songs like Handshake Drugs and Impossible Germany. Soon, the band is back to its hardcore base, playing 2,500-seaters and never sullying our ears with another disco-like production again. Like that?

Who needs the NRA? Check out this PAC. And they're in Ohio! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/22/george-zimmerman-new-gun_n_3634975.html?1374508681

Someone posted on Facebook that the setlist is missing "Genetic Method that flowed into Chest Fever." Anyone know if that's accurate? -
Apparently, even our President's view is somehow "not relevant," or "not appropriate," although you would think that the first African-American President's reflections would be considered important, or at least worthwhile. Behold the comments section on HuffPo after the "Obama Speaks on Zimmerman Verdict" story:

Colin Linden is excellent. I have seen him when he was part of Bruce Cockburn's touring band, and the guy is probably a much better (i.e., low key) fit than Robillard. He can sing, too, so I can imagine him doing harmony vocals.
-
President Obama made some more pertinent remarks on the case today: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/19/obama-zimmerman-verdict_n_3624504.html Probably will not change any hearts or minds. Some will call it powerful and appropriate, the other side will call it pandering and fanning the flames.

Yes, but did anyone get shot?

Let's not blame all of Florida, okay? We have a douchebag far right governor, but we did vote for Obama twice, so it shows there is quite a high level of diversity here. It's also a state with a temperate climate and many beautiful beaches. And there are a lot of cool people here (I couldn't stand to live here if I were the only cool person.) Ass clowns like Zimmerman really shouldn't be allowed to have a CCP, especially with so many past actions involving violence and the law, but what can you do? The prosecution not only overreached by going for murder, they did a lousy job on such a circ

I think Zimmerman's credibility about the whole series of events is seriously in question. If you read the piece of transcript Good Old Neon posted, the sequence of events makes a few things clear: Now he's just staring at me. Now he's walking toward me. Shit, he's running...down towards the other entrance to the neighborhood. [Are you following him?] Yeah. [Okay, we don't need you to do that.] I don't know where this kid is... So we are to believe that TM approached GZ, changed his mind, started walking away, then ran away, then came all the way back and somehow sucker punched him? Stretc

We need to lighten this thread up. Here is how New York City (and CT, I can vouch for us) sees the country. It's supposed to be funny, but it's actually pretty accurate...even when we have been to these places.

Security was extremely tight both at the Tampa and Atlanta shows. In Tampa, the guards patrolled back and forth periodically in the "catwalk" area between the rail and the stage, looking for camera or cell phone violations. There were a couple of incidents where a guard jumped over the rail and into the crowd because of a disruption. Someone in the crowd threw a lit joint or cigarette toward the front of the crowd and got booted. Any time a security guard saw someone filming a song, they would yell, "Hey!" and give a Colbertesque wag of the finger. In Atlanta, it seemed to be even tighter. T
