  1. The possibilities...! Trying to think of a common denominator band to cover ... War? Sly Stone? Zeppelin? The Stones?
  2. I was about to watch that clip, then I read the comment "you shouldn't give away such spoilers for a movie on just a trailer - many people watching this probably haven't seen the movie yet" - would you agree?
  3. I'd put my Panther alias up against EL FAMOUS' Masked Hater any day of the week.
  4. I really like The Departed, for the record.
  5. For one thing, when Martin Sheen's character asks DiCaprio's character to take on the assignment, he says "do it...for me." It's clear he's supposed to be a father figure, but the emotional component rings empty because we haven't seen any connection between these two before this scene. As far as we know, it's the first time they're meeting. I haven't seen it in a long time, but if I recall correctly, in Infernal Affairs, the close bond between those characters is fleshed out.
  6. There Will Be Blood - second viewing, first time on DVD. Holy Christ does this movie's visual impact get castrated on the small screen.
  7. For inspiring sheer white hot hatred, I'm going with Sheryl Crow's "Soak Up The Sun".
  8. Cadillac Records - a rockin' good time. Reign Over Me - I'm sure there was a good movie in here somewhere at some point, about pain and loss and mental illness and friendship, but it was swallowed by poor casting, a sterile romantic comedy sheen, ineffective pacing and an overwrought, unnecessary courtroom scene. I really thought I'd like this one, but it just proved that some movies are better left unseen, and some screenplays are better left produced by independent filmmakers. Up In The Air - hard to tell so far. It could end up forgettable or it will stick with me. Experience tells me that
  9. I've always pronounced the sequel to 2001 as "two thousand and ten" so I'm sticking with that.
  10. I'm still amazed by how thoroughly Kim Thayil managed to pretty much disappear after Soundgarden. Thought he'd be doing all sorts of (higher profile) stuff over these years.
  11. This one let me down - I grew more tired of his voice as it went along. Shame, because I'm a huge Kavelier & Klay fan. I think memoir-type stuff from men who seem to have the same sensibilities as me I tend to write off as annoying (probably because it's all too familiar-sounding).
  12. "We" need something new in a genre you pay no attention to? Seriously, I don't understand why you and (especially) Mr. Heartbreak even open this thread, nevermind post in it. It's like me going into a thread about a new Jay Farrar project and saying he's gotta do something different, when in reality I don't own a thing the man has produced.
  13. Fun to watch, but good lord the melodrama.
  14. Sad to hear. He did what he had to do, I guess. I saw him open for Wilco. He was on Fresh Air with Terry Gross just a month ago, and hearing him talking about his health costs was awful. I think this is the same piece: http://www.npr.org/t...oryId=120978388 RIP
  15. The only thing more boring is people complaining about it. Talk about what teams you want to - no one's stopping ye.
  16. It's just I would love to hear the Big Show guys' heads esplode.
  17. I've been meaning to choose by scrolling through the list of all films released in the decade, but I've decided to wing it. If I forgot a great one that I would put in my top ten, then it didn't really deserve a spot here I guess. I've added one thing I love about it to each title. You Can Count On Me - the last scene Almost Famous - Cameron Crowe O Brother, Where Art Thou? - tree limb to the head picnic Once - Marketa's English There Will Be Blood - dinner napkin over Daniel Plainview's face Let The Right One In - the cold Awesome; I Fuckin' Shot That! - attending a concert in fifty seats
  18. They should let Adam Yauch edit that together.
  19. They're really good - the album 20/20 in particular.
