  1. I made myself read the whole of Infinite Jest a couple of years ago. It did have some good moments, but I remember finishing it and sincerely wishing I had spent the time instead on several other books. It was pretentious in the extreme, to me, and often horribly disjointed. Not an enjoyable read. Afterwards, the sensation was as though I had managed to slog through some bizarre lit class magical realism novel. One that went on far too long. That said, peace to those of you who adored it, and I know there are many. It sure wasn't my cup of tea, and I remember very little of the plot. I ha
  2. It's been said before and I'll say it again: "Where there's a Wilco, there's a way!" Sunday or not, you're in for a wonderful time, and your wife is a lucky woman. What a great surprise to spring on her!
  3. Nope, I never saw that. Great book. Nice of you to have been a one-man lending library!
  4. I think, unfortunately, that the lack of royalties falls on the side of "truth", although maybe only the principals know the full story. I hope Garth's friends (and wife?) can pull him out of this one and maybe help look after his interests. He doesn't seem to be personally capable of handling his finances and belongings...I wonder whether his wife is a similar personality, or could step into that role of assistant? Yay for the road named for Levon! I'm sure he is beaming from heaven over that sweet honor. (And Richard Manuel could have driven the entire 3-mile stretch of the Levon Helm Memo
  5. Plenty of Joe fans here. Nice photo, thanks for sharing.
  6. Mavis!!! I'm only about halfway through the book, but so far Levon's had virtually nothing but praise for Robbie. What scant criticism there's been has been levelled about equally between all the members, including Levon himself. There's no sugarcoating, but Levon writes with real generosity of spirit and empathy. We'll see whether that changes in the book's second half.
  7. That was wonderful. I'm currently reading Levon's autobiography, "This Wheel's on Fire". What a story! Wow. Highly recommended! I'll have to watch that.
  8. What a bizarre story. It's not like she strolled into a private mansion.
  9. I love how everybody supports everybody else in getting there. rhino4evr, it will all be worth the effort! I would encourage you to stay for Sunday if at all possible - at every SSF I get turned on to some bands/musicians I had been unfamiliar with, and I'm always glad I was. So think about it, if your budget will allow for that. Sunday has a very nice, relaxed vibe to it as well. Good luck finding a sitter!
  10. Yeah, I was thinking Dash 7....though some people adore this song. I seem to remember that Jeff said this song is simply in an uncomfortably low register & so is difficult to sing.
  11. Lotti, I love you, and I look forward to hearing any replies Susan may have. Welfare! Sounds like an incredible auction. Those of you with musical talent, go get it!
  12. Sounds like a young band with promise. I liked the 3 tracks you suggested.
  13. I should read that. It sounds powerful. My dad was in the Pacific Theatre...he was one of the paratroopers who jumped on Corregidor to retake it from the Japanese. His stories were amazing.
  14. Agreed. I had the greatest talk with him & his girlfriend after seeing GP & the Rumour in L.A. in December. I introduced my son Brennan who had just walked up, and said my kids had grown up listening to the Brinsleys...Bob looked Brennan over and commented, "Well, you seem to have turned out alright, anyway." He was incredible in Graham's set. The boy's still got it. You're going to love these. An apple Aday keeps the doctor away, if you aim well enough.
  15. My band. Love them. And that's still the only (and real) version of "What's So Happy 'Bout Peace, Love and Understanding" to me. Love the corny synchronized guitar moves between Nick Lowe and Ian Gomm. Yet it is Billy Rankin.
