New and Improved 3-ply election thread...
MrRain422 replied to John Smith's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Palin met with some foreign leaders at the UN. Afterwards, a reporter asked her what she had learned from the meetings, and the McCain people said no, she can't answer that and shuffled her away from the press. Seems like a pretty innocuous question. Pretty sure the press would have been satisfied with a trite response so I'm not sure the point of shielding her from that kind of questioning. I really think that McCain is planning to keep her guarded from real scrutiny all the way until the election. At first I assumed there would just a few weeks before we saw her all over the place, as -

Bush does have power though, even if his knowledge of it is questionable. -

I feel as though it's entirely possible that Palin has put zero thought into foreign policy before last month -- which is fine, foreign policy isn't a big concern to the mayor of Wasilla, and only a little bit more of a concern to the government of Alaska. I just would rather that they said, no, she doesn't have foreign policy experience but she's learning very quickly, instead of taking me for an idiot who thinks that the fact that Russia can be seen from some remote Alaskan island that Palin has never visited counts as some sort of foreign policy credential. -

McCain's campaign is such a disaster that I really don't see how he can possibly lose at this point. -

It's pretty doubtful. Greenwald likes dudes, and I would imagine has some taste. -

Oh wow. Palin may also suspend her campaign. Because America needs her to fix a problem that she has no power over nor any knowledge of. -
I did not see the article you're referencing, but I think this has been a problem for quite a while. The reason the Yankees were able to get so much taxpayer money is because so many other teams have gotten tax money for their stadiums in the last 10-15 years. It's become standard, even though in every single instance, it doesn't benefit the city in the way that was promised -- the only one really benefiting is team ownership.

Colbert's speech at the White House Correspondence Dinner is still the greatest thing that has ever happened in entire universe. -
Looks like the Tigers are ending the season the same way they started it.

Yeah, Mykonos is my #1, followed by English House.

Their two best songs are on the EP, FWIW.

Yeah, Greenwald deserves to be read daily. -
Maybe Derek Jeter would like to watch the playoffs on TV with me.

It doesn't include Kerry's wife's with his. For both Kerry and McCain, items owned in the name of the spouse or children are listed only at "$1 Million or more" on their official list of assets, so the actual amount is likely much higher for both of them (and I assume for several other people on the list). I'm not necessarily suspicious of wealth, but I think it's good to know who is paying our representatives in government.

http://www.rollcall.com/features/Guide-to-...y%22&page=1 The article goes into detail about where each member made their fortune, but for those of you who don't feel like reading, here's the list: 1. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) - $230.98 million 2. Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) - $225.96 million 3. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) - $160.62 million 4. Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) - $80.40 million 5. Rep. Robin Hayes (R-N.C.) - $78.96 million 6. Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.) - $65.49 million 7. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) - $55.33 million 8. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) - $52.34 million

How do you know that hipsters bought all the tickets? Because they have the same taste in music as you? In which case, you're probably a hipster too and don't even know it.

This whole season wasn't a reason to be legitimately happy?

I think it was me, actually.

Now that you mention it I can see it, but that symbolism didn't occur to me at the time. I think he really just needed something to replace the normal slide show he has behind him, and probably just walked by the fruit market on North Ave. 2 blocks away and thought he'd feed the crowd. I could be wrong of course -- it may have been completely intentional and just went over my head. I've been a big fan of Tim Fite for a while now -- his lyrics and arrangements are just so smart and layered.

Tim Fite gave me a slice of watermelon.
