  1. I am heartbroken today. Having a very hard time keeping the faith and forging ahead. Will this finally be the attack that jolts our government into addressing our gun issues? The shooter had no trouble at all buying these massively destructive guns. These aren't the sort a person needs for hunting (unless it's humans) or for personal safety. GOD DAMN the NRA. Put on some Tom Petty, loud, and let yourself cry.
  2. Heartbreaking on an already heartbreaking day. Rest in peace, Tom.
  3. Well, the text has been adjusted and I took the thread title as "a question posed to the Via Chicago community". But yeah, the cacophony pretty much gives it away.
  4. Hahaha, what a great story!
  5. Well who knows, maybe we've given Jeff an idea! Wouldn't that be weird to hear Summer Teeth done up that way!
  6. Forward is always the best direction. Go Craig!
  7. Am I the only one confused here? (Well then, business as usual!) In your opening post you said Summerteeth, so I thought we were talking about that song. But it appears we are actually talking about Via Chicago, right? And you meant Summerteeth the album. I do love the current take on it!
  8. Omigosh, Mountainbike, that was one of the most heartening things I have ever read! I'm so glad you and your family are ok, and so happy you are going to give yourselves a Wilco show! I marvel at your perspective. I guess when you face losing everything, even those you love, it becomes crystal clear what is genuinely important. I wish you the most joyous Wilco concert, and I hope your son will be dazzled (of course he will be!) and really "gets" why this music, and this sense of community matter so much. Wilco will love you, baby!
  9. Watching the draft lottery on tv was surreal. Thank God for your brother's good fortune.
  10. I'm mesmerized by the Vietnam story, but it's hard to watch. I'm old enough to remember all those caskets coming off planes on the evening news each night, old enough to remember wondering if my 13 and 14 year old brothers would eventually be sent off to die. I'm so struck by how the divisions we had then ("America - Love it or Leave it!" vs. the pacifist hippie contingent) continue to divide us even today. So many echoes of the past rearing their ugly, unresolved heads today.
  11. I was so mad at myself for missing Kevin's pop-up...I arrived just moments too late! Dammit. I saw a bit of video from it though (which only made me kick myself harder, it looked fabulous!) Gary, I would LOVE to see your photos! Gorman, the only good thing about being late for Kevin's pop-up is he was rushing over to help with Waxahatchee's pop-up, so at least I got directed to the right place! I didn't know there had been a problem with where it was supposed to be. I did think that enormous echo-y space was an odd choice for her delicate voice...with no amplification yet! But we got there ear
  12. I'm loving seeing the surge in interest and backers, Gorman! And you have dug out some very cool rewards! I want them all. C'mon folks, let's help wrap this up...7 days to go, wonderful rewards as well as a thank you to YOU in the credits...let's get this film made! You don't need to commit to vast sums, even a few dollars will help reach the kickstarter goal. Although of course vast sums would be appreciated too, from any of you who have vast sums to spare. You can get yourself some truly memorable bits of Wilco history, as well as having the satisfaction of knowing you helped to birth t
  13. Well Diane, full-disclosure, I do have a pop gun with a cork end...got that while traveling to SSF 2 on our cross-country trip. But no worries, my aim is lousy.
  14. What? I have no clue about this, Chris! Anyway, wonderful to see you and hear what a fantastic show you got! Paul, brilliant and engaging write-up, as always. I can imagine myself there from your description.
  15. Ah, that looks good! I'd like to read it. I loved Joe Manning's book, "Disappearing into North Adams". That area has a fascinating history. Speaking of Solid Sound, I saw Kevin Morby 2 nights back. Afterwards I started to walk up to Kevin's guitarist, Meg Duffy. We'd met before, briefly, once when Kevin opened in L.A. for Wilco in Sept. '16 and again, equally briefly, at Solid Sound. So I wasn't sure she'd remember me. But as I approached and she saw me, her face lit up and she called out, "Wilco mom!" Hey, I'll take it, I've been called worse. Meg Duffy is a goddess by the way. Damn sh
  16. Spitty too, isn't it? Sparks popping?
  17. Kevin Morby was on fire last night in L.A.! The smallish venue (about 600) was packed to the gills, and I'm pretty sure everybody went away happy! He flat-out dazzled...started with a stunningly gorgeous "City Music" and proceeded to play nearly every song on my wishlist! I didn't stop smiling for about 6 hours, from the show's start until I finally managed to fall asleep (at home). He just keeps getting better, and the band is magnificent. They play like a single creature. See him now if you have the chance, because I think his venues are about to get much bigger. I should give a proper r
  18. What book is that from, Gorman? Great photo! It's a bit eerie, to step into the past of a place we all feel so connected to in the present.
  19. I'm breathing easier but I'd sure love to hear Collins or Murkowski or Paul announce a similar decision. Still, whew. :whewGreat news.
  20. So has everybody put in a few minutes today to call some senators? This foul Graham-Cassidy bill needs to be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail. Let me save you some steps...here are some pivotal senators for you to call. Susan Collins (202) 224-2523 Lisa Murkowski (202) 224-6665* John McCain (202) 224-2235 Rand Paul (202) 224-4343 * Murkowski's phone line is so impacted that you probably won't get through. Better to send an email to her website. It doesn't matter that you aren't their constituent, if you're not. This is an issue that will devastate the American people,
