  1. it is forced to some extent, but it's interesting to see people compete and make shit up in the moment. i've taken some of their challenges for the hell of it. wrote a pretty nice song about LA...who hasn't:) btw-how do you write? what is you process? maybe we should start a new thread about this. what i love about the show is people's total focus on music and songwriting. i love that shit and it's good to know i'm not the only dork out there:)
  2. RA is working with ethan? cool. i don't necessarily like the artists he's producing. i just like the sound. as far as BoH goes, it's so ironic that they are tight and ben gets pissy about sound. Carissa's Weird was basically unlistenable.
  3. unfettered mind is buddhist podcast. are you buddhist? just curious.
  4. just heard about it and i'm catching up on it. it's a reality show about songwriting. of course it has all the trappings of a reality show, but it's so cool to watch these folks write songs. as a songwriter i'm really digging it. one of the challenges was to write a dance track and i did it too. never thought i'd do that!

  6. i found a so called outtakes collection from so many roads. wave studio is on there. that eternity is great on smr. love jerry's tone on that one.
  7. i can see that. ben birdwell is enjoying being a rockstar. eddie vedder could care less. love that dude!
  8. vocals are a bit choppy to me, but damn those first two albums were produced so well. i love ethan john's production. i can think of several bands that would do well if they hired him. he's what rick ruben is trying to be. i saw band of horses with jayhawks in may. there were very tight. i find their music a bit samey.
  9. yeah, jim is a character and i was just listening to him has such. however, when he started dissing clarence after he died...well... that's enough. it's interesting, he's a professional jerk. greg kot is not far behind given his wilco book. these guys always have to says something to get a rise though. here i am rising:)
  10. most people would do that. most people are nice and kind. when they don't see the faces of those they affect with their decisions, people follow fear.
  11. yeah, i forgot about that. it's missing a few tunes though. there was a studio outtake boot out there at one point.
  12. i assume the unreleased album would have been called 'so many roads'. i really wish they had gotten some good studio takes and put the album out. would've been so cool. possible tracks: corrina easy answers eternity lazy river road so many roads days between samba in the rain way to go home wave to the wind if the shoe fits childhood's end what am i missing? anyone want to take a crack at possible track order. i assume the album would end with so many roads. i have no idea what the opener would be...Lberty?
  13. yeah, to me so many roads was the last great garcia/hunter tune. great lyrics and song. i remember really loving the bob/jerry harmonies on the verses. i really wish there was a good version.
  14. i'm taking break from sound opinions. there's only so much jim derogotis one can take. who charted? is a new podcast i'm really digging. comedian howard kremer and guests make fun of music and movie charts. nice mellow vibe and compelling.
  15. did anyone like the 'new' tunes near the end? i pretty much liked them all except samba in the rain. they played the shit out of those songs. early on i loved eternity>liberty first set closer. way to go home should have been in the first set. that would have killed as a closer after a bird song or let it grow. i remember phil's tunes in that era being fun. hell, it was nice phil was actually writing and singing something other than Box. i remember there were all these rumors that they were sound checking cosmic charlie and weather report. damn, it was so fun keeping up with setl
  16. so true. we def pride ourselves in knowing every word and every song. it's just so weird to me that touch was being played in 82 and didn't come out until 87. had the boys recorded an album in 82 or 83 it would have been a much different album that what we got. hell, an album in 85 would have sounded so 80s. that would not have been good reverbing the shit out of mickey and billy:) i think those In the Dark tunes were played the longest before being recorded/released. good thing for Throwin'. that need some work. yeah, college was great for getting tapes! when i think of RFK
  17. good idea, but my eyes just glaze over when i see busy websites like those. too much to look at. i miss web 1.0. i'm thinking about not even buying a ticket for atlanta wilco shows and just showing up to buy a cheap ticket from scalpers. but it might be a hot show though, which makes cheap tix difficult.
  18. http://www.archive.org/details/MonteBarrygd73-06-09.AUD.fob.barry.flac 6/9/73-RFK just stumbled upon this. just has a great mellow vibe with some good pics from taper. so cool. my mom was way pregnant with me at the time. time is weird. checking out the 82 show now :-) btw-should i go to furthur this summer?
  19. yeah, it's fun to listen to a bunch of random stuff that i would never buy....huh, sounds like torrenting :-)
  20. right. aside from not having everything, the partial album deal sucks. i find i'm most satisfied if i listen to the band i'm thinking of rather than search. searching can be a nightmare of choice on these streaming sites. i'm happy with my wilco, jay farrar and neil young cds:)
  21. thanks for the heads up. yes, it's high time either farrar or tweedy are on fresh air.
  22. good point. spotify search results are pretty messy too. they need artist pages with albums in order. never tried RDIO. spotify still suffers from the big issue in digital music. it doesn't have it all...no zep, no beatles. the record companies know what's gonna keep making money.
  23. it is fun, but i'm probably gonna hop out after this month. it's the same issue i have had with digital music since the onset. i don't like it. i much prefer to focus on a few artists and their real world content (cds, merch.) rather than have too much stuff to listen to. i will say that spotify is almost there when it comes to managing digital music.
