  1. So you think it's acceptable to shoot down a bill based on its sponsors rather than its merits?
  2. I got the point, I just disagree. All regular season games count the same.
  3. Blaming Pelosi's speech is just plain dumb. The Republicans who are complaining about it are basically saying, yes, there's a crisis, yes, we need to do something about it ASAP, yes, we think this bill was good, but we voted against it because our feelings are hurt. What sort of basis is that for a vote? I have mixed feelings about the bill anyway. I don't think I'm upset it didn't pass. But that reasoning is just stupid, and it certainly isn't putting country first.
  4. There's always his Wikipedia page as a starter, with lots of good stuff in the references and external links. No, Obama accepted no nomination at Ayers house, though Ayers did host a campaign event at his home during Obama's first run for the Illinois state Senate.
  5. I don't think Ramirez is skilled enough to have a great career, but he had a very good season and I think deserves the award. It may have been luck, but the results are the results. And my initial pick of Webb had zero to do with wins -- I looked at WHIP, K/BB, the fact that he had a pretty good ERA in a big time hitters ballpark, and IP. Lincecum does top him in most of those, though he also walked a lot of guys and threw a lot of pitches. Overall, he's probably the better choice. I'm about 98% sure that Webb will win it though.
  6. Actually now that I look at it, I think you're right. I knew he had a great year, but just how great had sort of flown under my radar. That's for who should get it. I still think that Webb will get it.
  7. Watching Cubs/Brewers right now and thought I'd get this out of the way: AL MVP: Should be Carlos Quentin, will be Dustin Pedroia AL Cy Young: Should be Cliff Lee, will be Cliff Lee AL Rookie of the Year: Should be Alexei Ramirez, will be Evan Longoria AL Manager of the Year: Should be Mike Scioscia, will be Joe Maddon NL MVP: Should be Albert Pujols, not sure who it will be NL Cy Young: Should be Brandon Webb, will be Brandon Webb NL Rookie of the Year: Should be Geovany Soto, will be Geovany Soto NL Manager of the Year: Should be Fredi Gonzalez, will be Lou Piniella
  8. Went to the Injuns @ Sox game tonight. The Sox bullpen was disastrous. After an excited bottom of the 8th where they managed to get back into the game, the bullpen just totally gave up in the top of the 9th.
  9. Bobbob, to be fair, you're just as predictable as everyone else here. I think the implication wasn't that Obama was less scripted, just that he sounded less scripted.
  10. Being the spoiler is a whole lot of fun, though if it comes down the Tigers and White Sox playing a make up game on Monday, I may be caught between the fun of being a spoiler, and the wrath of my girlfriend's family.
  11. If I have to pick one, it's probably this: But I also really like this: This: And this:
  12. All the media I'm reading this morning basically seems to say much of the same thing -- that the debate was essentially a tie, but considering the fact that foreign policy was supposed to be McCain's best area, that a tie in this debate is essentially a win for Obama. I guess that makes sense.
  13. I obviously agreed with Obama more tonight, but as far as accomplishing what they needed to goes, I think it was pretty much a tie. Major LOLs at the Fox News poll that had 82% saying McCain won.
  14. I saw that earlier. Laughed loudest at "All of their friends are dying."
  15. My friend Pat and I used to go to Blimpy Burger once a month. We figured that was the maximum amount of Blimpy you could eat without instant death.
  16. No, wasn't consciously referencing those. The military, other than the National Guard, have been called on to act within the United States only in temporary emergency situations. They have never been used on a permanent, open-ended basis before.
  17. I just loved Darryl eating candy bars while he was weighing everyone.
  18. No, regular people are still screwed. You only get out of your obligations if you're wealthy.
