It's weird, I used to (around the time of Achtung) think U2 should write soundtracks, because their music is so dramatic. But then came 'The Hands That Built America' and now this. I don't get it.

One of my favorites - there was a stretch of time back there when he was my favorite working writer; for me, his run of Moon Palace, The Music of Chance, Leviathan and Mr. Vertigo is as good as anyone's. Favorites-wise, it's a toss-up between The Music of Chance and Moon Palace. It's kind of befuddling that he's known for Timbuktu, which didn't really move me. I recommend the movie Smoke (and if you like that, its companion piece Blue In The Face, both of which he wrote or co-wrote). I haven't read a newer one of his since The Brooklyn Follies, which I read recently and didn't like. The last '
