  1. Well...Matt Harrison has generally been pretty good. So...
  2. Wash...overthinking again? That would be a ...no
  3. Shake Russell has been kicking around the Lone Star State for about 35 or so years. Had some songs covered by Ricky Skaggs and Waylon Jennings. He partnered with Dana Cooper for a time. Saw them in College Station at Rudder Hall on election night 1980. One of the best concerts I have seen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrP1S9pqpKg
  4. But because of the stupid arrangement of the record, In a Future Age doesn't close Summerteeth. It should. But it doesn't. Geez...I'm becoming a Lawyer ball kinda guy Geez...I'm have become THAT guy.
  5. Pujols can be pitched to. Holland did fine tonight. You just cannot throw him cheese over the plate. That first tater Pujols hit Saturday was magnificent.
  6. Apparently it was for Hines Ward and the Steelers. (Story from the SuperBowl here this past year) Do clubs in Chicago stay open until 4AM? Closing Time in Dallas in 2AM.
  7. That's the problem with Summerteeth...it has a slapdash ending. What is the point of the inclusion of different version of A Shot in the Arm, much less having it close the record? And the half hearted inclusion of Candyfloss (after the 'silence' track) really cheapens the song. I've always thought Summerteeth would have been better served by leading off with Candyfloss and closing with In a Future Age. Summerteeth was chock full of nicely presented, really good pop songs. There's no reason there couldn't have been at least two, possibly three singles off of it. But then again, with the sta
  8. I got this record as a Record Company Promo in 1976. This record was in heavy rotation for me until the summer of 1978... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-A_vN3Q-2Y
  9. I don't want to hijack this thread...but I really LOVE Gordon Lightfoot. He was my first entry into 'serious' music.
  10. that and the fact that it is so much a keening folk song at heart. I wonder if it was the guitar riff that people really remember. Anyway, Gordon Lightfoot is a true gem, the very fact that he was able to fully crossover as a folk act really speaks to the strength of his songcraft and wonderful voice.
  11. This one brings back a lot of memories c. 1974 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8rR7E6NfY4
  12. Gordon Lightfoot...72 years old and STILL on the road. He blew throught the DFW area a couple of years ago. I had some of his folkie stuff from the 60's (The Canadian Railroad trilogy is magnificent). He had a really odd revival in the mid-70's with some pretty significant top 40 success: Sundown (a really menacing song of longing and jealousy) was written about Kathy Smith (the chick who was heavily involoved with John Belushi's overdose death); Carefree Highway; Rainy Day People; and the oddest top 40 single of ALL TIME The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
  13. Problem is, they are still going to play most of their home games in the daytime. (I'm not proclaiming to be an expert on that matter. A former major leaguer lectured me on the problems of having one's schedule disrupted by playing all those day games in Wrigley.)
  14. Haven't seen this review before (or even seen the website), but this guy seems to have it right http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/29799/Wilco-Being-There/
  15. This is a site worth checking out http://murphtalks.blogspot.com/2011/05/murph-listens-to-what.html http://murphtalks.bl...-new-songs.html
  16. It has had a bit of everything that is fun about baseball. (If Ogando doesn't make those two bad pitches...) If the Ranger's bats heat up, it might be a nice weekend in Arlington.
  17. At Least That's What You Said seems to say so much lyrically and musically about what is to follow that it cements its position as #1, closel followed by Misunderstood and Art of Almost. ALTWYS seems to be a counterpoint, companion piece and/or an answer to She's a Jar. It also tells you everything you need to know about that incarnation of the band in a musical sense. It's a freaking masterpiece (IMO).
  18. When I first read this post, I didn't have on my glasses...so I read this as "Another chance to get kicked out of a show". Makes a better story my way.
  19. It's really obvious that Hamilton's groin strain is affecting him at the plate. Every time he swings and misses, he's doing the awkward grabbing of his strained groin and grimmacing Defensively, he's not missing a beat. But Hamilton and YOung are really struggling in the middle of the lineup.
  20. Well...Jules isn't dead (as far as I know), so he probably couldn't be Jerry Orbach. That and Jerry Orbach was a broadway song and dance man at heart.
  21. Kind of cruel...but funny. The kid has a real deer in the headlights moment there. Watching him struggling to remember his talking points is...uncomfortable.
