  1. I doubt I will ever vote for a Republican, at least in the foreseeable future. I have voted for third party candidates in local elections several times, but voted Democratic in the two Presidential elections that I've voted in. I would vote for a third party candidate in a Presidential election under certain circumstances.
  2. It's true. Obviously a tough spot for them to be in, but they came back from 3-1 to win the ALCS just last year.
  3. I don't think it's that uncommon nowadays. Last year's NL champ Colorado Rockies were 76-86 in 2006. The 2006 AL champ Detroit Tigers were an abysmal 71-91 in 2005. The 2003 World Series champ Florida Marlins were 79-83 in 2004. The 2002 World Series champ Anaheim Angels were 75-87 in 2001. The 1998 NL champ San Diego Padres were 76-86 in 1997. The 1993 NL champ Philadelphia Phillies were a tremendously shitty 70-92 in 1992. The 1991 World Series champ Minnesota Twins were 74-88 in 1990. The 1991 NL champ Atlanta Braves were 65-97(!!!!!!!) in 1990. That's just the ones that went to the Wor
  4. I saw the Pixies twice on the reunion tour. The first show was fantastic, the second not as great but still pretty good.
  5. There's also a certain amount of simple practicality element to this as well, aside from the question of fairness. At this particular juncture, the current taxation system cannot support our two wars, and there is not enough money to address vital needs, such as infrastructure. Simply put, we need a tax and spend system that will actually work in such a way that our government will have the resources it needs to perform its vital functions without destroying the taxpayer's ability to survive within their means. Ending the wars will free up a lot of money eventually, but in the mean time, we
  6. They're still way better than the Fox team.
  7. Sort of annoyed by how at least 2 of the TBS guys tonight (Harold Reynolds post-game, but also one of the guys during the game too -- don't remember which one) insisted that "If we told you this score before the game, no one would have expected it to be the Rays winning it" or something to that effect. Why is it so surprising? The Rays had the better record in the regular season, and the teams essentially split their head-to-head regular season series, so why would "no one" expect the Rays to win this game? That being said, TBS's coverage still beats the shit out of Fox's baseball coverage
  8. A question to anyone who says they oppose redistribution of wealth: How do you feel about the redistribution over the last 8 years of wealth from the middle class to the upper class? Am I to assume that this is okay?
  9. You're right, they don't, but in this case the Rays may be the better team. Garza is owning them tonight.
  10. My bad. In that case, nice retro-prediction.
  11. I was responding to claims that people may vote multiple times and was simply pointing out that requiring ID to vote would not guarantee that people wouldn't be voting more than once. I don't think that voter fraud of this kind is widespread enough to matter though. I assume that you knew that and are just trying to antagonize me though, so props to you.
  12. As if fake IDs aren't easy to get if you really want one.
  13. Yes, that guy filled out 73 voter registration cards. I would still like to see how that translates into voting 73 times, or even twice. That's not how it works.
  14. Please, one hypothetical example of how this is even theoretically possible. Thanks.
  15. But she wasn't just taking her kids to a hockey game, she was making a political appearance.
  16. It was right after I, or someone else, said that people weren't entitled to believe something that is false.
  17. Sure, but aren't we entitled to correct them when their belief is in something demonstrably false? To use your own example, were abolitionists wrong to speak of the immorality of slavery, since it was perfectly legal at the time?
