  1. i've never done a streaming service, so i jumped in on this one. i'm having fun. almost too much music. i'll probably cancel in a few months and get back to cds though. i always do...after torrents, itunes etc.
  2. i have a hard time with 82-88. hearing garcia just lose his voice is rough. i need to check out some again. there's all those early versions of throwin' stones, the new lyrics on bt wind and of course, BOB STAR :0
  3. yeah, they're one of those bands that are almost too good.
  4. that story is hilarious! btw-yes was pretty much a train wreck last night. quite uninspired. first two songs were good. styx was a classic rock show! tommy shaw has lost nothing. he's the real deal. pss-jff, you going to wilco in atlanta in sept? we should shake hands. c
  5. i'm a fan of Drama so seeing the band with Downes is a plus and draw for me. styx without Deyoung is a plus for me. he's such a cheese ball. don't think the show will be a train wreck. it'll def be solid, but not revolutionary. these bands just need to find ways to keep going. why not? some folks dig it, some folks don't. the question is, what the hell will we do in the summer when all the boomer bands are gone? well, i guess we'll see the boomer bands because having original members really doesn't seem to matter now...see Skynyrd :>{} i'm surprised at the love for the ABWH
  6. i've listened to the new album a few times. there are about 3 good songs on there that rival anything the band has done in the last 20 years. that being said, it's sounds exactly like you'd think. way over-produced. sounds like all the other 'new prog' that's been produced over the years. i'm going to see them tomorrow night in atlanta. i got a cheap ticket. jon put out another album with some random musicians last year called Survival. what i've heard is pretty good. c
  7. hadn't heard Mount Moriah. great stuff! thanks.
  8. i think i'm gonna wait till i have the disc in my hand. i love the cover art and the song titles. i'm pretty sure this is gonna be awesome.
  9. oh yeah, great great tune. that and grey riders are just awesome.
  10. it's a very interesting album. using those cheese-ball early 90s keyboard sounds actually works. as far as the live show, singing falsetto like that all the time is impossible....except for maybe the Bee Gees:)
  11. right. maybe a double album of solo acoustic select cuts from the 80s. that would be amazing!
  12. you're not weird. neil has put out some great stuff these last 10 years. The Painter is a gem. my previous posts were being a bit reactionary. i just need to enjoy what i get from him. he does his own thing which is a blessing and a curse:) btw-from a previous post, i'd love neil to take all of the landing on water tunes and do them solo acoustic. that would be so good.
  13. Fuzz Bass! new song is great. kind of like summerteeth era meets bull black nova.
  14. saw that too. very cool. maybe they'll help jackson browne find his muse again. his last album was atrocious.
  15. Great points. I'd say most artists from that era went past their prime. Would've been better if Neil ended with live rust....then came back with ragged glory. Fork in the road was embarrassing.
  16. you are so right. waits production has been timeless through out his career. i do like the recent albums.
  17. that's one of my eternal questions. production values went from warm to shit by 1984. even the production on trans was so good. old ways and a treasure would have been masterful if neil had played them like neil and not like conway twitty. i have two theories about this. one is that artists from the 70s were just lucky they came up in a decade that had excellent production values. it was an accident. i'm amazed at how artists never think about production and how their albums sound. so, if neil young came of age in '85 for example, he would have that shitty 80s production because that's
  18. a 76 crazy horse show has been discussed. probably a trans band tour or a solo trans tour set. i wish dreamin' man had more than just harvest moon live. i assume there will be more volumes after 12: 99 solo, 2001 crazy horse? to tell you the truth, i'm kind of worn out with neil. he's been pumping out a lot of mediocre stuff since Silver and Gold. 2-3 releases a year! he's one of my favorites, but i think i need a break. i really wish these archive releases had everything...like this last one should have an example of all the tunes played on this tour and just be a document of that no
  19. it's just got that slick country sound that i hope wouldn't be as obvious as it is on Old Ways. I like about half of it. Flying on the Ground is great. too much fiddle too.
  20. been listening to the new album, a treasure. i was hoping it would blow me away. unfortunately, it's really corny. soul of a woman is probably one of the worst neil young tunes ever. amber jean and grey riders are good, but the rest is so samey. too bad.
  21. i just wonder how long these guys can keep it up. i guess when your live has been the road, that's what you'll do till the end...dylan, willie...
  22. didn't know bruce played piano live on this one. very cool. sad news. rest in peace. didn't know bruce played piano live on this one. very cool. sad news. rest in peace.
  23. it was just like the early 70s man! seriously, i think the board has taken another plunge this year. personally, i've just lost interest in the internet. i'll check my favorite band's official pages for info, email and that's it. the rest is just garbage and i really don't care any more. i'll be happy to see a release date and track list for the new album, but that's all i need to know.
  24. '27 flavors of sadness...'-Welch love that stuff. can't wait for this. the extensive tour is cool too. i can't help but wonder about those '2-3 records worth of material' she and dave wrote over the last several years. they wrote a new record! art is funny that way though. as a songwriter myself, it's like pulling teeth for me to actually finish anything. recently, my musical partner and i have just been trying to write songs fast when they come. 10-20 minutes from idea to quick demo on mac. seems to have worked once so far. thanks for the article:)
