  1. I'm not accusing the NY Times of cherry picking quotes, I'm accusing you of attributing too much meaning to those quotes. Yes, the Republican majorities were small, but you said "Republicans weren't the ones in charge" which is false. Frankly I think there's enough blame to go around for both parties, but I think Obama's proposed economic solutions make more sense than McCain's insistence that the economy is doing great.
  2. Glad you stayed safe from Ike -- you definitely had more important things to worry about than my covers. I'm glad you liked them. "Radio Radio" was with a band that I haven't played with since '05, but if we ever get back together I'll crank my guitar up a bit more.
  3. Wow that's a hell of a slate of guitarists for one night.
  4. That article has some nifty quotes from Dems, but it was in fact Republicans in charge of both houses of Congress in September '03.
  5. And he'll have all of October to savor it. *rim shot*
  6. What evidence do you have that Obama is a Marxist?
  7. Unless you buy the argument that it isn't really the same stadium that Ruth and Gehrig played in, which is sort of half true.
  8. But the people have a role to play in government, and that is to hold our official to account for those things that weren't so good and to demand better. As a nation, we haven't done that. The American people are not responsible for our government torturing prisoners, for example, but we are responsible for not demanding that those responsible are held responsible.
  9. He said after 9/11, not on 9/11. The first responders did a great job, but that's not we were talking about.
  10. In what respect did we get our shit together after 9/11? By waving the flag a lot? Our response to it was passively allow our own freedoms to be curtailed, as well as a whole plethora of other reforms that have nothing to do with terrorism under the guise of protecting us after 9/11, and to attack a country that had nothing to do with the attack on us without really taking of the people who did attack us. That's not a nation with it's shit together, sorry.
  11. The last 8 years make me wonder if this is really true anymore. Most of the Obama-out-to-destroy-Israel rumors decended from the Obama-is-a-secret-Muslim rumors. Nothing in his voting record or policy proposals suggest he's anything other than more of the same when it comes to beefing up Israel's military power, which actually sort of bothers me.
  12. I like Yost but don't think it was too dumb to fire him -- as Bjorn said, this is their second straight late season dive. Plus, Yost has a reputation as a good guy for young players but a little too complacent with the veterans. I'm sure Sveum can do just as well.
  13. Yeah, not a lot of easy wins for Michigan this year. They'll still win a bulk of their games though. McGuffie is already my new favorite Wolverine.
  14. OSU could contend, but I think Wisconsin is going to win it. Michigan will be no higher than 4th, but quite possibly lower.
  15. UniWatch speculated that, since following the games in Milwaukee the Astros go on a road trip, they wore the grays so they wouldn't have to bring an extra set of pants along with them.
  16. Obama was on Oprah's show before he announced that he was running for President. And yeah, she campaigned with him, but to my knowledge (I don't watch her show), she hasn't used her show to push his candidacy.
  17. They're protesting a hurricane? Good luck with that, 'Stros.
  18. I don't know -- sure, McCain would (probably?) help al Qaeda recruitment, but I think he's also more likely to maintain or increase American military presence in the middle east, which isn't really what al Qaeda wants. They wanted to get us tied up in a war we can't get out of, which happened, but long term don't they want American military out of the middle east, closing the military bases in Saudi Arabia and backing off from our protection of Israel?
  19. Well, in this country there is a long history of "monkey" being used as a racial epithet towards black people. That being said, I doubt that's what the makers of this ad had in mind. I don't think Americans could make that ad for American audiences without being aware of the racial implications here, but I don't see why Japanese advertisers would necessarily be aware of that particular aspect of American racial history, nor are the Japanese people viewing the ad necessarily aware of it (nor should they necessarily care -- I mean American advertisers don't usually check to see how their ads w
  20. ESPN showed the ninth inning (cut away from Tigers/White Sox), and I noticed that both teams were wearing their alternate jerseys (red for the 'Stros and blue for the Cubbies) and both were wearing the road gray pants. I imagine UniWatch will comment on it tomorrow. I don't think I've ever seen a game where both teams wore road uniforms, although it makes sense here, even though technically Houston was the home team.
  21. I don't think al Qaeda even knows who she is or really cares. They probably don't give a fuck who's in charge here. It's the policy they care about.
  22. Over the attorney firings, the Valerie Plame affair, the Don Siegelman thing, the White House e-mail scandal, improper use of government resources for political purposes, contempt of congress, etc etc etc etc etc
  23. It was converted to M4A from WAV using iTunes, so that definately should work for you.
