  1. I am so sorry to hear this. I hope it results in a move upward into a better job. How crappy of them to give you no notice!
  2. There's some more Tweedy-related stuff coming too. Ohhhh! SO close!!! By the way, see you at the Vic, Tyler! How can you possibly be Texan without a cowboy hat? Bid!
  3. Yeah, it's "Out in the Storm" that got me, too. What an amazing, satisfying album. Best of all, the songs translate beautifully live. Our set was about half Out in the Storm. Brass Beam sure sounded great. And Silver. And Recite Remorse worked really well as an opener!
  4. My friend Chris Castaneda, who organized the Scott McCaughey Benefit Show at the Hideout in Chicago, is now in the ongoing process of offering auction items to benefit Scott's medical fund. Item one might catch your interest! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeff-Tweedy-Wilco-Stetson-6X-Open-Road-Silverbelly-Cowboy-Hat/253484234647 Jeff Tweedy Open Road Silverbelly Cowboy Hat?!!!!! I would look so nice in that!

  6. These moments are so hard...they really solidify your loss, somehow. But recognizing what he was to you can be a sweet insight, almost like him talking in your ear. It does get easier over time. Talk to him about the game if you want to! I'll bet in your mind you can hear his answer. It's 5 years since I lost my dad, but we still "talk" sometimes. I'll bet your dad will be there in spirit whenever you watch a game.
  7. Waxahatchee and Jawbreaker
  8. This business couldn't miss! Do it.
  9. Today (well actually 2 days ago) I learned that I'm going to be a grandmother in November. I never have been before so I hope I don't blow it. Brennan and Mariela are giddy with excitement...so cute to watch.
  10. These all sound fabulous.
  11. How like Wilco to do that! And how thoughtful of your former student. Happy 50th! A well-done surprise party can be such a joy...it sounds as if you were thoroughly celebrated!
  12. ...hang on to your hats and small pets! This "storm cyclone" sounds like climate-change-terrorism. Scary levels of intensity! Please take careful care of yourselves and don't do anything reckless! Stay safe at home if that's an option. Check in if you can and let us know how you're doing! Love from southern California where, if it's any comfort, it also looks like it might rain. Probably not like the northeast though.
  13. Saw Basia Bulat tonight. I never tire of her and her gorgeous, powerful voice. She was wonderful.
  14. I don't know if you've seen this graduation speech he wrote awhile back....I always thought it was one of the best graduation speeches I've ever heard. https://6thfloor.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/07/31/george-saunderss-advice-to-graduates/
  15. I'll bet he was interesting! How nice that you were able to get an autographed copy.
  16. The shooter also asked the son what classroom he was in at the end of the school day. Now that may mean he intended to stay away from where the son was, and spare his life....but it could as easily mean Cruz intended to seek him out as a special target. The son reportedly connected the dots when the shooting began, and got far away from the classroom he had told Cruz he'd be in. He survived. (No thanks to his parents)
  17. But you know what, I don't think we are. I think the majority of Americans are pretty good, decent people. The problem is the amount of money and influence of the NRA. WE can't give up. Many big fights were only won in gradual increments, until finally the tide was turned. Then, looking back, we see that it was always inevitable. But it is very hard to stay committed until the tide turns. Stay outraged. Resist and fight the NRA and its power over our government.
  18. Yeah, this action terrifies me. If this is how trump defines winning, he's right...I'm sick of it.
  19. That was one helluva launch, and the thought of that red Tesla floating through space is Repo-Man-level cool. Well crap. More and more this native Californian realizes why Mom and Dad left Wisconsin and Minnesota for warmer climes. Sorry about your mailbox.
  20. This is so well put. Especially that last line. This time feels slightly surreal!
  21. Everything going on right now is disturbing as hell.
