  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc93VQ87hNk There is something oddly compelling about this stuff
  2. No, no I haven't. The indy record store I frequent didn't have it on RSD. I am not a huge cover of the cover song anyway.
  3. I haven't read anybody saying anything about this one on this board, but this is a really, really, really good record. There are textures in these songs that I really haven't heard in any Foo songs heretofore.
  4. Reading this, it would see like Tommy Mottola was hellbent on derailing Hall's prog career. But consider that before Darryl Hall, the term blue eyed soul was probably spoken with irony. Hall had/has a really unique vocal style and, ultimately, Mottola was a backer and fervent supporter of Hall and Oates as a urban soul group. Ultimately, he was correct as they were immensely successful and for a 5 to 6 year span, they were one of the biggest acts in music.
  5. Hall and Oates could have gone a completely different way. Check out Produced by Todd Rundgren and backed by Utopia. There has always been a prog rock texture in the background for these guys.

  7. Fatman and Bockscar...Here comes your man indeed Outside there's a box car waiting Outside the family store Out by the fire breathing Outside we wait 'til face turns blue I know the nervous walking I know the dirty beard hangs Out by the box car waiting Take me away to nowhere plains There is a wait so long (So long, so long) You never wait so long Here comes your man Here comes your man Here comes your man! Big shake on the box car moving Big shake to the land that's falling down Is a wind makes a palm stop blowing A big, big stone fall and break my crown There is a wai
  8. They were both looking to the same source material
  9. There's aggressive...then there's stupid...then there's batshit fucking stupid. The first inning. Nobody out. The MVP of the league (who has a history of throwing his body around) on third. A pop fly...not a fly ball to center field. A fucking pop fly. Who cares if the pitcher isn't covering home? The Ranger offense really hasn't broken loose yet. The pitching has been unfathomably good. April and I'm already in mid season form with angst.
  10. What a provocative thread. I usually connect to a song more around the musical componant. Although I have been fanatical about music for 45 years, I can't say that I often connect to songs in such a fashion that it breaks my heart per se. However, that is not to say that I am untouched by what I listen too. I'm sure some of these songs will seem odd to this board; but that's ok. We all come from different places and have traveled different roads to get where we are now. THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER --- I'm not being ironic here. This song is so ubiquitous in our society that the actual lyric
  11. Yep...he did make a splash, didn't he. and word to Owl, who made the most prescient and insightful post in the whole 40+ page debacle
  12. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I had forgotten how fun Neon was when he first showed up. I think Wilco was ahead of the curve here. Radio doesn't play "our" kind of music anymore. There are limited outlets for a band of the type that used to be called Indie to have their music reach a broad audience. TV Commercials and the Late Night shows. (I have found a lot of new music from watching Letterman and Ferguson plus freaking commercials). There is a new model for bands these days. Major lables are buggy whip factories. Touring is good, but it is a bit like preaching to the choir. The
  13. And don't mistake or misinterpret my comments. I have nothing against the Red Sox or the Yankees other than they suck all the oxygen out of anybody who is not a fan. You know...there is good baseball played in other places than the Bronx (notice I didn't say New York) and Boston.
  14. Dreamed of Dice-K spending the Red Sox's money.
  15. Well, one good thing about ESPN having their lips firmly afixed to the RED SOX ass. After about half an hour I was able to stop watching tonight's game and get on with my life.
  16. I must say that I am getting pretty fucking sick and tired of the Yankees and Red Sox and it is only April 11. I guess every time they play this year they will be broadcast nationally on ESPN, Fox or the MLB network. Oh...and by the way, The Texas Rangers? The Rangers who knocked the Yankees out of the playoffs last year and swept the Red Sox to start this one? 9-1. (By the way...just saw the youtube video of Sammy Hagar playing the national anthem at The Giants' opening day. OMG. That aside, I haven't been a fan of National League Ball since 1980. But the NL West looks to be interesing
  17. The numbers from Mississippians of color would be interesting also.
  18. Problem with this International Harvester Old ways stuff was Neil was daytripping. At times it seemed almost like he was parodying Country Music. Almost like he was baiting people.
  19. It was at this point I was trying to figure out whether Neil had lost his mind or whether he was trying to make David Geffen's head explode.
  20. He asks every drummer that...Dave really likes him some drums. It certainly was a mess. He threw in some harmonics to make it sound like still had his 70's chops.
  21. It was certainly esoteric, but if one got the joke, it was High-Larry-Us.
