  1. Leyland tried Cabrerra at third a couple of years ago.He didn't have the range to go to his right. Maybe we'll see if poor defensive play can be overcome by excellent offensive play.
  2. Yeah...me too. I'm not sure this is a really good deal for the Cats...Cabrerra really can't play anywhere else in the field anymore (somebody was talking about him playing third...really?) and Fielder is solely a 1bman. When V-Mart gets back, they are going to have nothing but problems unless they end up trading one of their three fat, bad legged 1b/dhers. But for this year...if they can keep Cabrerra happy (and off the sauce) with playing DH full time, the Tigers' lineup will be insane.
  3. Actually, maybe we should embrace it. Make t-shirts or somesuch...
  4. Yeah...I re-read it and I said 'aw hell'. Sleep deprivation...that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  5. Really enjoyable, although it does use the old 'from the ashes of Uncle Tupelo' line. Next album release, we need to come up with a drinking game based on reviewers using that phrase.
  6. Nicely done. The Whole Love has really grown on me. Dawned on me on the teamcoco site was pretty righteous.
  7. That was almost as much fun as the eternal debate over whether of not Balrogs have wings or not... (The obvious solution with any other artist and song would be to ask the author. But Robbie is such a revisionist, I wouldn't believe a word he had to say about the history of the band)
  8. Somewhat fitting that Johnny Ois and Etta James passed within days of each other...
  9. It will be interesting to see which of these album covers people DON'T know.

  11. Bruce has always been a political songwriter. Sometimes it's about the politics of personal relationships and sometimes it's about the politics of nation states and the individual.. Tougher than the Rest is just as political as The Last to Die, it's just the macro vs. the micro.
  12. Daniel and Ryan seem to be singularly focused on making deals that are good for the long term. I'm not sure signing Hamilton and Cruz to LONG TERM, BIG MONEY deals are good for the future health of the club. Cruz needs to work on his conditioning and his leg strength. He's in his early 30's, so I'm not sure I would offer him a long term deal It's interesting that Hamilton's past issues are always cited directly or indirectly when he has missed ZERO games to substance abuse related issues since his return to the game. Hamilton has suffered his injuries because of his style of play...he goe
  13. The douche factor is MUCH more likely to rear its head if it comes later in the show.. The venue becomes an intimate coffee house when OTM opens... The opening sequence of OSM, Poor Places, Art of Almost and I Might can be devastating emotionally...
  14. No...I'll have to check that out. But I've been listening to music a LONG time. Wilco (Jeff) has a real sense of the ebb and flow of a successful rock show. May be the best ever.
  15. The incessant guitar line without release always leads me to issue a 'wow' afterwards. It is an emotional marker at the beginning of shows. When it's followed by a quieter song, it offers a really stark example of the emotional peaks and valleys in the show.
  16. Nels is 56. He's going to have a big boy haircut
  17. How do you see that? Bruce has been about the idealism that this country purported to exemplify when he was growing up. He's not bitching about having to pay too much in taxes and not proposing the someone go get army strong. I see the honest outrage of someone seeing apathy and promises unfufilled, if not outright broken. I've pounded on Bruce for things in the past, but I do think he is honest in his desire for a communal reawakening of what made the promise of America Great.
  18. I hear conflicting things. A couple of days ago, somebody told me (and apparently also Evan Grant) that it would either be Darvish and Moreland or Fielder and Oswalt. If the Rangers do pull off a deal to bring Fielder here, then the epicenter of baseball will officially move to DFW .. (just speaking in my usual hyperbolic mode here...) But if the Rangers decide to sign Fielder, than Hamilton will probably be gone. And even with his history of injuries over the last three years, Hamilton is a player who can change the game with any and all of his Five tools. Fielder can probably hit 50 or m
  19. You may be a wondrous looking, svelt, greek god...but those of us who aren't are usually fully aware of our shortcomings.
