  1. yes! i am 35 and just laugh at those folks. this article is interesting, but a bit pretentious and overstating. (no time now to back that up) however, genY is gonna be all this and more. nothing new under the sun. all the bygone scenes were/are myths anyway. it still comes down to putting clothes on, drinking, smoking, and deciding who's in and who's out. religion has been doing it for centuries. c
  2. hell yes, nothing wrong with it at all. springsteen is the king of this.
  3. this band is so linked with goofy college and high school experiences that it's hard for me to listen. however, living in atlanta, i would love to bump into ed vedder at a book store if they happen to be in town recording with obrien. the studio is literally down the street from me in a very unassuming house. i have been known to troll around a bit when i hear that bruce supposed to be recording:)
  4. tried, not working. sounds too much like 90s neoska without horns. you can tell they right songs with phrases specifically crafted to be screamed out by the drunken audience.
  5. he was in trans band. berlin is not really a bad video though. and, boy do i love neils biography 'SHARKEY'...great read
  6. No actually, he's a good guitar player, but just too goofy.
  7. good point. isn't that the way things are these days. artists are corporations with every kind of shit to sell. ironically, most of these corps are aging people that can't tour forever and are way past their prime. but each year, they make more and more money.
  8. yeah, red, starless, and larks are the most listenable and rockin' . the 80s stuff has some good songs, but just too slick. then he decided to become just some other neoprog dude with that bombastic production with the most recent releases. love this thread. making me check out some folks i haven't before. i also want to add bob weir. he's no lead player, but he is the most inventive rhythm guitar player ever. i can listen to the dead and just focus on him if i want and be totally enthralled. i would say my style of rhythm/lead is mostly influenced by jerry and bob. (with many dash
  9. i really like JJ Cale too. even though he's kind of a one trick pony.
  10. love fripp...crimson is tough to take thought. for you guitar players out there, if you tune to his guitar craft tuning, everything you play will sound like a crimson song. pretty fun for about 10 minutes.
  11. that's what i figured. i am sure we would've heard more from patterson if he had actually played with neil.
  12. well, i've played them a few times today. not turned off yet. i just keep focusing on the stuff i like, the riffage!
  13. i love tom verlaine too, but his voice is just too much. near the end, garcia sounded almost acoustic (no pun intended). his tone from the late 80s to the end was the best in my opinion. he just plays scales and it is amazing. i also loved the midi...flute on birdsong was so great. OMG yes!! i also love his octave pedal in the middle of some Phat Mike's jam!
  14. great topic- Garcia-his clean, delayed, reverbed tone on songs like Row Jimmy and Sugaree Stephen Stills-his early electric tone was so deep and sweet. his acoustic tone is with out comparison Pat Metheny-his synth guitar sound kills me Frisell-anything by him is classic frisellian tone! Gilmour-when he rips into the solo on Dogs Jay Farrar-when he played lead in UT it just rocked. don't know why he has another player in son volt now. i could go on.
  15. i downloaded two songs...so far so good...i'm gonna take it slow.
  16. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/down...d-sister-stream this is totally badasssss! if the album is as good as this song, it will be the best work neil has done since Ragged Glory!
  17. i really wish i could get into these dudes. i love the guitars and song structure but i hate the rap vocals and that cheeze ball keyboard player! help! craig
  18. good points. it's funny how i graduated from college in 96 and bang, phish changed. we saw some many shows from 91-96. it was quite a run and at times overwhelming. the band was so good and there were so many surprises! with in two years i was married, had a graduate degree, and had only seen one phish show in that time. the end of an era. here's to a new era of creativity for the band, or at least some fun! remember the chess game. now that shit was FUN!
  19. ironically, neil has dropped all the new tunes except one in his recent setlists in australia. he knows their shit. what i'm wondering is if fork is in the vein of living with war. just a toss off. or is it a legit album. he's really been resting pissing in the wind since are you passionate. it's like he's trying to prove to himself that he can still write relevant music and that the archives are his end. that being said, if the new tunes are recorded in a nice warm way like greendale with dry vocals etc., this may not be a bad listen.
  20. http://www.nme.com/news/neil-young/42095 this is stating that neil is gonna put out a new album called Fork in the Road before the archives. guess toast is no the back burner too. oh well. i remember the website in 2005 saying, "Prairie Wind coming, archives to follow."
  21. didn't outlaw pete get together with the queen of the supermarket at some point. i think i remember that.
  22. All i have to say is... "i'm outlaw pete and you better not mess with me!" that song's a big uh,oh!
  23. not according to the article. new studio stuff would be cool though.
  24. great movie. there's usually one good compelling movie a year for me and this was it. the bonus was the bruce song at the end.
