  1. Jeez, Doug, be careful, be safe. I hear the Walmarts are a real zoo right now so be careful there too! Do check in with us. What a mess the country (world?) Is right now. Quite apart from the political lunacies, we've got half the country on fire and the other half submerged. Anybody seen 4 horsemen?
  2. Fresh from the horrors of Harvey, the country now needs to brace for Hurricane Irma, which has just been declared a category 5. It is starting to appear as if Florida will be a likely landfall. All of you in that direction, take good and prudent care of yourselves. Get out if it seems advisable, and if it's possible for you. Members, check in with us when you can. Prayers for Florida, but I am still privately hoping that Irma will do a surgical strike on Mar-a-Lago, and then pivot and leave.
  3. Didn't someone here read Ready Player One? I tried to find that post but don't see it. Without any spoilers, how did you like it, whoever you were?
  4. Thanks Mike. A friend of mine is dying to hear it again. I'd like to as well! Sigh.
  5. Can't seem to find a copy of this one although I though it had been recorded. Anybody? I'll trade you something nice!
  6. Glad you and yours are ok, Neil. Stay safe.
  7. It's mind-boggling. Did you see the picture of senior citizens sitting in waist-deep water, waiting to be rescued? Bad Katrina-esque vibes from that one! Here's a link: http://www.snopes.com/2017/08/27/nursing-home-residents-rescued-harvey-floodwaters/
  8. I am getting such bad vibes about this one...in fact I have for days. While driving back down to southern California from Oregon after our eclipse trip, we talked about this approaching hurricane, and I felt the same sick foreboding that I had felt when Katrina was approaching. I hope I'm wrong. I hope this threat turns out to be a false alarm. But if not, I hope everyone can keep themselves safe. Any VC members out there in Harvey's path, please check in when you can and let us know you are alright! Now if only Shitler had appointed a director for FEMA...!
  9. Happy 50th birthday to a national treasure. We sure do love you!
  10. This book was a lot of fun! Moore always is.
  11. Lammy, I'm really sorry to hear this. Not the least of things is the fact that her Resist sticker has made your wife feel partially "To blame" for the attack. Who knows, it may be nothing more than some punk teenagers out having fun...nothing at all to do with politics....but it sucks that you are left wondering if that was the motivation. Hi Gary, I can't believe your boy is so grown! In my mind he'll always be about the age in the photo!
  12. I hear you, but somehow I feel that those kids are mostly followers, not budding leaders. I think we are seeing the dying gasp of this kind of thinking, and once the older supporting generation passes, these young ones won't be motivated enough to carry it on. The world is changing. But I realize I speak on the side of hope. We need to do all we can to teach peace and inclusiveness, and shun those who want to hate. I guess only time will tell if we humans are smart enough to get beyond this tiny-minded thinking.
  13. It's now almost 2 months past SSF5, but in this mess of a world, my heart keeps swinging back to that weekend and the pure magic that humanity can have when it loves itself. Too corny? I don't think so. Solid Sound lifted me up like nothing else has, and still leaves me dazzle-eyed and smiling to myself when I picture some small moment there. Almost 2 months, yet it feels like maybe a week ago. Now it may be that I'm just that disorganized...a distinct possibility, with me...but I think the real reason is that these moments of pure love and happiness are really just that indelible. Burned on
  14. I'm really liking this song! Need to spend some headphones time, to catch all the lyrics. That "thin-skinned" line is brilliant. Somewhere Woody Guthrie is smiling at his legacy...through bands like Wilco.
  15. Well put, Doug. It is taking too long, but as I said elsewhere, Trump is coming down like a confederate statue. The time of old white racists is almost past.
  16. Our VC member poppydawn (Robin) lives in Belleville, IL where Jeff grew up and where his dad still lived. Today she was able to visit during visitation hours at the funeral home. She conveyed all our love to the Tweedy family, and signed the guestbook to represent all of us here at Via Chicago. May all our love carry the family through these dark, sad days. Thank you, Robin, for serving as our messenger and delivering our hugs. From Bob's obituary: Memorials may be made to http://The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society (Team Susan Miller Tweedy) or Belleville Area Humane Society. Condolences may
  17. Sounds like a glorious night!
  18. Sadly, Bob died today. Our deepest sympathies.
  19. My heart aches with the news. Rest in Peace, Bob, and peace and every blessing to all those you loved, and who love you. The world is sadder without you here. Deepest sympathy to Jeff and his family.
  20. They had gone gambling together. Afterwards, he told Jeff he really ought to write a song about it. Thank you, Bob! It's a great song!
  21. How could we help but love the father and grandfather of many wonderful Tweedys, and the inspiration behind "Casino Queen"? Love and peace to him and his beloved family.
  22. Jeff's dad is ailing. Susan has posted on facebook asking for all the love, good wishes, and prayers you can spare. So please turn on those awesome Via Chicago vibe machines and let's get some healing waves flooding toward the midwest! Love to Bob and the entire Tweedy clan from all of us here!
