  1. i don't have any tattoos and I don't like the Rolling Stones or pretty much anything that's come out since 1982 except some Wilco, Neil Young and Jay Farrar.
  2. they are definitely trying to play music beyond their years. they're the most listenable new band of the last 10 years for me, but i'm not blown away.
  3. not feeling this season. do like mos def though.
  4. very satisfying. would have been a good series end.
  5. that's funny...hadn't figured out he's gone:) i like to wonder about the studio album that would have been if Europe hadn't come out. Jack Straw, BE Women, Ramble...would've been a classic. that being said, E'72 basically was a studio album. this is such a weird time for the band. donna and keith were on this tour, i think. if not, donna overdubbed. pig died shortly after this tour and the band played as a four piece for at least a few shows, right? the other amazing thing about this period is that less than a year and a half before, the band was playing dark star, cryptical every nigh
  6. i started a thread here after nels joined the band called 'is nels cline essential?' needless to say i was lambasted. i like nels pedal steel and his little trey anastasio licks. the rest i could do without. he's not a great guitar player. anyone can hook up 50 pedals and run a steel pole up and down the neck and make noise. every other tune live ends in a wall of nels distortion. i think it's cheap playing and cliche. i'd much rather hear jeff play lead with nice worked out solos a la ALTWYS. the band needs a guitarist who can support jeff's songs at least. at best, it would be a gu
  7. right. you couldn't get through college in the early 90s with out hearing space wrangler. i never was into them. however, the drummer in my band was playing their most recent cd after an outdoor show we did and it just nailed me. can't get enough of it. i'm a jimmy herring fan too...so that doesn't hurt.
  8. i liked SBS and W(TA) to some extent. Haven't pick up TWL. Don't know why, just not interested. Saw them in Atlanta last week. It was okay, but ultimately not worth the time and money. I would have much rather read to my kids and put them to bed. Bull Black Nova was good, as was Side With the Seeds. I'm comparing this to seeing Neil Young last year. I was in a trance the entire time watching him and just hung on every damn note. I would be interested if Jeff did something different. I've listened to Autumn Defense more in the last year than Wilco. I think it just happens, we fall in
  9. i'm in the ATL too. really wish i had seen their in-store at criminal when the last one came out. i need to check this one out. have tried, but haven't been able to get into them. some former students of mine who are now in college are really into them.
  10. not too loud? i want to get those as well.
  11. Loved him opening up for Neil Young last year. Very sad.
  12. the little films make the music so great.
  13. he's definitely the secret weapon in the band. his pronto stuff is great too. hope he does more of that. he's all about texture which makes him a great fit with jeff, glenn and everyone else.
  14. how do you know jeff? it was fun hearing that dedication as i've seen you on VC. i felt cool knowing who you were:)
  15. you hit the nail on the head. to me, wilco is not a rock band. they area band that plays good songs. my preference would be a sit down show with warm lighting and no avant-garde guitar. i think it cheapens the songs to a high degree. not trying to ruffle feathers, it's just what i took away from the show last night.
  16. i came from decatur and it was not a hassle at all. right off the highway and parking was so easy. of course, this was a very adult show and people were mature for the most part.
  17. cool. that record is very much akin to a wilco record. great melodies, memorable solos and a bit of experimentation. and of course, the prog masterpiece guyote!
  18. IATTBYH Handshake Drugs highlights for me were bull black nova and side with seeds. wanted to hear one wing. to tell you the truth, i found myself just wishing they'd play songs with out the light show and the distortion crescendos on half the songs. they are definitely moving into arena rock territory.
  19. early phish is very much in the vein of progressive rock. however, they add a dash of humor to their music and the lyrics can seem goofy at first. after a while you realize it's the real deal and not a shtick at all. Lawn Boy is their best early album. After that, Rift is amazing with some epics. Billy Breathes is more song oriented, but great. Story of the Ghost is their best album as far as I'm concerned. it has everything; songs, jams and epics. i'll be curious what you think WildFrank. these guys could easily pull off Lamb. there were rumors years back that they would cover the a
  20. i really wonder what's gonna happen. my hunch is that gus is not gonna make it to next season. he is a psychopath. the formula has always been...everything is breaking bad, but then it works out (usually in a dark way).
