That was stunning. Thile and the band really get the song. Thank you so much for sharing that! I'll be watching it several more times. Really moving.
-
Thile is a local boy, from Idyllwild...you probably knew that. I met him once after a show in St. Louis, out back of the venue in a drizzling rain. He was just as he appears, approachable and friendly and a big kid at heart. I loved Nickel Creek but haven't followed him in Punch Brothers. Clearly that needs to change! Sometimes there are just too many good bands to follow them all. A wealth of musical goodness. Keep posting the great videos, Anthony.

That was freaking adorable.

I loved "Skinny Legs" and "Jitterbug Perfume". Still need to read "Still Life With Woodpecker". Thanks for reminding me.

I loved this interview but I have to agree that both the "impotence" and "puppet master" bits were odd. Yes, I think they were after "impetus". And I doubt Mavis is anybody's puppet. That girl has her own mind for sure! More importantly, I'm going to hit Lou Malnati's next time I'm in Chicago. Deep dish, cheese only. You're all welcome to join me.

What a heartbreaker. Rest in peace, Jason. Join up in that amazing band heaven's got.

I love Mark Twain. Also Jane Austin. Both, in very different ways, are wickedly witty observers on the human condition.
-
Yes, that's a great thread!
-
A bit mellow for my tastes but undeniably lovely. I'll have to listen more.

Well since you put it that way, Mr. Heartbreak.... Johnny’s in the basement Mixing up the medicine...

Can't I even leave you people in charge of a simple ditty?
-
Whenever we go out...

No, it's definitely Schmidt, I even looked it up. Now, once more with feeling, and only one line apiece! Ready? JOHN JACOB JINGLEHEIMER SCHMIDT I wonder who'll get to dahdahdahdah dahdah dah?
-
His name is my name too.

Dagwave, if we someday have the chance to meet, you must regale me with this story. SSF3 perhaps? Hope to see you there.

I'm scribbling these down on my Want-to-Read list, thank you! And this thread is reminding me of several other authors of whose writing I want to read, or read more. We have a pretty well-read community here on VC!

Damn. I hope she makes it home. I've read nothing of Lehane's, where should I begin?
-
Lotti's story is both a sad and a triumphant one. But only she can properly tell it.
-
Oh, I forgot Richard Russo! I still have books of his to read, lucky me. Did Dennis Lehane ever find his missing doggie?
-
Lotti is this little community's odd but beloved relative. I love when she comes to our parties and get togethers. In lemon flares and sequins.
-
Also, George Saunders!
-
Absolutely not.

This one's a spin-off from the now reading thread. What authors have you read who are so important & enjoyable to you that you would read almost anything they wrote? Off the top of my head: T.C. Boyle, Louise Erdrich, and Alice Hoffman. John Irving too.

I made myself read the whole of Infinite Jest a couple of years ago. It did have some good moments, but I remember finishing it and sincerely wishing I had spent the time instead on several other books. It was pretentious in the extreme, to me, and often horribly disjointed. Not an enjoyable read. Afterwards, the sensation was as though I had managed to slog through some bizarre lit class magical realism novel. One that went on far too long. That said, peace to those of you who adored it, and I know there are many. It sure wasn't my cup of tea, and I remember very little of the plot. I ha
