  1. You ever read the review of this show in the Tapers Compendium? The author attempts to link the songs into some sort of life/death/rebirth cycle. Its insane but a fun read nonetheless.
  2. ""In true Deadhead spirit, the film preserves an event that seem awfully remote in today's world of cable TV, Internet ticketing, and heavily policed gatherings. Early in the movie, an eager crew can be seen building a simple wooden stage. No cops, no security force trolling the grounds. No bags being searched, no one ejected for cigarette smoking. What one witnesses as the movie gets underway is 30,000 folks raving about in a big, sunny meadow while the local band plays on a hastily erected platform. Two flinty piles of amplifiers broadcast loud rock 'n roll out to the countryside. Amidst suc
  3. The sight of that naked guy on the pole behind the stage always cracks me up.
  4. Someone on this thread mentioned Willie Nelson's "Pretty Paper".....its an album that he put out in 1979 and covers all the x-mas classics........as someone who cant stand x-mas music in general and especially the 'classics'.....this album is good, very good....not sure if its still in circulation (I bought the vinyl version for a quarter years ago) but if it is, get it!
  5. "Ice Fishing Secrets" by Al Linder and Dave Genz......in anticipation of the kick off of the season....which for me starts Sunday morning....woo-hoo!!
  6. I havent seen this yet, I hope to find the time to do so soon. I'd like to see Blood Meridian made into a film. It'd take a great director to do so though...Coppala could do it, maybe Peckinpah (not sure if he's still alive though).
  7. Carols is a great place, used to take my wife dancing there years ago. Not sure if Sidewinder is still playing there, hopefully so. You could name about ANY country tune and they'd play it. No reason to be leery......the place has real people in there, not just yups and hipsters. One of the bartenders has the most amazing Kentucky mudflap...that, coupled with his polyester truckers hat....quite a sight. Did I hear Lake View Lounge closed?!? Damn, that hurts....hurts bad.
  8. Wow, what a fun idea!! I wonder......will JT ask any or all of the former members to take part? That'd be interesting......
  9. Did anyone mention "Black Book" yet? Watched it last nite with my wife........a Dutch film about a Jewish girl in hiding in Holland during WW2. Well done. An extra bonus is Carlice Van Houtens rather attractive chest.
  10. No kidding......the entire movie is boring.......outside of the kills.
  11. Ok, go ahead..........but dont say I didnt warn you! ;-) I ended up fastforwarding thru the endless blather to the kill scenes, which are indeed inventive.
  12. Funny you mention that.........back in 94, I considered doing the exact same thing...........
  13. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT waste a moment of your time watching "Death Proof". Trust me on this. He started out strong with RD, its been downhill since........I've been accused of being a QT hater but I'm actually just disappointed in him. He's gotta stop jacking off (read: paying homage to genres and films he worships) and start doing something worthy.
  14. Two shows that are superb are 11/2/02 and 9/4/03.......both are soundboards, I believe.
  15. Truth be told........the addition of Nels has pushed me back into the most casual of fans category. The glory years of the post-Bennet, pre-Nels era is still what gets me hot and bothered. IMHO, what Jeff and the boys did with the use of space and tension during those years along with Jeffs raggedy guitar was just exactly perfect. Now its all washed over by Nels.............
  16. Fingers crossed this respite continues.......
  17. A-man......do not deny yourself the glory that is 1977. Check out 5/4/77 and of course the show that never really occured (!CIA mindcontrol experiment!), 5/8/77. ALL of May is dynamite. The June 77 Winterland shows are smoking too.
  18. Never have I used shaving cream. I just use one of those Bic disposables and go to town! (full disclosure-I'm pretty sure it'd take me 10 years to grow a full ZZ Top-like beard)
  19. heh........I believe it was you who burned about 8 shows for me off that site a year or two ago. Thanks again, brutha!!
  20. I just CAN NOT resist that blend of punk/country/psychedelic/absurdist music the Pups put together. Outside of Garcia and the boys in their prime, the MPs are the only band that cause a smile to stretch ear to ear across my face.
  21. Indeed. I left a tent and more than a few brain cells up there after that run of shows. Imagine if it didnt rain!!!
  22. Pavement at the Lounge Ax on their Slanted/Enchanted tour. They still had the original drummer, the scary guy.
  23. Hey now everybody! I know its been a long time sinced I rapped at ya but I've been real busy (actually my work blocked access to this site until recently). A real quick headzup......I caught the Meat Puppets at the Double Door last Thursday nite. I wasnt sure what to expect given that their new album is kinda mediocre and the last time I saw them in 94 at the Vic they werent on top of their game (IIRC, they even had a 2nd guitarist on stage). Anyhow, my fears were laid to rest shortly after they came on stage. Curt and Chris are back and taking no prisoners! The show I saw on the 8th
