  1. This is sad news. What a beautiful musician. Oh, to be home again.
  2. Willy DeVille singing a John Hiatt song then a Warren Zevon song to Jack Nitzsche in a hotel room. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfDKbQnqcA0
  3. Actually, for those of us who will eventually be accruing the Europe 72 shows disc by disc, do you have any recommendations on where to start? Or should I just collect chronologically?
  4. Watched again yesterday. I forgot just how damn good everyone is in this film.
  5. 8 can sometimes be easier if you ignore 7. But I am personally enjoying 13 and 14 right now on holidays.
  6. Thanks. Funny, your description is exactly how I thought it might be.
  7. What's this like? I'm keen to hear it.
  8. Some time ago now a friend gave me a book on aphorisms: We Are What We Think by James Geary and I've enjoyed returning to it sporadically over the years. The difference between a rut and a grave is the depth. and Doubt not. You gather friends around you as a hair clasp gathers the hair.
  9. Much the same response I used to get on rec.music.dylan back in the day. Yeah, I do. I think it's a fun album. I found myself listening to it a lot some years ago during a time in my life where many things were happening that I remember now with fondness. One of Dylan's worst? Sure. Underrated? You betcha. I like your choice of Street Legal. Now there's an album that came to me during a rather turbulent and shitty time in my life. Great record, though.
  10. Mark Olson's post-Jayhawks group with Victoria Williams.
  11. Mr Ellroy is very intense and I love the imagined conversations and scenarios as well. As far as favourite books go, I loved the LA Quartet: The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, L.A. Confidential and White Jazz. White Jazz is sublime. Just finished this: Slow to start and I was wondering when things were gonna happen. I ended up quite liking it. Have now started and am looking forward to:
  12. 1. Pigpen's organ playing 2. Dylan's "Self Portrait" 3. Original Harmony Ridge Creekdippers
  13. I saw him about 3 weeks ago in Sydney. It was one of the most beautiful concerts I think I've attended. Two guitars & one drumkit for instrumentation + 3 voices. The sound was perfect and he was in such fine voice. Sublime show. Still on a high.
  14. Dirty Three @ Sydney Opera House
  15. Ha! Yes, nice line. I definitely need to hear these shows.
