  1. This is probably the line of thinking many object to the most. Could he not have pistol-whipped him instead? Fired a warning shot? He shot at close range, he shot in the heart, so he only had to shoot once. He shot to kill. As for going about his everyday business, I don't see how that's possible. Listen to what he was saying on the phone, and you'll know better than that.
  2. Now that I made a run to Atlanta to see Wilco, I am getting email about all Atlanta area shows. That's what I get for being a fanatic. Anyway, looks like NMH will be at The Tabernacle in October. I will not be there, but you might want to be, if you live up that way: http://tabernacleatl.com/event/0E004AAA94ECA70F
  3. Unfortunately, not considered relevant to his murder case. However, she had some other things to say about him that were interesting: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2013/05/28/george-zimmermans-relevant-past/
  4. No, no, I meant it as a compliment. Kudos for slipping that in there like that. Very agile.
  5. Thank you for clarifying this. He was also accused of molesting a cousin for a period of time, in addition to domestic violence. He would probably have quite a lengthy rap sheet were it not for daddy being a judge. He is hardly what I would call a "good guy."
  6. For some reason, they are going backwards here. The Another Self Portrait set is on its way, but according to a "Dylan source," there are box sets of Blonde on Blonde and Blood on the Tracks in the pipeline. I'll save my cash for those. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/bob-dylan-revisits-self-portrait-on-next-edition-of-bootleg-series-20130716?utm_source=dailynewsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter
  7. They sounded so mellow to me on record, it makes me think it would be much better, much more dynamic, to see them live...especially with a bass player of John's caliber.
  8. I don't know, I've been pretty impressed with all the good comments about Wilco on the expectingrain.com reviews. Here are a few snippets that made me smile.
  9. Apparently, Dylan is "only" worth about $80 million, whereas Paul McCartney is worth ten times that. Maybe ol' Bob is trying to catch up with Sir Paul.
  10. Thanks for the review. As someone who has more than his fair share of live recordings, I really like to hear about the funny banter. I've been listening to the show from 10 years ago at the Great American Music Hall, where the band played the "goth" version of Heavy Metal Drummer, and that show has some true Jeff Tweedy standup material, including a whole a bit about what the band members were all doing on a break...something about John doing crossword puzzles and waiting for the phone to ring, or something like that. For a guy who was so inarticulate and self-deprecating in his youthful Uncle
  11. She Belongs to Me and Hard Rain were also the highlights when I saw him in Tampa and Atlanta. How did the songs with Jeff and Jim sound?
  12. Whoa, that's incredible! I've seen him touring with Bruce Cockburn back in the day. Pretty wild series of events. And now I owe Wilco Me five bucks. Curse you, Bob Dylan! By the way, someone over on expectingrain.com referred to Jim James as "Mike Stivic."
  13. Wow, this sounds awesome. Thanks for the report. I want soundboards of all these sets!
  14. He also reportedly told Sean Hannity in an interview that Trayvon Martin's death was "God's plan." Not too thrilled with his references to God. As a Florida resident, I would personally like to see him off the street again...sooner rather than later.
  15. I read through that too, and it was really cool. Catch him on a good day, and he is just a cool old dude, friendly to his fans and willing to sign autographs. Good to read.
  16. Believe it or not, I really have not followed the particulars of the case that closely. Is there any independent confirmation of any of these details, or are they all coming from Zim's version of what happened? I am seriously asking, not trying to start a flame war.
  17. Well, he won't be "standing his ground" if someone puts one in the back of his head....which is more likely now than before. And this time, it would likely be an actual thug, not a teenager with Skittles and iced tea. I already feel sorry for both families, but I feel no pity for him, whether he survives long or not. He should have stayed in his car like he did every other time he called the cops.
  18. Here's some more good news about good old George: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/15/george-zimmerman-gun-back_n_3598228.html
  19. I would like to see them live myself, as I think it would give me a real appreciation for their efforts. What I've heard of them on record didn't grab me, but then that's how it was for me with Wilco originally, back in the dark ages. Then I saw them live and they eventually became one of my favorite bands of all time.
  20. Damn, the paranoia in our country right now is just sick. That shit is ridiculous.
  21. Yep. I don't buy the "concern for the child" line either. He may have said that, but I don't buy it. Why not speak with the child? I don't understand the need to call the police. If he's not a racist (and he has black friends and supporters to shore him up), he sure has a profound lack of understanding of what it's like to be black and live in that community. Blacks in a small, mostly-white Southern town like Sanford typically have a serious distrust and/or fear of law enforcement. Hell, I'm white and I have that. If you're really concerned about a child, you don't have cops roll up to him, po
  22. Here is my source: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/03/22/george-zimmerman-s-history-of-911-calls-a-complete-log.html Of course I cherry-picked the half dozen which are African-American males to make my point. But look at the dates: over a period of less than a year. And one of the "suspects" is a child described as "between 7 and 9 years old." In what universe is a 28-year-old man afraid to just simply talk to a 9-year-old child? He calls the cops on the child. Seriously, if a psychological evaluation is not in order, I can only think of one other rational explanation. And it
  23. Interesting article in Slate on the lack of rioting after the verdict, and how much of the phony race war BS was actually ginned up by the right-wing media. http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2013/07/14/george_zimmerman_verdict_why_did_conservatives_expect_violent_riots.html
