Can. Not. Wait. Watching DVR'd episodes from the marathon to tide myself over.

Glad you liked it. I think I am more a Europe '72 guy, but that box was way out of my range.

Mmmm mmmm mmmm mmmm...

And speaking of All Along the Watchtower, I'm listening to the dude who made it really famous: Jimi Hendrix, 1967-09-10 at Akademiska Föreningen, Lund, Sweden.

I suspect you're right on all counts here. I used to have a friend who was a huge fan of 60s era Jefferson Airplane, but couldn't stand the Dead. I thought that was odd. His explanation was that he thought the Dead kept improvising even after they ran out of ideas. Not sure how much early vs. later Dead he'd heard - he was not, after all, a fan - but maybe that is what happened in the later years. Has anyone on here been digging into the May '77 box? I didn't buy it, because I already have soundboards of all but one of those shows. Been listening to Tuscaloosa this morning, and it's good,

Why are you reviving old threads from 2006?

You are exactly correct. Unfortunately, many people are still ignorant enough to believe the "Obamacare is a huge government takeover of healthcare" B.S., and Cruz will later tell everyone, "I stood up against it" when he tries to run for Prez in 2016. It's sad, but we live in a culture where many citizens are profoundly ignorant of the facts or of how government even works. Hence, the appeal of Palin and other troglodytes.

I absolutely loved it. And so much of it made perfect sense, but I hadn't predicted it. Saul and Walt both going with the "vacuum guy" was perfect. And who would have thought Walt would be so lonely and forlorn that he would pay 10K just to hang out with him? What a show. It definitely deserved that Emmy.

Suspense is killing me...

"If Obamacare is just going to be a total debacle, Republicans would let it take effect, ride the catastrophe to huge victories in the 2014 midterms, come back, [and] use their massive Congressional majorities to repeal it...but they don't want to do that. Because the GOP's fear is not that the law will fail, it's that the law will succeed." - Ezra Klein

I can't speak for KevinG, but I sure as hell would. I would throw any politician, Democrat or Republican, under the bus for tying XYZ to the debt ceiling. The debt ceiling is not something to be messed with. They already pulled this crap before and got our credit rating lowered...and, of course, blamed Obama for it. They really are acting like a child holding his breath, that is a perfect metaphor. Even if they do have good motives (which I doubt) or a simple good faith opposition to the ACA (which I doubt), there are ways to get the law overturned. They're called elections.

Cool! I know his work with Miles and Mahavishnu, but have never seen him or even heard the celebrated Spectrum album, so I have no idea what to expect.

Did you just compare guns to golf clubs? I gotta take back my normal comment. Sorry.

Good point. I only meant it in the sense of #1b or #3. No references to sexual gratification were implied.

Dude, you are on a roll today. You need to keep posting like a mofo.

The amount of time and energy you have spent in researching all this gun stuff, and your ownership of a half dozen guns (and heavy participation in other parts of this thread about guns), leads me to believe you are a little paranoid about armed intruders. Sounds like you live in a very suburban, and highly-armed, area, where the likelihood of you ever having to face an armed intruder is very slim. I understand that we live in alternate universes. If you feel I am weird too, for thinking otherwise, you can tell me. I won't take it as an insult. I like being weird. I have a good buddy who has

I apologize if you feel insulted by my opinion. Sincerely. But it does seem that way to me, and several others here. I'm not calling you a gun nut or some other name. And you, understandably, probably feel that people at my end of the spectrum are naive, careless, tempting fate, or some other variation. Honestly, I don't know what. And that's ok. But yeah, that's the way I feel. I am admittedly ignorant about guns, and have little desire to learn more about them than I know. In fact, I have learned much more than I am interested in knowing from this thread alone. I am also baffled by the ide

There is a huge problem there, and that is what I really want addressed on a federal level. If someone who is, like Hixter, a little paranoiac but wants to own half a dozen guns, fine and dandy. I have no problem with that. I think it's a little fetishistic and weird (for me, if I am going to move to another state, I don't want to have to worry about suddenly being a felon overnight, but hey...my simple solution would be to sell the offending guns...problem solved!), but whatever. That is just my feeling. The real problem is that we need a major, constantly-updated database of information

Honestly, I have never owned any firearms, so I don't follow this stuff that closely. That is great news!

I finally broke down and ordered a copy of this from an Amazon seller for $26.70. I didn't want to pay an extra 20 bucks for the bells and whistles on the exclusive version from Dead.net, but I still want the music and the movie. Not sure why sellers are offering it new cheaper than the used copies (which are obviously going to be "Like New"). Maybe they get them wholesale in bulk? Or they are taking a small loss to try to drum up new business. No idea. Looking forward to hearing it. The Bird Song sounds really good on the listening party segment they posted.

I'm sure you're right, but in all honesty, so what? I'm sure the true gun nuts also want it to be mandatory for every head of household to carry a gun - as I already mentioned, this law exists in some places - even though I, for one, don't want a gun. Neither extreme is going to get their way, so us talking about it is nothing more than that: talk. I'm not going to be forced to buy a gun, and you're not going to be forced to give yours up. If existing gun laws change, you won't automatically become a felon. You will have the opportunity to obey the new law by driving somewhere and turning yo

I was psyched to hear the Neil Casal leads on some of the recent Phil & Friends shows. I am a huge fan of his solo material, and though his vocals aren't quite as good on the Dead material as they were on his old solo records, he's still pretty great. He was phenomenal (on guitar) with Chris Robinson Brotherhood when I saw them, and I got him to autograph a couple of his CDs for me afterwards. Really a cool dude.

I'm not taking anything away from anyone. I am just stating an idealistic preference. I know it is not going to happen, because it would be beyond unpopular...which means that the original statement "we [make that "no one"] is coming to take away your precious guns." However, your comment about politicians makes you sound pretty paranoid. Sorry. These politicians just want to get reelected. Most of them will say whatever they think their constituents want to hear. They don't want to disarm anyone. Even Gabby Giffords and her husband own guns. The answer to your question about criminals rem
